Only have the combat replay for this turn till tomorrow.

11th June

KB unknown
MKB unknown

Cyleon
We hit a sub 3 times no critical or major hits.

Burma
The Japs bomb our Rangoon forces moving towards Akyab. We damage over 30 planes by AA.

Pago Pago
A Jap sub takes 3 light hits. Later another sub(or same not for sure will have to rewatch the replay) took 11 hits with heavy damage 2 critical hits severe engine damage with lots of flooding messages.

Luganville
2 waves of Nells come in or an attack. Our fighters shoot down atleast 12 of them, they didn't even make it to attack my TFs.

Kendri
DD sent in ahead of my bombardment TF scares away the ASW TF, then meets a Jap SAG on the way out. 1 BB and a bunch of DDs. Oh crap. The lone DD stood her ground and hit a Jap BB. There was a CL in this but it was TTed by a Jap sub yesterday. Next came our Bombardment group with 3 CAs and 3DDs. They suprise the Jap SAG. At the end of the battle. 3 Jap DDs sunk 2 on fire with the BB taking a deck armor hit from the CA San Fran. San Fran takes 4 hits, CA Canberra takes 2 hits as does 2 DDs.

Our CV TF runs into a lone DD. It is pummeled by our CV TF. Even the CVs put some rounds into her. One CV takes a deck armor hit.

Off Hawaii the CA that was hit by a Jap TT was sunk by the same sub.

Koniu stated in his email. More British carriers sailing to meet there destination in the Timor sea area.  Today was a bloody day on the sea  but not as bloody as the next few.  Hmm Maybe he has some carriers in the area.

This SAG seems wierd to me.  Lots of DDs with only one capital ship.  What is its mission?

So what are his next moves.  Will he send the SAG out to look for my TFs?  Is there a CV TF close by?

Should I withdraw my TFs back to safer waters?  Hmmm things to think about tonite before I get the turn back.

Interesting day.  Why was it interesting you ask.  I will tell you why.  Not one attack by the Japanese.  No not one no bombings, sweeps, bombardments or anything.

14th June

KB unknown
MKB unknown

Our ASW attacked 6 different times this turn. 5 of the getting hits.  All were light hits.

One of our subs hits an AK with a live TT.

Kendri
AF attack by us.  We destroy 2 Bettys and one recon plane on the ground with 27 runway hits.  Intel says Kendri has 50 runway damage.  Bombers are going in again againist the AF and port.  SAG is missing this turn.

Ambon
Tomorrow troops and supplies will start unloading at Ambon.  Air cover will be provided by Brit CVs and Beau fighters.  I just noticed that Namlea is an AF 2 and its still in our hands.  I am rushing AV support there with supplies to open up another AF to cover our ships.  This base will also provide a base close enough to do sweeps of Kendri if and when Koniu gets it up and running again.

15th June

Starts out with a bang.  Mine explosion.  I think it was one of his subs.

KB unknown refits
MKB unknown

Sydney
Night time ASW hits I 160 and makes her surface.  They fill her full of 5 in rounds.  She sinks

Noumea
We hit another sub light damage.

Bhamo
Japs attack and take this base.  Our forces are retreating.

Kendri
We bomb the AF and find Zeros and Oscars.  4 Zeros and 1 Oscar are ops loses.  3 B17Es are shot down.  A Betty, Mavis, and Nell are destroyed on the ground.  AF has 66 points of damage.  More bombings tomorrow.

Ambon
Amphib TF is there and begining to unload.  Bettys paid a visit but were stopped by our air.  16 Bettys shot down.  4 Mavis's were shot down while scouting.

The BB SAG has been located, a sub patroling off of southern Java found atleast 4 of the DDs.  In the last 2 days we have hit 7 Jap subs with ASW.  I am pretty sure 2 will sink.

Question.  Ambons AF has 11 point damage and 58 service damage with 562 supply.  All LCUs are full supply.  If I move fighters here will they fly?  ALFRED!!!!!!!!

16th June

KB NE Ambon
MKB unknown

Ambon
Bloody Bloody Ambon. Koniu sent in a 3 DD SAG and a 2 BB SAG.  He met our AMc first 36cm round sunk it.  Next the 3 DD SAG ran into our SAG (CL 5 DDs).  They damage 2 DDs.  Next the BB SAG attacks our SAG.  Our SAG stood there ground.  All ships lost, they sink 1 DDs damage 2 more, and a BB with 2 CAs.  The Jap BB SAG keeps rolling tearing into our transports.  Most are sunk during this battle the rest with exception of 3 are sunk by the KB.  DD Norman stood her ground she deals out alot of pain.  She sinks 2 DDs damages3 other DDs.  A Jap CA was missing from this battle.  Hmmm fell out I guess.  Don't think it sunk. KB launches its planes finds our CVs.  HMS Illustrious takes a TT but has only light damage, HMS Indomitable takes 3 TTs and several bomb hits (15/64/32/0) and is down to 7 Knots.  Our CVs strayed from the hex they were suppose to stay in.  If they would of stayed put they wouldn't of been attacked due to thunderstorms.  We did get one look at the Akagi but missed.  BB Ise took 2  500lbers,  BB Yamashira took 3 hits and was last seen on fire.   Most of the troops were unloaded the only things lost were some guns, motor support, and supply.  13 Marlets, 11 Swordfish, 7 Fulmars, 4 Beau fighters, 2 Sea hurricanes.  Japs lost 11 Vals, 11 Zeros, 10 Kates.

I figured this would happen but had to make my move.  One more day and I would of been out of there.  Interesting day.  I was very happy with my ships they stood their ground.

Kendri
Bombed again.  Intel says 63 damage with 4 port damage.  We sink an AKL in port.

Rangoon
We bombed it 64 runway hits. with 2 planes torched on the ground.

Long Long turn 30min combat replay.  I have more transports coming into the AO soon.  I will need to redirect some more combat ships into the area.  I need to get some fighters above the HMS Indomitable.

I count about 20 Jap DDs sunk.  That should be about 10% of his DD forces gone.  If I can keep him from reinforceing and resupplying Ambon.  His forces here are in trouble. I also count around 15 subs sunk.  I need to get sub attacks on his carriers.

You rrranggg?

It depends on the size of the airfield and the type of mission to be flown. See 9.4.1 of the manual.

1. CAP and Patrol missions will be flown when runway damage is less than 50 + (airfield size * 5)
2. Strike missions will be flown when runway damage is less than 20 + (airfield size * 5)

Therefore at a size 1 airfield CAP will fly if runway damage is less than 55. If the airfield is size 6, CAP will fly if the runway damage is less than 80.

Airfield service damage primarily affects the maintenance of aircraft and pilot morale. It really impacts upon the efficiency level of flight operations, not whether they can actually occur.

That explains the intense air cover Terry has been able to mount over the Shortlands. Joe, I wish I had contested further forward early in '42 (and operated my carriers with a better eye) as you have. As a strategy, I would have liked to have secured and built Taberfane while occupying the IJN with Ambon. I may have been able to do the same on Timor while the fighting on Java played out. I do not think Japan could invest so much in Burma and the Solomons with such a nearby threat in the southern rim of the DEI. The Japanese may have been tempted/forced to deploy the Kido Butai in DEI more often or better split it up enabling a quicker foothold in CenPac and rapid envelopement of Rabaul and New Guinea.

KB ?
MKB ?

I got carriers east of Kendri.  It seems short a few carriers to be the KB.

China
Small air battle.  We each lose 1 AC.

Moulmein
We send in some 2Es on Low Nav.  We bag 4 AKs for the price of 2 bombers.

Not much else happened this turn.

KB off Ambon
MKB unknown

Ambon
Japs are reinforceing or resupplying.  KB is present with SAGs.  I've had a lot of subs launch TTs at DDs all missed.  We lost 2 AVDs and an AK in this AO. I hate loseing those AVDs.  I missed a chance to cut down alot of the Jap CV bombers.  I didn't have any CAP up over my bases and they came in unescorted.  Dang it.  Bombers will launch on Nav strike tom.

Changsha
Big air battle.  28 Oscar Ic's are lost compared to 10 P40E's and 3 P39's.

Thoughts about Ambon
Maybe he will withdraw his troops doubt it.  I want to take some shots at his TFs.  So Low Nav bombers will go after them.  I have DBs in reserve.  All I can do is wait and see what happens.  I am going to go after Ndeni.  Maybe this will force him to move his carriers or his focus.  If that dosen't work I have one more trick in my book.  But it will take some time to get this op going.  Ships are being used for other operations.  Also Jap Carriers are due for upgrades soon.  What will he do?

Ndeni
I am ready to move here but, I smell a trap.  Don't know where the MKB is.  So I am putting a hold on the invasion.

KB Banda Sea
MKB unknown

Mixed turn.

Saumlaki
5 APDs carrying an IF Bn got caught by the KB.  All sunk.  That hurts.  Koniu pulled his ships out from here the turn before but the returned with more troops and supplies.  Our CD guns tear into 1 AK with 6, 6 in rounds. They also hit 2 more AKs.  The bombardment TF sinks a crippled CL and an AMc in the harbor.

Java
A Dutch sub gets D/Ced by a few Jap DDs.  Questionable if she will make it to port.  AKs were with this TFs.  Hmm what are they carrying?

Hankow
We send in 2 squadrons of 2Es to bomb the AF.  21 Sallys, 15 Lillys, 8 Oscars are torched ont he ground with 23 runway hits.  Koniu was kinda mad about this.  There was no CAP either.

Thoughts and Plans

Ambon AO
This is my Guadalcanal.  Ambon is a pain in my rear to supply and keep mine.  Now add Saumlaki.  But Saumlaki will be a pain for him also.  The good thing about his AO is that I have tied up alot of his assests.  KB, bunch of capital ships, multiple IDs and planes.   I will prob lose Saumlaki, but I should be able to recapture it.  Once that is done, I will move on and occupy some of the empty Dutch bases around that area.

CBI
I see that the Japs are still moving to Myithikia (sp) and the hex to the left of it.  I need to stop them.  I don't have many infantry units in this area to stop him so I need to make what I have count.  I know he should have some good trained pilots in his reserves.  Recently I have seen him taking some beatings in the air.  I am still flying the same planes with the same pilots that I did at the begining of the war againist the same planes.  I am now inflicting more loses on him.  I am thinking that I have better pilots now.

Ndeni
I have troops ready and on ships to invade here.  I feel a trap.  He has 3 subs in the hex waiting on me.

KB is due for upgrades.  He will have to go in for upgrades or miss them.  If my plans go right.  I have an operation planned but it will take a while to get it up and going.

I think you are still supposed to be able to create them from TFs, but I always do it from the base screen myself.

Dutch sub sights and launches TTs at Soryu.  They miss, but I am still happy. We sighted and attacked a Jap carrier.

Saumlaki
Forgot to turn off 2 DB squadrons from nav attack.  They go in without escorts and get mauled.  14 Vindicators and 10 Banshees are lost. Ouch.  They miss their targets.  Japs shock attack and take Saumlaki.

China
Interesting.  Japs delib attack get a 10-1 odds.  They lose almost 3k worth of men to our 2k.  He has a bunch of LCUs tied uptrying to keep my men at Kukong.   I am looking for places that I can launch a counter strike.  Maybe up north.

Kukong
Koniu has 3 IDs and 6 arty battalions here.  Another 5 IDs and a Bde up noth blocking the road.   I think he has atleast 2 more IDs in blocking positions around Kukong.

Shanghai
Wellingtons go in on port attack.  Bomber pilots say they sunk 2 PBs, SC, , ACM, and heavily damage 2 AKs, 3 CMs, ACM and a CMc. Maurders also hit the port but dosen't damage any ships.

Ndeni
ASW tag an I boat 9 hits atleast 1 critical.  Only ship listed on my sunk ships list.  The list only went up by one ship.  Hmm did I not sink any of the hips from Shanghai?  Invasion of Ndeni has started.  Almost 200 AV has landed.  No automatic arty attacks at the end of the turn.  HMM  What forces are here?  Intel says 2,680 troops with 25 guns reported.  I haven't decided if I will attack tomorrow or not.

Burma
The retreated Rangoon forces move into one of the wooded hexs south of Akyab with a yellow road.  It is occupied by atleat a Jap Div.  They are stuck again.  I am moving forces from Akyab to help open the door to the hex, so they can retreat.

Northern Burma
Japs are still moving towards Mytkyina.  I just got an Oz ID there with 2 Bdes behind 3 forts.  Should be a rude river crossing.  Screen says 31,920 men 250 guns and 450 AFVs are in this group of 9 units.  They are headed towards Mytkyina and the hex to the left.  I am trying to move troops to the hex to the left.

Just the combat replay.

KB Banda Sea
MKB Solomons

Ndeni
Early in the morning a Jap SAG came into view of the American SAG.  The lookout on the USS Phoenix "yell Jap battleship"  CPT Frederick gave the order to steam straight towards the Jap fleet.  the message went out to the all ships.  At 26,000 yards Phoenix had a fireing solution on CL Kiso, the first salvo hit its mark.  Phoenix engaged multiple Jap ships before the other ships opened up.  CA New Orleans opened fired on BB Fuso who had been hit by the Phoenix twice already.  Both TFs battled it out getting as close as 9,000 yards when a TT from DD John Edwards hit DD Karakuya and sunk it.   After 2 hours of battleing each other the TFs break off.  BB Fuso took 9 hits, CL Yara took 4 hits, CL kiso 3 hits and was seen on fire, DDs Hasu 2 hits and DD Kari took only 1 hit.  New Orleans took 3 hits, Phoenix took 11 and had heavy fires, and DD John Edwards to 2 hits with heavy fires.

Upon hearing the message of a Jap battle fleet.  B 26s took off from Luganville to attack the remaining ships.  They were met by Jap Zeros, initial reports say that 1 F4F3A was shot down with 2 B 26s for 1 Zero.  Maruders did not score any hits.  Then the carriers launched their strike package.  4 Zeros are shot down with 1 F4F3 wildcat lost and a SBD-2 damaged.  Fuso took 12 1,000 pounders and was left with heavy fires.  CL Kiso was hit by 5 1,000 pounders last seen with heavy fires and heavy damage.  DD Kari took 1 1,000 pounder and had heavy fires.  A DD yugao was sighted with heavy fires and heavy damage could this bee CL Yaru.

MGEN Dawley rallied his men and attacked the Naval guards unit and its supporting Eng unit and took the island.  1,800 Japanese soldiers are killed for 17 of ours.

I think the MKB was off Lugna providing CAP for the Jap SAG.  I might try and send my carriers againist it.

China
Wooded hex north of Kukong, Japs delib attack our 3 Chinese units.  They lose 2,000 men to our 1,140.

Some sub actions here an there.  More when I get the turn.

CL Phoenix is hit by 3 Jap sub TTs and goes down.  2 DDs and a DM find one of the wounded Jap CLs they put 3 rounds into her she puts one into the DM.  These same ships also find Fuso and put 5 shells into her.  Base forces and Engs will land tonite.  Japs are picking off all the empty bases in this area.

Carines
Jap sub surfaces and tears into an xAKL.

Lautem
Bombarded from sea.

Lomblen
I sent the wounded CL Glasgow here to die.  Well I was pleasantly surprised.  She ran into an amphib TF that was parked there.  3 DDs in escort with 4 xAKs.  Glasgow tears into the TF.  1 DD on fire, another with fires and heavy damage, another with heavy fires, 2 xAKs with heavy fires and heavy damage, the other 2 were on fire.  Glasgow took 4 hits but is still fighting.

China
Japs attack our units above Kukong.  We suffer almost 3k to there 500.

Burma
Koniu has stopped his troops from marching across the river to Mytkyina (sp).

CL Glasgow finds a PB and puts 3 4in shells and 1 6in shell into her.

Ndeni
Most troops are on the ground.  Fort has went to lv 1.

Slow turn.  Looking thru the sunk ships list.  17 Jap subs sunk, 20 Jap DDs sunk.   Not bad.  I was hopeing for one of those CLs to pop up. Atleast they will be out of the war for awhile.

NorPac
Amchitka
250 AV 6  6in guns, forts 4

Adak
310 AV 16  6in guns, forts 4

This will prob be all I will send to Nor Pac.  I think it can hold its own untill relieved.  I do have units that can deploy here if need be.

Glasgow 83/60 exp

Timor AO
Trying to get more ships, troops, supply into the area before I try to recapture any of the bases.

Northern Burma
He has stopped his troops from marching across the river into N Burma.  9 units with about 27k troops, 230 guns and 240 AFVs.  He has most of his troops to the NW of Burma.  He is either waiting for reinforcements or building up his defenses.  this is fine with me.  I need to get some more troops into position.  NE Burma 18k troops, 120 guns 72 AFV.

China
I got most of his troops tied up in and around Kukong.  175k troops, 1,100 guns, 440 AFVs.

Timor AO
about 4 IDs in the area.

I don't think he has most of his troops in these areas.  So he might be lightly defened in other areas.
