Status: offline 		Zut, alors. Ok, I have a new project going. I got a book contract and need to do some fundamental research. I know roughly where to go, but the sources are in UK and France.

Looking for one of our UK fellows, convenient to London/Greenwich, to do some digging in the NMM archives. I have folio and drawing numbers, so it won’t be a shot in the dark. I will provide a poop load of background material so anyone searching their archives will know exactly what I am looking for, and can converse intelligibly with a NMM Clerk.

Specially looking for one our French fellows. Stuff I really want is in the archives at the Musée National de la Marine in Paris, and at the Service Historique de la Marine archives at Nantes Again, I have collection numbers, folio numbers, and un poopload d’information qui aidera les chercheurs.

If anyone is interested, please send a PM and I will respond with the company email. Really, really want to hear from our French friends. Vraiment, vraiment, comme aurait des nouvelles de nos amis français, sur ce projet.

My father, little brother, and I are building his 4th layout now, and going all out on this... down to every last detail, you name it, and we’ll have it.

We're still blocking off all of the track so that we can run our engines that we have NOT converted to DCC... we have around 100 left to convert... and it's about $15-20 per engine.. And I only have so much time

He models the steam to diesel transition era from when he was growing up in Western Kansas, big territory of the ATSF.... (Now the BNSF to those of you who are curious)... Mainly the old “Zebra” livery…

My rolling stock is basically zero... I switched from N to HO last year, and sold all of my N Scale, so I am starting over in HO... Mainly working on MKT (the ol' Katy), Cotton Belt, ATSF, UP, and then I custom paint a local short line, K&O (Kansas & Oklahoma, who has a nice, very "modelable" yard in McPherson, where we just moved from). My little brother, who is still around working on his masters, models modern era BNSF coal runs from the mountains, and Northern Pacific - Burlington Northern... pre mergers...We're both big James Hill fans...

However, it’s our layout, and if we want to run a modern day auto carrier with a 4-8-8-4… then we can, that is the best thing about it… haha

And yes.. that is little brother in this first clip...

Very cool. Just remember the first rule of model railroading: If you are not having fun, you are not doing it right.

Me, personally, I do a lot of DCC installs and am the leader of Nashville Ntrak (http://www.nashvilentrak.org) and also a member of the Middle Tennessee Modelers (http://www.laslrailroad.net). Yes, that makes me a cross scaler.

I keep all my HO stuff at the club in Nolensville. It is a 5000 square foot steam/diesel transition of the UP from LA to Ogden, UT. We also model the ATSF portion over Cajon Pass and some of the SP where it interacts from LA to San Bernardino. We also have a fictional logging branch for the narrow minded people of our group. It is all DCC, detected on the mains, and signaled.

Our operating sessions consist of 30+ guys (and some young guys) running trains for 3.5-4 hours depending on the day. It is a lot of fun (see the first rule at the top of this post).

Our N scale group does ntrak (http://www.ntrak.org). We participate in layouts all across the mid-continent. We have participated in shows from Milwaukee to Atlanta. We are going to the Worlds Greatest Hobby show in Indianapolis early next month and to Louisville, KY also later that month. We were major participants in the Derby City Express. A record number of modules in one show (700). It was 3/4 of a mile around one time. It took you 4 hours to go around one time. It was all DCC on the outside main. I wish ours was that big... Nasville is huge, McPherson is 13,000 people and Pratt 5,000....ha...and I am not active at all during the week with the MKMR...as we no longer live in McPherson.. what was cool about that though...four railroads served McPherson at once. Missouri Pacific, Rock Island, Union Pacific, and ATSF...A LOT to model...the new layout we're constructing will include all four. Ahh...if only I could do it for a living...but I enjoy trading bulk commodities...

I am putting back up my 4x8 in the sunroom...

When you come to Wichita, if you have time to drive an hour west (or I can come pick you up), I will introduce you to Darrel Brehm... he has over $1,000,000 of inventory in his basement.. it's heaven on earth...he's also the same guy that got bored, bought a caboose, put it on tracks at his farm, and built a layout in that as well... can't make that up!

Most of the stuff I had were bought in Germany, Austria and Italy but some was made locally in company called "Mehanotehnika" in former Yugoslavia (now Slovenia).

My father and I used to build the track on Friday and we finished by Saturday (we build it all over our apartment). On Sunday we had to dismantle it (no room for permanent storage - although at one time we thought about big 4 x 5 meters table suspended on ceiling by pulleys but my mother killed that idea instantly worrying that it might drop on someone incidentally)...

This all was about 30 years ago but I still have all the things safely stored in one big wardrobe (with all my other toys)...
