Well it's good to have something to put your mind to right now, so it's probably a good thing to weed it out. Save the good ones and the ones you can't get anymore though.

Been there :-/

I was dumped by an ex-GFU some 20+ years time ago when she had met some guy at her workplace. The sleazy details is that the guy she had met was already married & was known to have had plenty of mistresses the last years. This didn't bother my ex-GFU however, as he had promised he would get a divorce for her sake. Two years after we had split up, my ex-GFU came home to her home finding this manly paragon of virtue doing her (up to then) best friend in her own bed.

Funny thing, the (female) friend of the ex-GFU who told me that last bit, in the next sentence told me the split-up was my fault as I hadn't "appreciated her enough" ...

Women ...

Don't honestly know how far it's gone (if anywhere) yet. The whole thing tumbled when, according to her, she was pulled aside by two co-workers and told that the feed manager was MADLY in love with her. xGFU claimed no knowledge but i wasn't suprised......"she" had been talking about him ever since he started working there. I sort of saw turbelence in that direction but never suspected it would spiral out of control so fast. It was as if her being told he was interested in her flipped that switch. three days later....and i had to force out of her what was bothering her.....and it was me apparantly.

Now....yes, its all my fault for not, in her words, being more emotionally involved.

Hoo boy...that old euphemism for "not worshipping the ground she walks on". Not that women should not be appreciated, of course, but that oftentimes seems to belie a rather overblown view of her self-worth.

Agreed.

Very true. I wiped out my hometown library's stash of WWII books pretty early in life.

They have a different concept of this means as well. This is an area I have real troubles in. Most of us INTJ personality types are not real forthcoming with our emotions. This can really bug the hell out of women. They do not understand that trait.

i will try to preserve my air research books....(Shores, Bergstrom etc) but pretty much the rest will have to go as will all desktops. Some of my references i've had since childhood but admitedly, don't really touch them anymore....including a very worn copy of German Encyclopedia of WWII tanks. (maybe i'll find space for that one) My main machine failed completely anyway....the dreaded ASUS "CPU INIT" bug of which they have no fix for. I've already spent hours trying to resolve it, including resetting/clearing the BIOS complete with pulling out the battery. It "almost" worked, but then the video konked out. I'll probably strip down both my P4 and the core2 machine to parts and store them with my tool kits....to someday maybe rebuild....like the rest of my life. cases can be replaced as can the MoBo for my core2 machine.

Hopefully i can get away with (ironically) one of the macBooks and my essential files and programs.

Don't you dare get rid of your library.

I sent you a pm with all my contact info. I have a large home with lots of storage space, and some empty shelves on the bookcases after my own triage. I would be pleased to take care of your library (and your 'puters) until such time (whenever the heck that is, and wherever the heck you are) you are ready for their return. Please be assured I will treat them in the manner they deserve. I say this openly only because if you accept, everyone will know where those things are, in case I get run over by the over-eager Bass fisherman next door.

Ciao. John

I believe that Steve Martin summed it up well.

"I believe in the sanctity of the family. Mom, dad, and uncle Todd, who waves his p****. I believe that you should put a woman on a pedestal-just high enough that you can look up her skirt."

You're right. Just look at News on french TV : we are always screewing things....but pretend not; or it was not our fault !!
Now, just look at me : i screw everything, and i pretend it, so no one can blame me for hidding...
Now, look at the past : how many time a french was involved in something good ?

Platon, Socrate, Aristote : not french
Hyppocrate : not french
Copernic, Kepller, Galilee, Newton : not french
Darwin : not french
Bill Gates ....oh wait, this one is not an example.
Sun Tzu, Confucius, Jesus, Mahomet, Boudha, (as builders of new thinking) : not french.
Cesar, Hannibal, Patton, Gengis Khan, Knut I, Belisaire : not french.
Napoleon : not french.....corsican !

OK, this post was intended to be funny.
But in fact i don't even manage to make myself smile. Sorry buddys, just not in the mood right now.
I hope i offended no one.

So you prefer old ones over new ones? I'm just saying.....

Some free advice: think about it for a bit. This is a big change and it isn't good to make decisions in emotional stress. Let the waters subside a bit then decide where you want to go.

And we would be glad to help you settle in here in NC. Considering your training and certs, I believe you would find a good job pretty quickly.

Thx...its nice to have options.

I was always an anti-packrat anyway. I hate clutter Some of the books i havn't opened in years. In a way it feels good to lighten the load. Some are just picture books...given the internet now, they are sort of redundant. I also realized that many of the books i've read (and overhighlighted and noted) will probably likewise, just sit forever on the shelf. Most warbooks don't make for good re-reads. A few are exceptions.

I'm not going to propose you take this route, but it's something to consider:

This past weekend, I packed up some 30 old WWII books, popular military fiction and a few other miscellaneous books cluttering the storage space and took them to a used book store in the area. Got $17.50. No, it's not a lot, but at least I got something for them and managed to clear some storage room.

I'd be afraid to hook up anything to it. Big black has got 183,000 miles on her and i'm hoping that with a new starter motor in place, she will continue to hum along as she has for the last 10 years without a ......ahem...."hitch"

plan on doing that with the books in good condition. The ones i've tossed up to this point were getting pretty dogeared anyway.

One thing i don't plan on giving up, is my DVD collection. That'll hurt for xGFU since she's a NCIS and House maniac.....but guess who bought all the seasons? Besides i need something to watch too. Figure one suitcase worth of clothing, a couple ties and one decent set of pants and dress shirt.

NB was specifically slated as well. He should be starting w/ Barcelona coming up so he'll have the opportunity. Fear the slayers of ManUnited, the mighty Wolves.

Why? - its a perfectly natural thing to have done - its not pathetic

But if you insist on the punishment this is the closest I could find to a kicking.

Nik, sorry to hear your news. I know at times like these encouragement and optimism seem polyanish (sp?), but chin up! I'm a marriage retread of ten years and much happier for it. I remember moving from wife MkI's house with everything I owned in a U-haul van. It wasn't fun, but once on the road, it felt like a new beginning that was a long time coming...

Really sorry to hear that Nik.

Ive been down that road, and it is not a very pleasant place to be. I got home from work one day and my (then) fiancee told me our relationship was over, clear out of the blue. I had no idea, I got no warning, there were no "signs", nothing. This was three months before our wedding was to take place, all the invitations had been sent out etc, the day before we had sat there choosing what music we wanted during the entry into the Church. It was quite absurd to sit there the day after being given one week to move out.

It would have been easier to deal with it if I had done something wrong, but that just came straight out of the blue for no apparent reason, she broke up with me because "she had to".
