My lovely bride and I had a fabulous whirlwind trip to Chicago on Friday and Saturday. Got there early on Friday morning and dumped our stuff at the hotel. Took the train into town and spent several hours looking at beautiful paintings at the Art Institute of Chicago. We probably saw about 20% of what is at the Institute and we were already in overload. Strolled around downtown and window shopped a bit, broken up by hanging out for a couple of drinks at the Riverwalk, before heading to Giradano's for some massive and delicious deep dish pizza (and more drinks). Putzed around a bit more and then hopped on the train out to United Center for dinner at the Stadium Club restaurant. We were both still so full from the pizza, but we picked over the buffet and had more drinks. The waitress said they had a live band playing after dinner so we stuck around and checked off one of the top items on my wife's Bucket List as The Rolling Stones took the stage! I have to say my expectations were very high, and they surpassed them by leaps and bounds! They sounded awesome and had tremendous energy, playing for almost 3 hours, and peaking with the encore. The high point for me was the first song of the encore, with a local church choir and a flugelhorn. One of my favorite songs of all time, performed to perfection, by living legends, right in front of me. I actually got quite emotional and choked up a bit. It's true, You Can't Always Get What You Want, but if you try, sometimes, you just might find you get what you need. It was comfortably the best concert event I've ever been to, and I've seen some damned awesome concerts! One of the very best nights that Sara and I have shared.... so far. It was 1:30 AM when the train got us back to the hotel and we both crashed hard after a 22 hour long day. Slept in until 11 the next morning, checked out, and walked to our gate as the hotel was in the airport. More drinks with brunch and home by 6 PM. What a fabulous anniversary celebration 3 weeks after the day.
