Just saw a spot for Danish TV's coverage of the upcoming royal wedding in the UK. They called it "The Wedding of the Century".

Really? I don't even think the Brits think so...

Well, which century? Seems as though it's the most ballyhooed wedding in the 21st century at least.

USS Mike,

For those of us (e.g., me) that aren't paying much attention to the NHL playoffs, yet desire to be socially relevant in 'water cooler' type discussions, can you give a brief breakdown on the teams and likely outcomes from brackets?

I'd love to give you likely outcomes from the Eastern and Western Conference brackets, but honestly, all bets are off this year! There have been so many swings of momentum from game to game and period to period that anyone can win any of the best of 7 series'. I will tell you that the Detroit Red Wings (NY Yankees of the hockey world) and the Washington Capitals are the two teams to advance to the second round so far. I like and am rooting for the Vancouver Canucks to win the Cup, and they got up 3 games to none against Chicago, but the Blackhawks have won the last two. Whichever team has the hottest goal tender will likely go on a run and win it all. I'm not biased being a goal tender's dad, either.

if the sharks can't put away the kings tonight, i might dis-avow them...AGAIN!!! it's worse than watching the SF Giants brand of "torture" last baseball season...

Heh ... I hadn't even noticed there was another royal wedding coming up.

Those kind of news sort of just "disappears" when I look at some newspage - much like the ads.

Must be my total disinterest in those kind of things.

never really considered "absurdities" as either palpable or non-palpable...

Was watching bad tv after a food overdose from easter w/ the family. A guy steals a check from his girlfriend's mom. He makes it out himself and goes to the bank to cash it. He's immediately arrested. He had made the check out for $360 billion. I'm not the most aggresive darwinist there is but even I think he needs to be pruned.

Good cast, ok flick. My brother sold it to me as a comedy. Don't know about that. He liked it a lot more than I did.

Heh, it seems that the State Dept really wants to make it harder to get new (US) passports;

"The U.S. Department of State is proposing a new Biographical Questionnaire for some passport applicants: The proposed new Form DS-5513 asks for all addresses since birth; lifetime employment history including employers’ and supervisors names, addresses, and telephone numbers; personal details of all siblings; mother’s address one year prior to your birth; any “religious ceremony” around the time of birth; and a variety of other information. According to the proposed form, “failure to provide the information requested may result in … the denial of your U.S. passport application.”

The State Department estimated that the average respondent would be able to compile all this information in just 45 minutes, which is obviously absurd given the amount of research that is likely to be required to even attempt to complete the form.

It seems likely that only some, not all, applicants will be required to fill out the new questionnaire, but no criteria have been made public for determining who will be subjected to these additional new written interrogatories. So if the passport examiner wants to deny your application, all they will have to do is give you the impossible new form to complete.

It’s not clear from the supporting statement, statement of legal authorities, or regulatory assessment submitted by the State Department to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) why declining to discuss one’s siblings or to provide the phone number of your first supervisor when you were a teenager working at McDonalds would be a legitimate basis for denial of a passport to a U.S. citizen.

The new questions also ask for the names and contact information of all witnesses to your birth."

Hi all,,

Did you guys know about this?

Loudness war

The loudness war or loudness race is a pejorative name for the apparent competition to digitally master and release recordings with increasing loudness.

Nobody uses castles for defensive purposes any-more, it's all dugouts, razor-wire, minefields, and cream pies.

Dunno about viking land, but there's ticks aplenty coming out of the woodwork here. And they're hungry! Bring lots of insect repellent!
