Increase in ground hits seems strange as bombing hasn't been touched yet.

Maybe he is referring to the fact that now you can see "damaged" planes, which you introduced about 10 versions back?

Are you sure the ASW range circle is working? I'm using Beta r1 and my Avenger unit in Noumea is set to ASW at a range of 4 hexes. This should show up with a range circle of 2, no? (ASW range is 1/2 of range set). Seems to work fine with my Wirraway unit in Perth and my Vincent unit in Auckland. Only difference with them is the Avenger unit is using the full circle. Perhaps it works when you set search arcs and not when you use the full circle?

Here's the image.

latest beta, I was trying to withdraw one of those US P-40E units that show up in Australia in early 42, to be withdrawn by 15th March 42 and when I try to withdraw it in early Feb it says "return all pilots and planes to the pool" and when you click YES the aircraft are actually destroyed and all show up as op losses instead of going to the pool. Don´t know about the pilots. Is this working correctly? If so, then the message you get before choosing YES/NO is wrong.

Just a note on night bombing, in my game with Terry the night raids with the new update actually came in packets as opposed to 100% on time over target. Feels better.

One thing I have found is that airborne search radar is not being checked before the planes are spotted, but is used in the actual plane-to-plane combat.
Logically, if planes have no radar and no detection from the ground, then actual interception should be less likely.
The reason I noticed this is that there is a slot to record the air radar device of the defenders, but in the few night combats in this save, there was no value stored there.

I have added a simple check for radar in the CAP or raid being detected in this build. It should lower the odds that CAP without some radar assistance will engage raid. NF or a/c with air radar should do better at intercepting raids than those without.

I notice almost no Jap planes have radar and allies mostly much later - but above you mention and imply that NF having a better chance ( at night) than non NF be used in a second role - please clarify ?

Thanks CAV

Actually, the fixes being tested still kill a lot of SEFs in the air if they encounter HBs. On the other hand, it helps make up for the Nate-like characteristics of F4F-4s.

Totally agree with this approach but I predict with a confidence factor of 99% that when players experience even less effective night CAP there will be howls of protest. Stand firm against the inevitable howls of protest. If, and that is a very big if, there will subsequently be a need to tweek the effect of night bombing after the above change, the area to be investigated should be to make bombers without radar less effective in night bombing, rather than making day fighters without radar the equal of night fighters who do have radar installed.

Alfred

Only the very last Jap NFs have radar !! I agree with all your comments but NF without radar should still have good chances as this is what specific NF units were trained for , I would have thought?

The moon is also being accounted for .. have we completly tested this change? That is flown a mission with zero moonlight and one with 100%? Also Michalm stated that skill was involved .. is there is specific Night Fighter skill that is assigned with the plane? [not a trainable skill]

NF skill - I am also waiting on this.
One would think that planes that are NF would be eligable but lets see.
If there is then Japan needs the NF units very much so worth building them but if not night interception of allied night attacks will be worse than ever. Only the allies get NF with radar at times when it will be of some use.

There is though the issue of the oter aspects of night bombing being reduced.

When Michael wrote "skills" I'm pretty sure he meant the existing relevant skills, i.e. Air to air, Ground bombing, Defensive, etc.

A NF with no radar is treated as if it had 'some sort of radar' in order for it to get some "action".

I thought I understood air base administration. Either I don't or there's a bug.

Tabiteuea has currently got a base admin of 15 (see pic). USN AIRCENPAC is based at Tabiteuea and has a command rating of 5. To my mind this should result it a base admin of 11.

Arorae (5 a/b and 3 hex in range or the HQ) should be 10 and is 14, Funuafuti (3a/b and 13 hex out of range) should be 3 and is 7. No other air HQ is with range of either.

Going north Abemama (5 a/b and 4 hex range in range ) has the VIIUS BMB CMD base there and should be 10 but is 14. Tawaw and other base are also wrong.

Not sure when this happened but I think it's recent.

Michael ,

OK thanks for the clarification - So all planes designated as "NF" in the data base when flying at night will have some advantage. Good, this means all NF are now important in the game and should be produced - thanks.

Has anyone had this issue with the Beta?

In PH, when I open the ship repair screen, changing the repair status of the ships is taking a long time. I would say that it takes > 20 seconds for each change to register after clicking on it. I'm only seeing this at Pearl (12/19/41 right now). I think was two updates ago since I've had this problem.

Other than that, it's been great.

On my PC when I open a page or aircraft it jumps to another , or another screen etc and you have to flip back. It gets quite annoying at times.

Is this known about? Does anyone else have this issue?

Yes. a long time intermittent issue. Close and restart. Usually goes away.

PS: better with the beta's. I don't see it nearly as often as with the last officical patch. I think Michael has fixed some of the causes.
