hi Larry, i've only played as Allies vs. the Japanese AI, but here's my advice fwiw: this is a strategic-level game, treat it as such! Once you get started on play, it's natural you might get focused on current combat ops, & neglect your rear-area forces. Don't fall into this trap, this game is a long chess-match. Don't hit the 'play' button prematurely, that is, don't put off 'til tomorrow the things you need to do today: a) train pilots! make your own schedule, and troll thru your rear-area groups for high-skill pilots (send them to the reserve pool, then access front-line groups & transfer the high-skill pilots. Similarly, send low-skill pilots from your front-line groups back to rear-area groups, where they can improve in training). b) assign leaders! there's a thread here http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=2350193 for tips on how to use your leaders most effectively. c) assign LCU objectives, esp. for amph. assault units. It's useless to amph-assault a heavily-defended objective w/ LCUs that are less that 100% prepared - you must decide on objectives early in the game, since it'll take 70+ days for an LCU to reach 100% readiness. d) make the best possible use of your support LCUs. You've got army, navy & air support, you've also got Engineer units that are essential to base repair & expansion. e) and all your units need supplies, which must be delivered to your bases by adequately-defended trans or amph TFs. best regards!
