Even if they're not game winners, they can give one side an undeserved better chance at winning. Tracking a plethora of house rules would be problematic, hence why I tend to limit them to a handful if need be.

You can all say no house rules are needed, but I'm 99% sure a player will complain if someone pulls a really gamey move on you that could easily have been prevented by a house rule.

I'm sure it would be very irritating and make the game less fun, but how many gamey tactics have the potential to be game-winners? Because I think having to keep track of a plethora of house rules would also make the game much less fun...

Nobody is talking about a "plethora" of rules - that would be nonsense ;)

Just a sensible handful as is normally the case with war games of this scale and complexity - too many opportunities to do insane and a-historical things.

I like house rules. Mind you, I never felt the need to actually use them, but if I had an opponent that had a good suggestion or two, I wouldn't be against it on principle.

Try playing FiTE you'll get a laundry list of HR's including Hungarian units are not allowed to stack next to or with Romanian units. There are thousands of units in FiTE and I'm supposed to make sure that one unit does not get mixed into the stack of another.

I do agree that a few sensible easy to remember rules just to keep things fair is agreeable. So far I haven't seen any glarling exploits but I am stilll playing the AI.

Human players are always very different from the AI. The problem with some game exploits in a game this huge is that they may not be spotted until you are 12 months in. Then you suddenly realise that the other guy is on a totally different wave length. I've had that in WiTP in the past and its very frustrating. Best to agree the key parameters at the start, IMO

Theres just a simple rule about the Huns and Romneys here. They can't stack together. Done, no house rule...Try it you can't...

That's good, although I always wondered when playing these games if those two really would have started fighting each other in the middle of Russia with the Red Army just over the horizon. Do you think this issue has become somewhat overstated in all games of this type?

Who cares, I don't. Thats just the rule. So I keep them apart through out my game. I may have to pull a Hun corp to block an attack and I don't what to deal with in fighting...

Coming from the old Wir when House Rules were needed I dont see the reason to add it now to WitE. If something is wrong we can think is a bug and be fixed but house rule no more, pls Of course, every gamer can play whatever he wants in his own games.

It's debatable whether the regular Hungarian and Romanian troops would really have started fighting eachother when faced with a single, much more threatening enemy. What is more likely is that their commanders would've refused to work with eachother, making any kind of operations in an area rather complicated.

I'm not a big fan of house rules either, preferring to leave it to the game. However, many players will take advantage of game limitations and do 'gamey' things. I think some of the issues ComradeP has brought up defintely fall into the 'gamey' aspect and I hope they are rectified. I'm sure more will come up as more people play the game as well.

I think gamey moves make games more fun.  These are game after all.
Instead of complaining about a gamey move your enemy has done?
Why not use your creativity and do gamey moves yourself.
People should lighten up when playing these games.
