Well, the sun did actually come up today, and I still have plenty of rum, so I think I'll somehow manage to survive the next 4 years.

Well, welcome to Europe, my friend!

Ha! I don't even have any jet lag.

Beware the taxes!

WTF! What the hell happen last night? No full time work for another four years.

Not to go off on a political track but it sounds like you were expecting to automagically have gainful, full-time employment the morning after Romney got elected?

I dont get it. I just dont. The value of commodities just became less because a bunch of trader dudes didnt like how the election turned out? And our pension funds are directly tied to this?

I received what must be, for you lot, an unusual email from my Homeowner's Association. A schedule for beaver trapping in the ponds around our development. Last year we had information on black bear sightings around the neighborhood.

Probably not much call for getting beaver in Londinium, I'd reckon. After all, you're British.

Beaver, eh?

Couldn't help but think of that line from "Naked Gun":

"Nice Beaver!"
"Thanks, I just had it stuffed."

Something like that. Someone drove into me a few weeks back and it's not an economical repair option. Mrs Dixie has plans for my next sensible car, apparently a 2.5L V6 is not a suitable family car?

US car manufacturers seem to think of that as a small, economical engine...

My half-brother in Germany had this thing called a Ford XMax (iirc). Damn nice family car if you ask me. Big enough that you cant reach back far enough to smack the kids upside the head and small enough to park.

Nein! Nein! And three times Nein! I shall not drive any vehicle of that nature. Anything that looks like a mini-bus is not the transport for me. Looking at something with space for wee man in the back and a smaller engine, a cheeky 1.6L should do me for now.

Ummm...no. Small cars are decidedly compromising of space, ergonomics and-often-collision safety. Important factors for anyone with kids.

Sorry, still dont get it. How did your chances become slimmer? Did Mr. Romney promise you a job in the administration if he got elected? Why would your taxes go up (assuming you didnt suddenly start making significantly more money)?

Its a HUGE car for Germany. My brother called it a "van". My reaction was "dude, you have no idea what a van is, do you"?

Anyone else seen a video with a tank v. tank engagement in the same frame at close range? Pretty incredible footage:

Lets try it this way. Do think my chances got better. Higher taxes more regulations make employers hire? Plus I have farm land. My taxes are going to be less when they increase? Interesting concept you have there my rosy red rat.

True. The last four years have been a tremendous success story!

But dude, what indications (aside from certain news networks) do you have of your taxes going up? If the last 4 years are anything to judge by, absolutely nothing will change in the tax rates simply because no one will let this administration increase taxes on those with an income of $250K+/year and no one would be stupid enough to raise taxes on those with less income without that stipulation. If they do, I'll be protesting in front of the White House right there with you.

And what in the world do regulations have to do with hiring? Theyre just the rules you play by in whatever industry youre in. If I have a manufacturing business and all of a sudden the goobermint tells me to increase my employee safety standards, I will not shut down my business in a huff of annoyance. I'll change my business practices to conform with the regulations just like I've done for every other regulation since I opened my business. Sorry, as a business owner I would not have the luxury of picking and choosing which regulations I abide by based on what administration passed them, which is what seems to be the implication here. Oh, and by the way, if I still need a forklift driver, and you happen to be a driver of forklifts, I'll still hire you.

To put in a nutshell, my friend:

I gave up my profit generating company because of regulations.

WTF! What the hell happen last night? No full time work for another four years.

Not to go off on a political track but it sounds like you were expecting to automagically have gainful, full-time employment the morning after Romney got elected?

No, but my chances became slimmer. And with taxes going up at the end of the year. This does not help.

Sorry, still dont get it. How did your chances become slimmer? Did Mr. Romney promise you a job in the administration if he got elected? Why would your taxes go up (assuming you didnt suddenly start making significantly more money)?

Lets try it this way. Do think my chances got better. Higher taxes more regulations make employers hire? Plus I have farm land. My taxes are going to be less when they increase? Interesting concept you have there my rosy red rat.

Well, you and (according to him, in theory) Bill O'Reilly. The rest of us would suck it up and carry on, I think.
