Went to a train show this last weekend with the family in Louisville, KY. Had a great time. Visited with old friends. Family got to see some sights.

Came up with a WitP:AE themed idea for a module. Even though the Doolittle raid is not modeled in the game, thought of modeling the Hornet loading up B-25Bs at Alameda. I model N scale (1:160) and there is a 1:200 Hornet kit out there that comes with 16 B-25Bs. It is 4 feet long! It will dwarf everything and give a great perspective to anyone who has not seen, or been close to a large ship. Now, to convince the wife to let me spend almost $400 on the kit...

And, I will leave the INP to someone else.

I love the idea, Mike! Port scenes are some of my favorites for model railroads. If you mix in a CV, it's 1000% better! I guess you would need to make it at least a 6 foot module instead of the typical 4 foot NTrak module to allow room for Hornet. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Anyways, probably TMI. But a reminder of those of you out there with familial history of colorectal cancer or precancerous polyps to get screened after age 50. Once every 5 years is the going recommendation, I believe.

Good on you for being proactive, Andre! I have no family history, but my doc is recommending it at 50 anyway. 2 years and 4 months to go.

Give her a $400 gift card to her favorite store... yes you're out twice as much, but it's worth it.

Trust me.

Any time I want something, Liz gets a nice giftcard to Target. That, and they can't steal our debit/credit card number again.

I once wanted to have a quiet morning playing WiTP, so I gave my wife $500 in Mad Money. I thought she would be gone all day shopping, and I would have all day to play, plus a happy wife at the end of the day.

That will teach me to think.

She came home within the hour with a diamond tennis bracelet. She was happy, but not that happy I was out $500, and I still had a woman in the house hollering at me every 15 minutes or so asking various things I had no interest in

HAHA!

My wife had women's night last night. I had a free evening right?

She took my truck so I'd have the car with the car seats in case I needed to go anywhere with the boys.

They were out at 8 without any problems. She didn't come home till 11:30 - my laptop was in my truck the whole time...

That, and we didn't even do anything "fun" when she got home...

Yes, it will be a six foot module and have a box built to go over it to keep the module (read ship) safe. Going to draw up some plans shortly and post the idea.

Sketch of what I had on a napkin...

A 6'x2.5' module. May shrink it down to 2' if I don't need all the space between the dock (brown) and the tracks (Red, Yellow, Blue)

The white space will be other activities to replenish the carrier, using ramps, men, the carriers starboard crane, etc. There will be a tow motor moving/staging the aircraft into position for the dock crane to load on the ship and activities on deck, such as tarping/tieing down the aircraft. There will be the forward elevator partway down with some of the carrier aircraft around that being stowed in the hanger and some visible from the starboard side of the ship. Lots of activity, probably more than would be going on at one time, but I want it to look very busy. Lots of figures to modify/paint!

Sounds like a plan! Looks ambitious, but all the fun stuff usually is.

I'd like to have the time to get back into making little plastic aeroplanes. One day I will, and then my plan is to make at least one of every type I've worked on (VC-10, Tristar, Spitfire, Hurricane, Lancaster, Dakota, Chipmunk plus the ones we used in training, Jaguar, Tornado, Jet Provost).

I've already persuaded Mrs D to let me buy some die-cast aeroplanes for my space in the next house, all I need is an area plus a display cabinet . I've got a few themes going on so far:
The career lot (VC-10, BBMF L/H/S)
The Nachtkrieg (Lancaster, Bf-110G-4, Do-215, Beaufighter IF, Mosquito B.IV plus a 100 Group B-24 all in 1:72, plus a Lancaster and 100 Gp B-17 in 1:144)
The WitP collection (Wellington, Liberator, Spitfire XIV, Hurricane IIc, Lysander, Hellcat)

Got a nice boneless leg o lamb and decided to make an Irish Lamb Stew. Yhe recipes are all written by Irish that are feeding Irish families, so I cot it in half. I still got enough to do half the clientelle of the Plough and Stars with a bowl and a pint. Woof !! I followed Mother Houlihan's recipe religiously, except where she added wine to the last simmer, I substituted whiskey. Simmer, simmer, simmer, get good and righteous. This is the best Irish lamb stew I ever made. Carrots, onions, special potatoes, nuclear booze, lamb tossed in seasoned flour and browned in bacon fat: garlic, onions, carrots, and bears, oh my !!!

Recipe on request. Believe it or not, it's heart friendly. Ciao. John

Hi all,

Everything is okay.

Having a calm period before the next course starts in the end of February.

Weatherwise, we're probably going to get "official" winter tomorrow, as the mean temperature has been below zero for a week straight then. Very little snow, just a few centimeters. Otherwise, as I've said before, we have had the warmest winter in almost a century. Feels a little strange after two straight very harsh winters.

It is raining today... but still unusually warm (+10 degrees Centigrade)... meteo service "thinks" winter will come in February...

Hi all,

I lost 4 pounds since yesterday!

I'm on a new diet for the last 48 hours. It's the "Pending colonoscopy" diet. No food for 48 hours and you medically induce a case of the ***** that would make dysenterics blush.

I *did* have the forethought to mix in 6 oz. of vodka into the gallon of stuff I had to drink though. It helped take the edge off a bit. I figured "well, if I can't eat and I'll have the ****s for the next two days, I may as well get a little buzz goin' too."

Long familial history (mom's side) of colorectal cancer. So I'm being screened at 45 instead of the usual 50. As my health insurance will be transitioning at the end of the month, I figured I'd get as many prophylactic or routine procedures "under my belt" as I possibly could.

Oops! I had to edit that. Still -10F and rising to the mid-thirties is still pretty nice out, less the blizzard warning.

My son came home & proved he is a better man than I. HE understands women. He even proved it!!

Mathematical proof that Women are Evil

Statement................................................Reason
1. Women = Time and Money.....................Women take time and money (given)
2. Time = Money.......................................Time is Money (given)
3. Women = Money x Money......................Substitution Property
4. Women = Money squared.......................Square property
5. Money = The square root of evil..............Money is the root of all evil (given)
6. Women = (square root of evil) squared....Substitution Property
7. Therefore Women = Evil.........................Inverse property

I stood amazed

Yep.

He's officially engaged now, and has been living off base since last year. We wound up bringing back a kitten that he couldn't keep at his apartment.

We left late Christmas eve and went through the snowstorm. That turned a 12 hour trip to a 16 hour one. Lasted from the start until into ND.

That storm missed us. The next ones didn't. And this isn't either. Possible winds up to 60 mph is some areas. That's going to be brutal.
If you ever take the highway 2 route, don't forget you have a port of call here.
