Any thoughts why rader has so many units broken down??

As far as I know, all its doing is increasing the unit count, great masirovska until they start getting bombed.

I also believe that it hurts in combat in that larger units get hurt slower.

As to the result of the Invasion, IMVHO, You will get ashore, I dont think the IJA is strong enough to kick you out, or that you will be strong enough to move further than the northern end of Honshu.

Dont listen to any of those Rebel dudes, they think Gettysburg and Sharpsburg were succesful invasions!

This may look a lot like Sharpsburg. 2 heavyweights standing toe to toe just slugging it out with lots of damage. This is going to be a big furball. lots of sunk ships me thinks, and the big ones!

At least if not one of the most recent beta patches changed anything, breakdown of units have at least the following effect:

Advantage:
- Faster replacements (as every part drawns own replacements (I tripple checked that with tracker and at least with the m patches it still worked that way (3x the replacements)))
- Faster recovery of disabled squads (but i am no longer sure if that works any more. At least in the recent betas it seems that the /A recovers the most. I did not check if the actual recovery is still higher than without splitting.)

Disadvantage:
- Easier to kill and disabled the parts than if combined into a division during combat. For some "strange" reason small units tend to be hit with highes priority during combat. Might have changed. Conducted a test some time ago with 3 divisions and 3 bdes defending a base. After some combat rounds without retreating the 3 bdes where almost killed and the divisions only suffered around 15 disabled squads each.

Here we are guys...our shippings have been ordered to leave Bihoro...tomorrow we'll hit the shores of Kushiro, under the greatest CAP Umbrella the allies have ever had...We'll also bomb Ominato to keep the AF closed and Hacinoe, to disable some more of those pesky CD guns...so in 4 days (2 turns) we'll know the fate of the greatest landing operation ever tried in human history...

Valar Morghulis, indeed, Ser Greyjoy.......but, first the LYBs and then, decades later, quietly asleep in our beds, we will join them with a sadistic sneer on our faces. Where ever we go, when the vanquished LYBs see us approaching, they shall run for the deepest depths of hell to escape thy fearful symestry.

Forward...... to glory!

[Hands rubbed to the bone in anticipation.] It hurts to see those DMSs get expended like that. Like beppi said, use some of your YMSs.

Speaking of YMSs, on Korean cable a couple of months ago "YMS-504 of the Navy" was playing, so I had to watch. It's a 1963 Korean flick with horrible special and sound effects, but kinda cool nevertheless to see one of those tubs in action, firing that 20 mike mike against the evil North Korean patrol boat. I suppose at the time of the Korean War it was one of the top fleet units of ROKN.

Back to topic, I would not bet against GreyJoy at this point. I think he'll succeed and even eventually take Tokyo if we get that far (think Inchon-like invasion behind the huge wall in the north).

Cheers,
CC

Let loose the 75th Squadron and the enemy will crumble! Then home for tea and bickies (or a beer or two).

heh, i'm currently reading a rather good book by David Fischer, "Washington's Crossing", where the author expands the military maxim "plans don't survive 1st contact w/ the enemy" to include "nor do they survive 1st contact w/ one's friends." Also, teh weather will screw you every time.

GW committed his troops to a surprise crossing of the Delaware at Trenton, while of his 2nd & 3rd guys (MGENs Lee & Gates, one had just been captured & t'other was busy moaning to Congress. GW planned 3 add'l crossings further down the Delaware to pin enemy forces, 2-1/2 of those were defeated by local weather.

so, GW had to push forward w/ what he had under his immediate control, the watchword was 'Victory or Death'.

fortunately for us here in the commentariat, ser GJ need not worry 'bout his friends diverting his attack or back-stabbing him in the cellblocks of the Pentagon planning-dungeons!

The man has assembled his bestest shot & is committed to his objective - let's roll!

(damn this'll be fun to watch)

i hope GJ will post full combat-reports - i want to savor every moment of what i expect will be a full (but hard-fought) allied victory.

Valar Morghulis!

Sometimes I have to pinch myself to remember it is still 1944 and you are about to invade Honshu!! Fingers crossed GreyJoy whatever happens it has been a great ride.

I'm guessing you don't have much left in the other areas of the map it might still be a good idea to push in his perimeter as it should be fairly weak and it might just distract him.

I also still think it is worth you taking Wake and Marcus Islands as these would radically increase your search cover in the North Pacific and help detect KB raids.

Good Luck!

Oh I agree. you could bomb him to death but whats the point? Frankly, if the whole thing fails you can still bomb him to death. I just don't know what we are all going to do when this game is over. Better we have Götterdämmerung ,then to be the test bed for fighter escort tweaks. To paraphrase The Princess Bride : "Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya, you sunk my escort carriers, prepare to die!"

Yeah! Take it to a duel with him in front of the Imperial Palace with a US cavalry saber!

Personally I think Greyjoy will succeed, I know I may have near no or no ability to do so for this game but I like to make guesses. :) I didn't think so at first, but if he has 180 batallions I think he can at least manage to get a hold in the north, but that it will be many months before he breaks out. The Japanese have a mighty airforce and navy left, but I think Greyjoy will manage because his airforce and navy are strong enough to secure the passage of a sufficient number of units and disrupt the counterattacks as much as his invasion force is disrupted.

I think it is over when GJ gets the second port. Once it becomes more than a single point defense the situation becomes impossible for Rader. His navy will be mostly gone, his airfoce will have to defend too many places. It will have to attack Navys, ground troops, airfileds, provide CAP and all the while defending industry against an air force that is getting closer and closer. Even if the invasion fails GJ can go back to bombing. The only way he can lose is for the invasion to fail and he losses all his carriers and with that the ability to supply and defend what he already has. Should be a hell of a ride though

You know if you were Rader you could almost get sigint from Greyjoys AAR by tracking the rate that it accumulates posts. Nothing specific but sudden spurt indicates something is about to happen.

Or something should happen [bomb airfields, air production, manpower etc ]... or shoudn't happen [like the avitar produced quite a bit of traffic something akin to the chatter produced in the United States around Patton slapping a soldier .. ]

When I was involved in my WitP game with John III, and the great Allied 1943 invasion of Hokkaido was on the way to the beaches, I specifically asked people not to post in my AAR so that John wouldn't notice a sudden increase in traffic and interest. The good folks of the forum obliged completely.

Unfortunately not..she's fat, short with thin painted fake-red hair and in her middle 50s...but in springtime 2012, if things keep on going smoothly, i may be able to get a personal secretary (the one we have now "belongs" to the firm)...and boy, you can bet your life insurance that i'll take a young girl (probably 20 or something like that), stupid enough and damned good looking..."fresh meat" so to say...you know those who still have their small, little, fresh tits that look "up"...those who smell of youthness and innocence...with shining white teeth...skin of ivory....

...i've been studying my whole life to get to the point where you can say "Miss Priscilla (she needs to have a name like that), would you mind passing me the folder of the case of "mr brown"...yes, that one...right down there...on the lowest ancon in front of my desk...oh yes, don't worry i understand it's difficult to bend your knees with that skinny-mini-skirt...don't worry...i won't look"
