The lines on the South Front move steadily forward. Kharkov was tempting, having only 9 factors defending, but I chose to hit Stalino with everything I could, leaving nothing spectacular available for other attacks. That's what I get for losing the use of 2 ARM in the middle of the summer.

In the Crimea, I shifted slightly. I think they call this the ameoba attack? Sort of.

USSR is going to need to risk a blitz or two to stop the grey tide this summer.

Before I found Commonwealth was the harder to play. Recently i changed my mind. USSR is the hardest when Barbarossa falls on you, your heart stop beating .

If your defense is not good, you are as good as beaten. There is not much forgiveness for USSR in WiF.

In the south the German forces still haven't got planes available if I'm not mistaken. So if there is a opportunity for an attack, it is probably there. However, I don't see exactly if there are any weak stacks there. In the north, the situation is not that good.
I see however a couple of attacks coming. I hope Orm sees it too...

It is time for some desperate attacks. Maybe to desperate ones...

Here is the attack I make on the Murmansk front.

And a couple of attacks to the north.

Edit: The attack close to Leningrad is a 11-2 attack before air support. The one near Kalinin is 43-7.

And when I make so many risky attacks I can do one more. i can't fail them all. At least that is what I tell myself.

Edit: And this attack is 46-9.

Since the hour is well past midnight here and I have to get up early today I will continue this tommorow evening (today actually). Not that it will take that long to finnish this impulse but making the pictures do. Now it is time for me to hit the bed.

I know.

The air combat close to Kalinin was a mixed blessing. My fighters managed to abort the bombers giving German ground support but was shot down themself. At least my pilots survived.

Bah! I forgot that pesky long range Condor. I doubt if I would have made this attack if I remembered it. At least it is a forrest hex so that their ground support is halved.

That's okay, Orm. I didn't even see the attack near Murmansk when you asked me about it what I wanted to do for Ground Support!

On this attack I missed the fractional roll but since I was lucky to roll a 10 (assault) so it didn't matter at all. Complete success and I advance into the combat hex with one army.

On the Murmansk front the the fractional odds roll was successful and I rolled a 2 modified to a 3 on the 3 to 1 blitz table causing both units to die.

On this attack the fractional odds was unsuccessful. But the 6 to 1 blitz table is an awesome attack table anyway. I am so fortunate that the German ground support got aborted. I rolled a 10 on the attack and not that I complain but I feel that this was a wasted 10.

I decide not to advance into the combat hex.

And yet another failed fractional odds die roll. But I roll a modified 8 on the 5-1 blitz table and that is just what I need for the attack to destroy both the defenders. For the first time in this game I am glad that we play with the blitz bonus optional rule.

After some pondering I decide to just advance into the combat hex. Doing a overrun on the AT unit or the bomber and destroy them was very tempting. But I do not like to expose my armor in those hexes so I restrain myself. It can be a very long turn after all and I might need those armor...

Don't be fooled by Orm! I have this funny feeling he expects the turn to end soon . . . he's freeing up space in Leningrad and Sevastapol for reinforcements. Unfortunately, the attack near Leningrad means I have to pull back at least a few troops to guard Pskov and maybe even the Baltic States. Just when you think you are on top of the world, some fella with a good plan shows you that you aren't!

I actually used up 2 of my 3 rail moves to ship the 5th Mountain Division from Stalino to Pskov and the XLIX Mountain Corps from Berdiansk to Estonia.

Hmm. There is a lot to think about. I've got a lot of attacks I'd love to make, some quite risky, but I really need to plan for it. Disaster would be, well, a disaster. I hope to have this decided tonight, but probably will end up leaving you on a hook again (if Orm needs to make any decisions). Sorry, all.

Orm: well done. A little luck on you're side of course, but it looks quite different now that the German airforce isn't again capable of ground striking you're units. Off course, you will be attacked somewhere, but it looks like you're at least giving the Germans something to think about... You're taking a little of the initiative in you're hands and if you can get the enemy to react on your moves, you're doing good...
However, for the Russians, I hope the turn ends soon. Well: first there are some German counterattacks coming... Go get them! Red Prince...

When you are putting in Defensive/Offensive Ground Support is there a list that pops up with all planes that reach the hex?

Yes. This image shows the upper-left corner of my screen, where the Selectable Units form shows the 2FTR that I can use for Ground Support duty this impulse. If I click on the space to the right of a FTR, it centers the main detailed map on that FTR. If I click on the FTR itself, I "pick up" the FTR and can move it to a target hex.
