After one of my exploratory surgeries, the one with the bleeding complication. I was recovering in the surgery ward, and was been visited regularly by the team Surgeons. These two eminent Surgeons would visit me about three times a day, with a large team of followers. They would arrive, and the curtains around my bed would be pulled, then they would examine the area of the surgery.

On the second day after the operation this team was examining me, when one of the head Surgeons had a closer look at one of the surgery wounds. He points out something to the other head Surgeon who was on the other side of the bed. So both Surgeons decided to swap sides of the bed, so the second guy can have a look at the wound. They meet at the end of the bed, and bang, they accidentally head-butt each other. I couldn't help it, and start laughing. I then said 'So you two guys had my life in your hands two days ago'.

It was just one of those moments in life, when a serious moment got a bit lighter. Everybody there saw the funny side, and started laughing too (about fifteen people). I have since found-out that I had quite a serious bleed during the surgery, and these two guys probably saved my life.

I agree. Very poor sport. Besides, I learned my lesson when I was 16. I had a cigarette butt, which I can thrown out of my drivers front window, come back in through the drivers side rear window and burn a hole in a very nice leather jacket I had laying in the back seat. So now I use the ashtray.

Unfortunately, those are becoming more and more rare in new cars (and no, I'm not paying an additional $5000 for the "smoking package").

Plenty of them pointedly ignore no smoking signs, just because they can. **** them.


Well, you could start a social awareness campaign. I hear that the social media is great for mobilizing people. You, and your like-minded individuals could take pictures of people who fail to abide by the no smoking signs using your smartphones (everyone has them nowadays) and post them on the station bulletin board with a catchy header like "This Person Endangers Our Lives".

You could also assemble a portfolio of sorts of these pictures and create a website dedicated to catching people in the act. You could see who the most posted offenders are and perhaps even send the evidence over to the safety department of the railroad (dont know about Denmark, but pretty much every MTA department here has its own Public Safety force, which can definitely issue fines and citations for that sort of thing). I'm not saying that they'll chase all those people down and give them tickets, but having the smokers themselves become more aware of the fact that not waiting until youre in a less contentious place to light up can carry hefty financial consequences is a great tool in your arsenal. Once smokers, and commuters in general, get more in tune with the situation (definitely not saying it will happen overnight), I'm sure you will enjoy a smoke-free commute at least most of the time.

Failing that, you can just relax and STFU, mmmm-kay?

There's no reason, good or bad, to smoke in 2011. Everybody, EVERYBODY, knows how dangerous it is, and everybody can quit.

I don't want to hear any whining about how "hard" it is. You want to quit, you quit. Therefore, if you're not quitting, it's because you don't want to quit, and thus, you're anti-social.

Littering like this should be enforced and the litterers fined heavily.

Trying to defend smokers choice is like trying to defend Hitler. Very difficult in today's society of outraged victims. What I'm touching on is once you insist that others curb their outdoor behavior to suit your own needs, it's a slippery slope. Maybe we should promote a 'shiv a sweaty Dane' day for those that are offended by sweat and human body odor that they are exposed to it after some Dane has a prolonged workout and chooses not to shower before returning home? What about joggers running by with sweat dripping from them, stinking up the beautiful out of doors? Kids outside playing? Well that's noise pollution writ large. Definitely call the cops. Dogs URINATING on public walkways? Definitely need to call the cops there too.

I'm just about as far from an "over regulator" as you can get. But, none of the things you mentioned above is slowly killing me at the same time it is killing the originator. I'm extremely in favor of allowing an individual to do whatever they want to their own body (completely ignoring the increased cost for my own health insurance to take care of them), I just don't want that harm forced on me. It already was for the first 20 years of my life, and I have respiratory problems because of it.

To me there are different types of "outdoors". There are public places where others can get away from the second hand smoke and there are places where they are not able to get away from it. In the second situation, it should be the smoker that needs to move to a different place to "do the deed."

Edit: Sorry for the soap box action and I'll stop now. This one just hits home with me, because I have already been physically harmed by it.

I enjoy smoking very much and have no plans to quit in the near future. I do so at my own risk, which I am fully aware of.

I am also sensitive to the desires of other people and do my best to smoke in designated areas (at work, for example). I do not smoke around children or pregnant women and in mixed (non-smoking company) i make it a point to ask if anyone minds before I light up.

As for your idiotic statements about being antisocial, if you make the personal choice not to socialize with people who smoke, that is entirely your decision (and your loss). Don't try to foist your irrelevant opinions on others. It's been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that the reason you have difficulty in social settings is because you are an overly opinionated, aggressive and self centered collection of dumb, baseless statements. Your insults are more proof of this (if any was needed). You seem absolutely incapable of conducting any conversation, regardless of topic, without resorting to insults and baiting (or trolling in the case of this forum) if any opinions differ from yours. Smoking or non-smoking, you are the antisocial one in this "conversation".

I'm just about as far from an "over regulator" as you can get. But, none of the things you mentioned above is slowly killing me at the same time it is killing the originator. I'm extremely in favor of allowing an individual to do whatever they want to their own body (completely ignoring the increased cost for my own health insurance to take care of them), I just don't want that harm forced on me. It already was for the first 20 years of my life, and I have respiratory problems because of it.

To me there are different types of "outdoors". There are public places where others can get away from the second hand smoke and there are places where they are not able to get away from it. In the second situation, it should be the smoker that needs to move to a different place to "do the deed."

Edit: Sorry for the soap box action and I'll stop now. This one just hits home with me, because I have already been physically harmed by it.


I agree with you completely. I wish more smokers were sensitive to the desire of others to live in a smoke-free environment.

However, it's the vociferous, abusive drivel such as the post I responded to previously which has caused many smokers to feel like a persecuted minority.

If the smoker is asked not to smoke in a certain place, I feel that the request us fair and I would apologize to the person making the request and put out my cigarette. But if I am demeaned, abused and called a puto (or whatever other creative language certain people can come up with) my response would be to go stick your head in a bucket.

I'd love to give you likely outcomes from the Eastern and Western Conference brackets, but honestly, all bets are off this year! There have been so many swings of momentum from game to game and period to period that anyone can win any of the best of 7 series'. I will tell you that the Detroit Red Wings (NY Yankees of the hockey world) and the Washington Capitals are the two teams to advance to the second round so far. I like and am rooting for the Vancouver Canucks to win the Cup, and they got up 3 games to none against Chicago, but the Blackhawks have won the last two. Whichever team has the hottest goal tender will likely go on a run and win it all. I'm not biased being a goal tender's dad, either.
