Just FYI, I play with troop automation on and have not had this issue, but we will investigate and fix. If you have a save that could help as it may require specific conditions.

I will have a look from an old autosave tomorrow, and see if I can catch it happening while going idle fast forward. If I can stay away from progressing the game...

One little thing I have noticed is the last line of leader skillups not being included in the popup window. The one that says the new level.

I've owned DW since it was released and added on RoTS when it was released.

I had only played DW & RoTS very infrequently as I found it easier to get into and enjoy Armada 2526.

Pre-ordered SOTS2 - threw toys out of the pram and had a nerd-rage fueled hissy fit

Had the itch to play a different 4X (though I still do rather like Armada)

Had another go at RoTS (over the last week or so) and really started to enjoy the game.

Impatiently waited for Legends but felt strong in my resolve (given my recent SOTS2 experience) not to make it a day 1 purchase and see what the initial reactions from the forum were.

Failed in my resolve - purchased as soon as I got home from work.

After 2-3 hours play I'm very glad I did.

Like the added immersion of the character system.

Really like the ship vectors - makes it a lot easier for (as I am still) a newbie like myself to understand what is going on.

Overall what has made me start to like DW/RoTS/Legends is to accept that I'm not controlling everything (I've so far left all the automation at its default settings) and therefore take a more relaxed attitude to what is happening minute by minute in the galaxy and in a way treat it more like a city builder rather than a RTS.

Again thumbs up on the Legends expansion - even though I've only just scratched the surface of the game as a whole.

Yeah, played some more now and really liking the additions with spheres and whatnot. Just had my 'Genius' scientist(+20% empire-wide research) replace my former leader. Which sucks, since this guy's a pretty bad leader but was an excellent scientist. Definitely adds flavor though.

I've had limited interaction with the AI as of yet, but they(discovered 4 AI empires) appear to have some trouble expanding in my sparse colony locations/15x15/1000stars/varied clusters/expensive research game setup. Looks like they're getting kinda stuck in the clusters they start in, probably because of fuel limitations. Still early, but I've explored and colonized 2-3 other clusters myself.

You must have had Technocracy government type - they often replace leaders with a Scientist. Each government type has difference to how they replace leaders. Military Dictatorships often choose from your admirals or generals, for example.

Setting the colony prevalence low does make the early game a lot more dependent on luck as far as finding the nearby colony worlds and having a decent starting location. This tends to hurt the AI a bit more than the human player. You may want to set them to Hard difficulty and have them start off as "Young" rather than "Starting" to try to compensate a bit, or just increase the colony prevalence a notch.

- Erik

It sounds like Legends is living up to its promise.

I haven't purchased yet but think I will have to later today. I have a couple of questions.

If I download the game now onto my laptop will I be able to install the game onto my new desktop in a couple of weeks or a months time?

And secondly how does the difficulty slider make the game more or less difficult?

As long as you keep your download in a safe place you can install it again of course, if you lose it you can re-download it too.  If you join the matrix members area (not sure if this is a requisite of buying a game or not) you can access download link and your serial numbers from there whenever you like too, its very handy indeed!

Yes, I believe that's possible, though Erik would have to answer that one to be sure.

Difficulty controls how much money your colonies make. At harder settings all AI empires earn more colony income. At easier settings the player's colony income increases.

So you have either more or less money available for ships/research/etc relative to other empires.

Yes, absolutely.

Primarily, it helps the economies of the AI empires, which makes up for some of the other advantages human players have.

Meaning Corporate Nationalism? This can really represent any government type where the State effectively controls the Private sector. It blurs one of the key lines in Distant Worlds and will no doubt be of interest to some but it does have some significant consequences as well.

Why call it Nazi goverment? It has absolutely nothing to do with it! The Nazi would fit the idea of military dictatorship while disowning everything NOT in hands of their own people. Not taking all revenue of the public in general.
That's plain "stalinism".

Yes, it could have a variety of historical or futuristic analogs, including the ruling "mega-corps" of the cyberpunk genre.

Loving every minute of it :) This game with the expansions has to be the best 4x space game I have purchased and I tried most all of them (except SoTS2; I saw reviews on that one before I opened a wallet). I just take a random race and go with it...fun stuff... Love the leaders and borders

I was being facetious, although I think Hitler's National Socialism fits the description of that government type to a "T." From the massive initial productivity boost to the inevitable gotterdamerung it is sure to create! I look forward to finding a reason to use it in a good AAR.

I must agree with the previous request though, i'd love a way to tell the AI ship design automation to focus on a certain type of weapon, like "focus on railguns". I dislike manually designing everything, but i also want some wide-scope say in what technological direction my fleet takes.

Initial impressions:

Load times - superb!  Graphics are great!  New techs are looking interesting so far.  I've seen a lot of great UI changes that make things helpful and streamlined.  All in all, I'm impressed with these changes.

However, the AI seems to now have gone in the other direction.  While as before, the AI seemed to hate everyone and always go to war (unless you pay them off); now it's the opposite.  Everyone loves me.  No one wants to fight...  Initially, everyone has the, "we are very wary of you".  But that quickly goes away and then they all just like me.  They want to form trade agreements and give me money (even when only at +5).  Even the Sluken like me (I am the Shandar)!  This is going with Restless aggression level.  The AI still seems to lack the "lifelike" feel that makes it feel like each race is different.  These are just my initial impressions; maybe things will change over time.

Also, the AI, even on Very Hard, doesn't seem to expand much at all.  I'll try making them larger and see if that changes things much.

Anyways, overall, I like many of the changes.  Distant Worlds is definitely moving in the right direction.

I am seeing a lot of friendliness and bribes. But I have also seen two AI empires covet my colonies, and then declare war and take what it wants.

This is no normal aggression and hard difficulty.

i played 3-4 hours and could not find any real bug so far.

i espacialy like the fighter concept in the game. gave my destroyers 2 fighters and 2 bombers and built also fighter bases as defense bases and works great so far.

realy worth the money.

the only bad aspect of the game are this tiny fonts.:( realy hard to read on a big monitor. is there any way to get bigger fonts?

Usually setting the tech preferences in your policies will do this, as that will focus weapon research and the ship design automation will tend to use the best available weapon.

A lot also depends on galaxy settings for aggression and what point in the game you are at (later game, things get a bit more cozy and then the more aggressive races get a little more active. Government type can also increase or decrease an aggressive race's tendencies (for example a Sluken Democracy, if near your Democracy is much less likely to go to war with you than a Sluken Military Dictatorship near your Democracy).

Also, the AI, even on Very Hard, doesn't seem to expand much at all.  I'll try making them larger and see if that changes things much.

This is very unusual in my experience. How far into a game have you played? What were your galaxy settings?

If you are concerned, feel free to upload a save for us. There are so many possible galaxy setting combinations that it's very helpful to see a save anytime things behave differently from expectations.

Regards,

- Erik

The only thing you can really do to make the fonts larger is to try running your desktop and the game at a lower resolution than your monitor normally runs. That will make everything a bit larger, but depending on how your monitor and/or video card handle the scaling may not look as clear.

Thumbs up here for Legends so far. Loading time is noticeably quicker, images look sharper too. Like the borders though I noticed a race I had a trade agreement with colonized within my borders. On the other hand, we were on very good terms.

Like the characters a lot. That they have all sorts of traits, both good and bad, is great for storyline and making the game more immersive. It will also be a great platform for AARs as well. As soon as we get that customization manual for Legends I'm putting in the tlhIngan wo' into Legend space. Eager to see what sorts of characters will arise from that.

Being able to see ship destination vectors is a great addition. That this can be done selectively or en masse via the mini map buttons just makes it so much easier to use.

Almost got a wonder with the shipyards, but another race just beat me to it. Looking forward to see how that works.

Dunno if this is a Legends feature or from earlier, but how your race responds to other races within your empire is neat. I had my Mortalens go at an insectoid race and subjugated their world. Since I selected non-repitlian races to be enslaved, the world I conquered was immediately classified a penal colony. Woohoo!
