ORIGINAL: stuman They really dont provide coffee to you guys ? You know how cheap a perk ( pun intended ) that is ? Geez Yes.....and now that i'm at home i can tell you who the cheap-o's are...."ATT MOBILITY" (Coffee was probably the last perk to go......the only one left now is TP provided for the bathrooms.....we have a pool going on when that'll go and we have to start bringing in our own) The part that really pisses off the workforce is that we get announcements like the above, for reasons of cost and then days later we get yet another quarterly report card email announcing mounds of financial success in meeting the goals and in one case, 'record profits' Managers litterally cringe when leadership pulls that. and with all that success.....they can't even provide cheap ass coffee that makes Starbucks seem like some of JWE's Javarian brew. Guess the CEO needed another corporate Jet or something. I keep dreaming of the day when i finally get a bite on the job market and can just quit.....with 2 minutes notice. and don't get me started on the big I.T. fiasco recently. I own my own business. it's only 22 employees, but it is a good office. I have worked for multinational firms ( one of the " Big Six " accounting firms ) have started from scratch, etc. And I realize that there is a constant balancing act between being bottom line oriented, and maintaining a motivated workforce. But I am here to tell you that it doesn't really take all of that much ( free coffee, free soft drinks maybe, lunch/dinner brought in, sensible leave policies and so forth ) to keep people happy. And a happy group of folks is far more productive imo than an unhappy one. It simply requires work ( somtimes a lot granted ) by upper management to implement. ok, enough of my ranting. Stuman, You sound like a pretty cool boss. What would your policy be on playing AE on company time? If you permit this, just what line of business are you in? Are there internships available? Thank you. We are a 22 person CPA firm, (making one's living billing by the hour has it's own challenges ) and I am very fortunate that we have a great group of folks. So many management teams seem to forget what it is like to be a non-owner or non senior management member. And I have been invovved in enough situations like Nik mentioned where the rank and file are asked to make sacrifices ( which most people are willing to do when the reasons are explained ) but later when conditons improve are not allowed to share, even a bit, in the increased pie. I know this is a generalization, and pat answers are worth nothing. But I think a lot of business organizations are not well run. But I guess in a way that is a good thing for guys like me Anyway we run a very tight ship as far as our allowed internet usage policy. Mainly for security purposes, but also because we are always busy, I lead by example. I never use my PC at work for anything other than work. But I also live only 7 minutes away
