Yep, except time is kind of scarce this period..... I'll do my best to put it ASAP, but unfortunately no sooner than Friday...
Also, any requests? Want more system names, more detailed reports, more pillaging and looting?

The story is great and I enjoyed every part of it, though I was wondering if you are pirate how come you use always same shipset! You should use various ships that aren't part of your empire's default shipset! Or is it that such ship design was developed by pirates of Pestulon themselves for their own raiding needs?

Well, since the aim of the !!!Pirates of Pestulon!!! is to become a galactic syndicate, they technically should have their own shipset. Didn't the Orion Syndicate have their own ship designs or something? Well at least in the Starfleet command games they did.

But yeah, that's a good idea, hadn't thought of doing that at the start, kind of late now, don't have the luxury of recalling all ships for a refit to new designs. I do love the Mortalen design though...

Merker's updates are like the DW patches....you can start to read it from scratch but I doubt, once Merker gives us the next chapter, you'll have the patience to finish the previous ones and not jump right in the last one.
I'll re-read the pictures

Here is the latest chapter. I wanted to take it further than this, but it's getting harder and harder to keep up with all the stuff happening at once.

Chapter 5 -To raid or not to raid

ARRRR!! I be wakin' bored this mornin'. The past raidin' 's been fruitless for me lads and meself. We be findin' nothin' at the Republic colonies in the south. Seems they be recently expandin' here fer except a wee freighter or two nothing crossed the sights of our cannons. But me boredom didn't have a long life. ARRR! Shiver me timbers, we be findin' another one of those wreck fields. 'Tis like they be everywhere in the claws of our enemies. Methinks someone be leavin' them on purpose everywhere. Fortunately, we be able to find one of the republic constructors finishing repairs, and we be claimin' a new cruiser for our band of merry men.

As we be returnin' to Korrabia for refuellin', we be gettin' news that the Republic fleet be huntin' one of our ressupliers, headin' our meery way. Well be throwin' me into space and shootin' me with a torpedo. We be gettin' some action today. And just when we be thinkin' that the holds are a'fullin'.

ARRR, those wretched toads be troublin' again. They be hittin' our smugglin' bases. Us be showin' them no quarter when we be radin' their home. A plan is underway from the Big badda Boss. YARRRRR! But first we need to be takin' care of the wee fleet headin' our way!!! Man the turrets you space slugs, be readin' this ship fer battle!!

One of our scouts be pickin' up their hold o'booty, smack in their home system. That be no challenge fer meself and me mates, once the Boss be givin' us permission. We must be takin care of the froggies soon enough though, the fat-heads and flat-lizards be decidin' to be goin' after us! YARRRR, more loot for each cut-throat aboard this fleet, yahrr harr harrr
http://img858.imageshack.us/img858/9282/pic6toadgets.jpg

Well I'll be shot and impaled on a pike, we be catching the Republic fleet in an ambush!!! The Kyphar system be the perfect place where our r'sply ship lured them, and they be fallin' fer it. We be waitin' so close to the star that we be feeling our brains a'roastin' but that be confusin' their sensors so much they never knew what hit'em. Not their main fleet with the cap'ships, but good enough a prey fer me!! Bring them down ya space urchins!! Last one to board their flagship is a target fer me blaster!!!

Yarrr Harr Harr, the cowards be runnin' in fear of our guns!!! After their flagship fell, they be turnin' tail and runnin' further than we be botherin' to follow. After this here success, the Republic be willin' to pay us tribute and leave us be with our dealin'. This be the grand day we be waitin' for since we started our little raidin' party. But much more work to be done.

The good news couldn't couldn't be any sooner, fer the otapao and others be refusing to pay taxes, so we be thinkin' they be needin' a wippin'....but not before the wee toadies get a tastin'

3 of our raider fleets be convergin' on the central systems. We be goin' fer the jugular, a slash of the ol' cutlass never fails to bring the fear out of anyone, harrrr harr

Raider 5 launched a darrin' assault against the main yard o' the Kennatar, they took heavy casualties, but those scalawags be pullin it of!!!! I'll be thundered and thrown in lava, but they did it, and got us the payment in full!!

Raider7 retamed the Sol people, who'd been thinkin' about takin' us down again(what be they thinkin', tha' they can kill us with harsh language?! those rottin' tar covered-and-roasted-in-oil sea urchins!!!!)

ARRRRR, we be fightin' in the heart of toad land. Pieces of frogs be flying left and right, they never be expectin' us so deep behind their lines. We be tearin' their stations assunder...HAAARRRRR!! Mateys, be sure to be loadin' up the loot, we be goin' back rich today! All scoundrels with a taste for exotic munchin' be goin' to the boardin' pods!!!

Shiver me timbers and be throwin me into fire!!! The toads be havin' another one of those world killer thingies!!!! How many o' those be there?! The Argos' been blastin planets assunder lately, and now the frogs be swimmin' in planet dust!! What be the world commin' to?! So close to our goals be us, yet everyone commin' up with planet killin machines!!! ARRR, this be hard times fer a pirate such as meself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ubrua Scae mining camp be destroyin', along with the entire freakin' planet!!! ARRR, what be the use of destroyin' planets, no lootin' and pillagin' can be done!!! Why can't everyone be practical like us pirates?! Raider6 be attackin' the big ball, but me be doubtin' they be havin' any luckin'! We be toastin' to their success....or deaths o'glory...
BEFORE & AFTER

Not all be dark and moody today, fer the zenox and the Dethanoni be givin' up on crime fightin' and accepting our taxes. The Big Badda Boss must be knowin' how to be talkin' to them queer folk! ARRRR, we be followin' tha' man to Davey Jones' locker and back again!!

ARRR Harr harrr harrr, methinks me goin' queer nowadays, 'cause me can't be believin' me patchless eye! The dhayut fellas' be sendin' a fleet to aid R6 against the planet killer, ARRR, me and the boys be toastin' to their name!! The spiders sure be knowin' how to deal with us pirates, the right way that be!! Sadly, the planet killer escaped before the spider mateys destroyed it!! But we be dealin' a might blow to the frogs today!! This be callin' for a toastin'!!

The later toast ain' over yet when we be hearin' about the lizards of the north be agreein' to pay the tribute of peace!! We be rejoicin' a lot nowadays, methinks me should be changin' the code for the rum bay, otherwise we be goin' with drunken mateys into the next battle!!!

Smugglin' be going good these days, lots o'coin to be made. We be makin' no discriminations, we be sellin' to all who be willin' to pay. Swashbucklers be smarter than most, we be havin' no use for hatred. Spice going to everyone and boostin' the ol' treasure hold. Soon we be gettin' zentabia fluid, me hears, fer 'tis addictive and be sellin' well on the market. The wee toadies be fightin' over it with the otapao and others, but we be sendin' our slaves to be minin' everythin', hardy harrr harrr.

Arrrr! The naxillians be hatin' us fer no reason, even though the Big Boss be their cousin as a race. They be havin' no honor, so they be gettin' no quarter from us. 'Tis been decided, we be raidin' them right after the toadies have been taught another lesson. At least they be takin' care o'that wee space kraken in orbit o' our smugglin' camp near their grounds. This should be good fer the bussiness.

Those treacherous hyenas that the Republic be, they be decidin' to be huntin' us once more. We be takin' none of that, once me fleet be full o' fuel me boys and meself be raidin' their capital. They must be learnin' they not be messin' with us pirates. On the frog front, we be hearin that R7 be findin' the world killer of the toadies...while under repair!! ARRR, this be our chance, methinks, time to rid the galaxy of this unprofitable venture. We be pirates, yes, but killin' planets is bad fer everyone's business, so what if we be savin' everyone else fer a change? HARR, this be amusin', the spiders be wackin' the big shippie before our party even be gettin' there. These wee spiders be havin' a pirate mind. They be raidin' with precision.

This be hard times fer me and me crew. Without fuel we be takin' ages to be gettin' anywhere, in enemy land no less. The zenox be chosin' to be breakin' the deal again. ARRR, and we be sittin' here on our behinds doin' nothin'. THIS BE gettin' tiresome.

Finally the Otapao be givin' up again. They be askin' fer a lesson. Fortunately fer them we be busy....very busy.

Finally the ship o' bug slaves be arrivin' at Zentabia and the minin''s begun. Fortunately, the Republic and the Argos be bein' too busy killin' each other to be botherin' us around that area, so we be shippin zentabia as well now. 'Tis not a bad drug, it actually be makin' people better, but 'tis pretty addictive, and the evil governments be decidin' that that not be allowin' them to be controlin' the folks. What be wrong with a wee bit o' the ol' freedom says I? Pirates be teachin' them how to treat people soon methinks.

After many weeks'a'waitin' we be reachin' a friendly port where we be breathin' a bit and refuelin' at the peaceful lizards o' the Yitnes system. Now we be ready fer action against the frogs. We be makin' them pay for strandin' us so far. On to toadland!!

ARRRG!!! We be hittin' the toads hardin', and our cook be givin' us frog stew tonightin'. They be surprised again by our attacks, with all their petty wars a'goin'. We be hoppin' this time they be givin'...if not then we can always be takin', harrr harrr harrr!!!

The Raid be successful, ARRRR! But the toadies not be surrenderin'. They be tough opponents yarr, but we be pirates, and soon they be yieldin', like all the others behind them, harr harr!!

-End of chapter-

Well, it's not the size I hoped it would be. It certainly was challenging to keep the fleets alive and keep up with all the events without being boring. The largest part of this chapter was raiding to keep the other people subjugated. They kept redeclaring war over and over again, and the toads just don't give up.

Stay tuned for MORE PIRACY.....AND AND EPIC CONCLUSION!!!

Actually, I was referring to the long time it took the fuel-dry fleet to get to a freakin' spaceport. Well, I was intending to do the grand ending of the AAR this weekend, but I would have just rushed and ruined everything, especially the fun part. And I've had more fun doing this AAR than any DW game I've played before. I've found out things about DW I never knew, and learned the extent of what the AI can do on its own and this pleased me a lot(for example: I always thought the AI only ever used one single freakin' fleet, and just as I resumed the AAR  I noticed the major empires use at least 3 fleets each, that I could see at least; I noticed the AI place defense bases around their major colonies/and all of my major colonies, and the other empires hitting pirates; I've also learned how extremely effective and useful pirates can be as allies and how funding them can make them a real threat-you can see them blasting spaceports in an earlier pic!!)

I intended to make the next chapter the final one, but I'll see how it plays out. The boskara seem to be growing more and more powerful and my ships can't match theirs 1 on 1 or even 2 on 1, their fleet could probably blast mine to pieces, since a destroyer of theirs has the power of one of my 2 capships; they are at war with everyone and winning. The Argos are making more and more enemies and blowing up more and more planets. Guess owning the WD does that to ya at some point, the quameno for example went from admired to evil in less than a year, and they used to be the good guys with "way of the ancients" gov type and all that; the Argos were just peaceful traders before getting the WD.

Also, seems that the "smuggling" feature of the game works, as in even if I'm at war with empires my freighters still deliver spice and other cargo to them. The naxillians are among my best customers with over 1000k trading, and they are at war with me.

The AI also recovers from my raids quite fast. I had barely cleared the quameno home system of mining bases and a few months later it's full again. Not to mention the Republic, who seem to have had a small fleet due to being at peace with everyone and now they're sending capital ships on patrol!!

I'll put the ARR on hold until I can finish with an exam that's coming. Expect an update around 8 or 9th of April. I want to make a grand finale, and that implies having fun. Doing it with a time limit takes the fun away. If I get a good grade the ARR will get a ton of updates(or not at all because I'll be partying)

In addition, this will NOT be my last AAR. I have plenty of plans in mind, especially for ROTS, but life issues will take priority so I can do a proper AAR when I have the time.

Until then, any suggestions/requests/complains about the AAR? I am trying to establish a style. Want more pictures of explosions, more trading/smuggling etc?

Cheers

I like it too much the way it is to think of anything else atm, your style is well established.
Good luck with the exam

Yea good luck with exams! Do 'em good so you can make some more AAR for us! Maybe I could start one AAR in meantime, focusing on voyages of Picard's Enterprise or Defiant? Or maybe I could develop my own alternative Star Trek timeline with Elim Garak as captain of Galor ship!

Chapter 6: Blasted to pieces

Arrr, tha Big Boss be callin us all back to Pestulon. All raidin' parties 've been canceled and many bases abandoned. Nobody be tellin' us a thing. 'Tis going to be at least a couple of months till me mateys and meself be arriving at the ol' planet.

ARRRRR NOOOO!!!!! When we be arrvin' we be seein' the ARgos planet killer blowin' up our poor dusty rock!!! Tha big Boss is gone, everyone is gone!!! We be fightin'!!!

Arrrrr, They be gettin' us!!!AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

And so, the leadership of the pirates of Pestulon gone, the rest of them surrendered to the nearest governments and joined their navy, being far too numerous for anyone to afford jail expenses.

THE END....

APRIL FOOLS!!!

Hahaha, got ya. What april fools joke is better than one later than you would expect it?

EDIT: I'll do SO much BeamSpam if/when the proper beam cannons are added to DW. You can never have enough Beams!
Bash dem landlubbers!

Reminds me: I should get my own advertised AAR going soon.

Chapter 6: Queer happenings

ARRR!!! As the holds be gettin' fatter, and we be gettin' older as well as our shippies, The Big Boss be doin' some upgradin'. The new cruiser design be bigger than the ol' birds, but faster, and more resilient. The smugglin' ports be gettin' an upgrade as well, with the new hospital facilities helpin' "getting rid of" sickness(many be much better now, population surplus on Pestulon also miraculously gone, hehe) and the new bars keepin' the lads always drunk.

'Tis been a couple of weeks since our last raid and me mateys be getting restless. But we be getting the call soon enough to raid the toad mining facilities. Our men inside their numbers be hinting us all valuable targets within striking range. The new base be a boon fer us, allowing us to strike with a speed never before seen so far. Andat base be our main launch site now, with 2 R-ships within spittin' distance. R8 be comin' to be supportin' us as well. The frogs be rebuildin' too fast for raidin' speed so we be needin' to hit more targets at once to make them submit.

We still be havin' trouble from the Imperial Kiadians, who be thinkin' their main concern be us and not the other empires they are at war with. They be sendin' their fleets after our Rs-ships. Methinks they be needin' a wee bit o'grog to come to their senses.

'Tis nice to be hearin' that the teekan Lorideos rats be as viscious as ever. They be declarin' war on the Axom dynasty, the greatest threat to the galaxy, and they be assaultin' with their wee ships. I be admirin' their courage, but not their recklessness....

The Mortalens of the Yitnes system be very queer indeed. They be forgin' two distinct empires and they be settlin' all the planets in the system, without even botherin' to leave for better prey. Nevertheless, they be provin' a good node for our smugglers to get lost in, as they be peaceful enough to trade with everyone.

All be goin' well with the raidin' until the Argos be decidin' to accept a bribe to get rid of us. 'Tis not nice that they be stoopin' so low as to take mercenary contracts, but at least they be honest about it. Hopefully, their planet killer be far from Pestulon....

Finally we be gettin' to Andat base for refuellin'. This be much faster than the last time we really needed fuel. On to gettin' some toad legs for the good ol' cook down in the kitchen.

The Republic has not given up on huntin' us, even with all their wars. Me be hearin' of their warships searchin' for our hideouts everywhere.

ARRRRRRR!!!! Terrible, terrible news!!! We be hearin' that the Argos be closin' in on Pestulon. But they be going fer the Teekans!! Their first colony to fall was destroyed by the Argos world killer just as it dropped out of hyperspace!!! So much food for the Mortalen be wastin'. Why they be doin' such a thing!!!????

And if that not be enough, an Axom fleet entered the Teekan system soon after the World Killer and its fleet.

What we be hearin' next after a few days, me not be believin'.............the rats launched a suicide attack against the Argos fleet and boarded all the ships !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They be takin' the whole fleet, be loadin' as many survivors as they could and they be jumpin' out. Our people be hearin' they be headin' for a suicidal run on the Axom!!! Me be bowin' to the rats, they be havin' more guts than the whole rabble of Pestulon itself....

The rest of the teekan worlds be sharin' the same fate soon enough though.....the Argos be cruel, ARRRRR ,and that comin' from a swashbuckler like meself be meanin' somethin...

Meanwhile, soon after the queer news be reachin' us, we be arrivin' at our raidin' site. The spaceport of Azain be nothin' more than a moorin' spot fer freighters. It be fallin' to our guns faster than you can swear and spit at the same time.

I be hearin' about the new plan of The Big Boss fer all the new coin we be gettin' from smugglin', but I not be concerning meself too much with it...until I be hearin' that many governments be stayin' their hands from huntin' us anymore and soon enough, that the Argos be havin' a civil war, with a new faction flamin' anew in the north of their homeworld!!!

Our man aboard the Argos Planet buster be tellin' us that after the revolution the big bug not be makin' any movement. For several months the thing be stayin' in the remains of the teekan worlds.(*note that I have my scout selected. It appears it somehow got "stuck" on the world destroyer because every time I selected it it showed me the world destroyer, and of course, sensor data of the surroundings*)

Our boys of R10 be gettin' some action, I be hearin'. An Argos AND a toad huntin' party went for our R-ship 1 in the Kareda system, after knowin' about it for years. Fortunately, the toads be sendin' only a few ol' cruisers and destroyers, while the Argos destroyers, and the greatest challenge, their capital ship. Fortunately, since both parties be arrivin' so close to each other, they be confusin' themselves enough so that our boys be cripplin' their fleets and forcin' the big capital ship to be runnin'. ARRRRRR! A toast to the mateys of R10!

Soon after the end of another raid by R8 and me boys, and their shameful messin'up with R10, the toads be decidin' that they be too proud fer their own good and they be agreein' to be payin' the price of safety!!! ARRRRR! And not soon enough the Argos be too ashamed to continue the hunt as well, AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!! Fer two days and two nights we be drinkin' in the name of The Big Boss!!! He be knowin' how to lossen' their tongue.

-End of chapter-

Sorry for the delay, had to figure out where I was with this. Enjoy!

NEXT: We be huntin' space Krakens!!!!

Cheers

Glad you be enjoying it matey, 'tis only a matter o'time till we be getting to the republic capital....to loot the place dry. The events just keep precipitating and getting more surprising every time. I've never had such an eventful game before, honestly. Like the thing with the Teekans capturing the Argos fleet, that was phenomenal. The surprises this game offers just keep coming. If the original has so many unknowns to me yet, I can only imagine how ROTS will run me down into the ground with amazement.

Enjoying it is an understatement, even the title you put on it made me go back to the entire SQ series, not just the third one (I think that was the one actually named pirates of pestulon).
So great work all around with this AAR

Even though some old games are genuinely good it's usually the nostalgia factor. Some people just seem to love to live in the past. No offence meant.

But we wants the present, we wants the future....but there's no followup on that, today most of them are about combat and shallow plots and such.

Many of the todays game indeed have shallow plots and too much combat. But, there's still many complex, great and unique (Try to imagine Patapon series in the 90's. Quite "easy" isn't it?) games out there if you look closely. The thing that has changed is the ratio of complex and unique games to other, casual games and their visibility in gaming media in general.

"Money smells" as we use to say here in Finland. Complex games won't sell enough to generate money for greedy gaming companies. There's always more casual gamers than us "hardcore" gamers. It's the fact we have to accept.
I hate. Hate it so much. But that's the world we live in.
Best way to fight against this trend is to support indie (and other) developers, who have the balls to make really different and deep games, as much as possible.

That's my take on this issue anyway.
