Ordinarily, I'd decry the nashvillen tyranny. But since it's your birthday, I'll let you have this one.

Slow cooked pork ribs transferred from the slow cooker to the barbeque for a bit of color and 'finish'. We picked a whole mess of fiddlehead ferns, cleaned them and sauteed them with some homegrown chives and brown butter too. One of my favorite 'vegetables'.

Hi all,

Big floods (almost unprecedented) in the east of my country (and neighboring countries had been hit much much worse - scores of people are dead and missing and thousands are evacuated)...

Thanks for all the birthday wishes, Brothers!

My birthday was a smashing success! I completed my first Century Ride, finishing up at 102 miles in the Tour de Cure, raising money to fight diabetes. I also made a new friend on the ride, who it turns out lives 2 blocks away from me in the same neighborhood!

Then, my lovely bride had a great dinner prepared with some friends and she baked a pumpkin pie for me!

Friends brought me a big bottle of Meyers Rum, and Sara and Alex somehow managed to get me an official Masters logo polo shirt! I didn't realize it, but you can't get them anywhere but at Augusta National, and you have to be allowed in to even get to the pro shop there. Sara worked a connection with her old college room mate who lives near there and volunteers at the tournament. They get pro shop privileges one day a year and picked up the shirt for me. I love the shirt, and love the effort to obtain it for me.

I'm a lucky guy!

I'm taking a half day of vacation this afternoon to take Alex to get his full driver's license. I get an extra hour of sleep every day, starting tomorrow!

Leo and Schanilec, I saw some footage of these. We have had our share of severe floods in Middle Tennessee (May 2010 for example), but that is devastating to see.

Congratulations on it all, Mike, especially the century ride. I did my last one for my 50th birthday a few years back (I was 20 for my first one). It's a wonderful feeling of accomplishment when you complete one of those. And to find a new riding buddy to boot... very nice!

That's terrible, Leo. Why such flooding? Was there more rain than usual or a bigger snowpack melting from the mountains?

And for added "fun", old land mines from the war are feared to have been unearthed and taken along by the floodwaters.

Not really. We're not a NATO country. Doing the same TEWT (Tactical Exercise Without Troops) with a historical twist that we've done for a couple of years now.

The happenings in Crimea and Ukraine have put an extra dimension on it though.

Yeah I saw a little of it on TV. Three months of precipitation in three days ...

Whoah. Just heard on the news that kids can't have chocolate milk anymore in Connecticut. I guess it's bad for them by somebody's standards.

And here we went and dumped all that tea into Boston harbor, just so some $*** brained A$$**** can make laws about Big Gulps, and Chocolate Milk ???

Boy, oh boy. How far we have come.

Ooooh ... and maybe Michoacan ??!! Just saw an advert on the tube. Kohler has a hands-off toilet. No $hit. Do your stuff, wipe off, and get up and the toilet does it's own majic thing. Wonder what happens if you still have a klingon.

Boy, oh boy. How far we have come.

John, I just read that The Soggy Dollar Bar in Jost Van Dyke was rated as one of the 5 best beach bars in the world. Wonder if the Painkillers had anything to do with it?
