Ya'll remember the SNL skit where Gilda Radner does the 'I hate Jennifer' thing?

I hate Microsoft;
Yes, I hate Microsoft;
I hate, hate, hate, hate, hate;
Microsoft, microsoft, microsoft;
I hate Microsoft;

[microsoft] hey, you want to play Barbies?
Barbies? With you?
[microsoft] sure, just sign this license agreement and bend over.

I hate Microsoft;
Yes, I hate Microsoft;
I hate, hate, hate, hate, hate;
Microsoft, microsoft, microsoft;
I hate Microsoft;

Hi all,

Oh my...

Few photos from Telegraph UK regarding Hurricane Katia that hit UK few days ago...

Leeds Bradford International Airport (Englands highest airport)

"RyanAir" aborts the landing:

"Flybe" manages to land under great difficulties:

holy cr@p!!!! crabbing the nose of an airplane almost 45 degrees due to cross winds is NOT a recommended landing evolution...were these shear winds or sustained?

Obviously, I just got a new Office 2010. Was tweakin on some stuff; didn't do like I thought it oughta. Called tech support.

<half hour of pushing buttons> "Hello, I am Ragoosh, and to me I am helping for a problem to you directly. And to what it is which is this and a directly problem yes?" < it's a problem with excel> " ... Ahhh, the excellent program, yes, yes, I this all know excellent program to be help you and it is so excellent, and what program is I can be helpful for you?"

It was seriously amusing. Didn't get jack for help, but found out Ragoosh was just 18, His first job, had no clue who Microsoft was, wanted to be an architectural model maker, worked with clay, didn't give a rat's about computers or Americans, he just answers the phone.

This is just too cool. Oh, Brother, this is just too cool. When the fit finally hits the shan, just remember young Brother Ragoosh and know, in your heart of hearts, it wasn't you.

I've talked with that guy!!! But he said his name was John........

No....his name was "Bill" and the weather in Bangledesh is fine this time of year.

Thanks a lot Andre! (PUNK KID!) Stuck sitting at the airport tithe......

A good laugh....but any mention of the Outsourcing thing always reminds me of the time we almost had a Strike at ATT. Company's reaction? Opened two new outsourcing call centers....one in Nova Scotia (!!).....the other in the Philippines. (!!!!!!)

I'm applying to be a Part Time Metro transit driver. Seriously. Good pay and benefits, even if your part time.....and it's one industry they CANT outsource. (though i suppose someday they'll all be computer driven)

Lord knows my 2nd contract job won't go anywhere......still awaiting developments with the first.

Thanks!

Uff... OK... let's stick with the big boys (i.e. "Division I") then...

Why are there different conferences in that "Div I"?

Do they play each other in their own conference (or they play teams from other conferences as well)?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_NCAA_conferences

Hi Leo:

As a casual NCAA College Football fan, I can take a swing at this. Within Div I, groups of teams (usually regional-ish) are broken down into smaller more manageable conferences with 8-12 or so teams in them. Otherwise you've have hundreds of Div I teams in one bracket. That would be as unmanageable as the current playoff status.

Schedules-what teams play whom when-are mostly within one's own conference, but approximately half of the games played are outside of one's own conference. Usually, when playing outside of one's own conference, other Div I teams are played. Sometimes a Div II opponent will be played.

Div I schools with poor football teams are paid significant sums of money ($300,000-$2 Million+) by other Div I teams with football prowess to get sacrificed to pump up the other team's winning record. Sometimes they cooperate and lose big. Other times, the underdogs will trip up the host Div I team-those times are a hoot!

Complicated as hell...

Oh you have no idea. Now you get to learn about NCAA bylaws and enforcement, ostensibly designed to ensure amateur status for all programs, i.e. make sure no school is surreptitiously paying players to come play for them. In addition, it establishes academic standards to keep the 'educational integrity' of the school, i.e. so schools can't recruit dumb oaf lineman, put him in the Breathing While Walking 'course of study', and then play him.

These bylaws are honored more in the breach than otherwise in all truth, though most violations are minor gaffs like accidently meeting a recruit during 'quiet time' and such. There are a few schools with a history of major violations. Most major issues come from booster clubs rather than coaching staffs, though there are exceptions. Boosters can be ingenious in their methods of feeding money to recruit's families. The sad truth is that many of these kids are black and come from very rough backgrounds. They (and their families) are very susceptible to offers of money for obvious reasons.

College football is a huge business and it is becoming more critical to the many educational institutions' financial bottom line as state monies dry up. And they get their product essentially for free.

BTW, I am still utterly confused about this whole "system"... who on Earth managed to devise such way to play...

Leo "Apollo11"

"Devise" implies far too much intelligent thought. "Cobbled" is a good word but might be too idiomatic for you?

Or to paraphrase Stringbag's wonderful description of the Shackleford, "10,000 bad ideas flying in close formation" about describes the NCAA.

i guess with a burning motorcycle and potentially a burning car, you screw the possibility of neck/back injuries...this particular easy rider doesn't appear to have been wearing a helmet...

Excellent!!!

30 degrees all the time, i patroled dalmatia from Pag in the north all the way south to Makarska.

Tried to visit Brela, Baska Voda were i was on holidays in the 80´s, but i barely was able to manouver my new car out of them without damage.

Man, both villages have nearly four times more houses now than in the past, with the equal grow of tourist numbers!!!

In Promajna i finally found a place to park my car and wlk around, and i found the house were we had our last holidays pre-war.

In the past it stands completely alone, now it is surrounded by new houses, but with luck i remembered the entrance to it despite it is 22 years back

Fantastic panoramas, beaches and the cristal clear waters. I am overwhelmed every time. One of the most beautiful countries in the world.
