Yes, my KG continues to dwindle as your forces make their advance. You are to be commended on the judicious use of your forces. I, on the other hand, appear to have much to learn. Once this battle is done, I hope that I can get a rematch! :)

Ok, let's talk after this game, we'll discuss what you could have done differently before going at it again.

The slaughter continues for another turn. The fourth Jagdpanther (I knew the other one wasn't the last, I was short one wreck;) )
is destroyed, as is another PzIV as the crew is spotted trying to get it going again.
A lone Stug (everyone else has run off) bravely tries to hold his position, taking down as many americans as it can, before being destroyed by a bazooka shot.

Your turn.

Well, here are some observations I can make right now about what I think I need to change:

1. More recon forces, backed up by plenty of smoke.

2. Be far more carefull when advancing AFVs. Make sure I know what they are getting into before they charge in.

3. Losing a flock of motorcycle units is better than a flock of AFVs.

4. Interlocking fields of fire are good! :D

5. A couple of well placed AT guns can work havoc on your enemy's advance. (I learned that lesson the hard way!)

Anyhow, those are a few things I think I've learned in this battle.

All good points. You also need to get more use out of your artillery, although this could be caused by units not being in contact or just not very accurate. Frankly, I'm a bit surprised my 3" platoon is still there in pristine condition. Surely you have figured out where they are by now. And if you haven't you should be shelling the crap out of the paratroopers in the middle ;)

On AFVs: Why even bother advancing? You've got 4 out of 5 objectives, so there's no need to. Just find some nice overwatch positions and wait for the Shermans to come looking for you.
This is especially true for the Jagdpanther. While on paper it looks like the offspring of Germany's two best tanks, in reality it is best treated as a mobile 88 AT.

Anyway, back to the game...
More Stugs are spotted approaching the front, one of them is destroyed after several shots by the Shermans from the north.
More infantry killed on the central hill as the US paratroopers advance.
The Germans start to show signs of desperation in the south, like using SP mortars as AT guns.
They'd be more useful providing cover for your panzerfaust equipped infantry. What's keeping that third mech plt anyway? :D

Sorry it took so long to post my next turn. An old back injury had me side-lined for a while at a friend's house.

Anyway, yes, I did take a while to locate your 3 inch guns. None of my units have managed to set eyes on 'em before being dispatched by them.

I've been shelling the grave yard, or trying to. I seem to have artillery crews sellected for their bad eyesight. :D

In what may be my KG's last hurrah, my two remaining AFV units, two Stug42s, managed to take out an M4.

Oh, I forgot my infantry! The units that remain are heavily surpressed, and don't seem to want to rally.

Neve mind the delay, the board's been down most of the weekend anyway. Hope you're feeling better.

BTW, you don't have to atually see the ATguns to know where they are. Using the zoom button and messing about with the delay settings in the preference screen (these can be changed during the game) will often let you see whih he the fire is coming from. Better still is using units that will be seen, but not shot at, to zero in on them. MC squads are good for this. Careful use of smoke and maneuver and looking where you units are spotted will let you sometimes determine where an enemy unit must be.
Of course, all this is moot if you arty can't hit the hexes you want them to.

Anyway, US forces are busy mopping up in the south, wiping out some crew and infantry units. Three armed HTs are also destroyed. (one flak, one mortar, one gun)
Still some German infantry left in the middle, as well as another SP mortar and three Stugs. Your deception almost worked; if it weren't for a lucky recon jeep, you might have ambushed a few more Shermans with that last one.

Your turn

Ah, yes! The third Stug. I forgot about him. :D

Your jeep held up to a direct hit by Nbwfer from one of my Stugs. I'm very impressed!

With a mighty roar of engines, the Americans launch an all out counteroffensive, destroying the five remaining German vehicles and killing scores of infantry.
In the north, sgt Millis earns a medal by single handedly wiping out the German HQ after his recon team is ambushed.

BTW, any ideas on what sort of rematch you want?
If you like, I wouldn't mind playing one of the 'second rate' armies again.

What little remains of my KG has surrendered. Here are the final turn files with the tally, should you want to savour your victory. I hope to make things a bit more interesting next time! :D

Here you go.
June 1940 Britain vs Germany, 4000 points, medium map, 10% arty, two airstrikes.

There's a fair amount of AT and AA guns on the Brittish side of the board, so be a bit more careful this time ;)
You might consider saving some money on halftracks and spending it on other stuff, like recon or 88s. Could be useful when you bump into mathildas...

Interesting start:
a FW-189Uhu bombs a hill in the middle of the map and gets subsequently shot down. However the pilot manages to crash right on top of a platoon HQ, scoring the first 5 casualties.
German 150mm fire adds a couple more.
Nothing more to report.

I spotted a lot more; PzII, PZIII, Stugs, 88AT (hope you bought transports), cavalry...
Nice mix.

I think I need to contact the Wermacht medical corps to have my troops' eyes examined. It is not a little disconcerting that your forces have seen so much of my force, and my units have only spotted one Dingo scout car from your's this turn.

(Transports? Uh, yeah! I've got transports.) :D

Something's amiss here. My troops are in the same pos as at the start of the previous turn. Did see a Stug fire in the eplay, however

Would you mind downloading and playing the previous turn again? It could be you exited the game too quickly after finishing you turn.

As for the spotting, it works like this: I move some cars forward to take a look, then move them back again. I may or may not drop of some recon teams from some cars. Usually the cars just get shot at, or a * on their stats and the recon has to do the actual spotting. But with the enemy charging across open terrain, everyone can see what's coming...

This should do the trick. I waited about 2 minutes after the game was 'saved' before shutting SP:WaW down. (Btw, how long should I wait before quitting SP:WaW? Usually I wait arount 10 or 15 seconds. Obviously, this may not be long enough.)

One of my units spotted two of your trucks this time. Got one shot in, but missed by a mile! :D

Hmm still not right, but after checking the timestamps of various files, I think it went wrong at the end of my previous turn.
Didn't replay it, though. Figured it would give me an unfair advantage.
So I just played on. Nothing interesting happened.

Your turn.

We're seeing some of your forces. Spotted a Matilda II, a Crusader, and a truck w. 2 pounder AT gun in the South, and an advanced recon Mk VI with a scout patrol out ahead.

One of my Pz IIs received fire from one of your 40mm flak units, but was undamaged. It managed to destroy one Chevrolet WA truck. That's about it for my turn.

That PzII is destroyed on the second attempt.
One of you PzIIIs in the south gets shot at, but those 2pder guns don't hit very often. Doesn't matter much when you bring enough of them...
Now, what are you going to do about my recon, with all those guns lurking nearby? Do you really want to send in that Stug?

The recon force that my Stug discovered died with their boots on. Those Mk. VIs sure blow up real good! :D

My forces spotted a whole flock of those 2 pounder ATs. Thankfully, they aren't much good against cavalry or infantry.

Three Mk. VIs, one Dingo Scout Car, and several casualties to your 2 pounder crews for my forces this turn. Your 40mm plugged away at another Pz II, and missed.

Spotted a Matilda II also in the South. I don't suppose that's the only one you have?

Hmm, 2pders seem unusually lame, probably because they can't get in cover quickly enough. Once spotted they're easily suppressed or even routed.
Fortunately the 40mm seem to be making up for it, a Stug is destroyed and a PzIII decrewed in the south.
Things aren't going so well in the north, German armor supported by SS troops are threatening to break the Brittish flank.

You learn quickly ;)

Another decent turn. One more Mk. VI up in smoke! A couple more 2 pounder crews set to their heels. One of my panzers even managed to smoke one of your matildas!

Btw, thanks for the compliment. I had a good teacher. :D

Couple more of your Panzers destroyed and damaged, but it doesn't seem to slow the Germans much.
the north flank is definitely in trouble now, with Stugs and PzIIIs steamrolling the Brittish AT guns. And just as I was thinking I was still doing ok in the south, the Luftwaffe shows up again, taking out some 2pders that hadn't been spotted yet
Guess I'll have to work a lot harder to win this one
