We left Coningsby about 1815, a quick jaunt around a few villages in Lincolnshire and then down south. We did a flypast at RAF Benson, followed by two past Boscombe Down. Then back to the Old Country (RAF Brize Norton) for a roller (touch and go if you prefer). Then four passes of somewhere else that I don't know before going back home. All told it was about 2 1/2 hours in the air, and my first experience of airsickness thanks to changing turrets partway through and a lungful of exhaust fumes. The guy I swapped with had the same experience, we were both fine until we changed seats

Speaking of pictures, the house looks great in the photos for the online listing. They already had a For Sale sign up in the yard when I got home. Then, some wind and rain knocked out power to the neighborhood for about 2.5 hours. While it was still out, some people saw the sign and stopped to look around. They called the realtor and he showed them the house with no power. Worked great for us, as it really showed off how much light we have everywhere from being the end unit in a row of townhouses. The house wasn't even fully listed in the realtor network online yet, they just happened to see the sign. Our guy said they seemed very interested and we might actually receive an offer today.

Nicely staged, USS Mike. You done good.

There *is* a curious pattern of dead grass outside the downstairs slider though. Can you think of a reason for such a curious pattern? I think, if memory suits, that you can think of two reasons, eh?

Martin-thanks for the pictures.  Sorry you got airsick, but sounds like a marvelous flight.

I assume you didn't tell the upper class pilots (about your airsickness), lest they lord it over you in perpetuity?

Thanks!

LOL.... yeah, down to only 1 reason now, but it's the big reason for a path to be worn in the grass.

It'll be 216 old boy, I should know (at least) one of the guys on it. Rumour has it that it'll be there for some time, apparently they're having problems with one that's out there. The size of the fleet means that's probably the only one there.

There'll be more pics and some videos to follow. As soon as I resize the pics and get the vids uploaded to Youtube.

I think they expect everyone to get airsick to some degree on the first flight. In my case it was a combination of exhaust fumes and the fact that the tail shakes around like a shaky thing It vibrates a lot on the ground with the propwash so up in the air it's even worse.

It's weird how that happens. I would've though that the camera on my phone would have bent them the other way as the Merlin rotates clockwise as viewed from the rear and the tip is moving faster than the root.

Here's the first (i.e. shortest and quickest to upload). A low level flypast of RAF Benson, iirc from the comms between air traffic and the crew it was around 100-150 feet.

...it's called "rolling shutter effect"...i'm assuming you used a digital camera for these? they use a scanning technique rather than a snap shot...also looks like the port prop is rotating slightly faster than the starboard prop, but that could be because the scan is horizontal versus vertical...

...very cool pics! i'm jealous!

That would explain it. Sounds like a wiggly line phenomenon so outside my understanding

Engine start, you can see the camera shaking about a bit and hear some rattles already A piston engine aircraft shakes so much more than a gas turbine powered one.
