Re-watching Ken Burns' Civil War series. I can never get enough conversations with Shelby Foote!

I remember losing interest in this tournament after the Swedish match against US.

The officials, as I recall and in my humble opinion, might not have been bribed but there were certainly not impartial. Not even close.

One can tell that Decision Games Hurtgen Forest took note of those era maps: min.3:38. I would like to see maps like that in future Matrix games.

I didn't see that game, but home country bias is real in team sports.

I think that in the Olympics, the officials are from countries not competing in that match.

Yes, but they are influenced by the crowd.

The Waitress

A feel good musical my littlest warspite wanted to see. Well worth it, although the musical score could have been a bit stronger.

Been watching a program on National Geographic about the Cold War. Only 4 episodes I think and not incredibly detailed, however as an overview for someone like me (for whom warfare post-Hiroshima has never been of much interest) I've found it highly interesting, informative and watchable.

Look up "Able Archer 83" and see when the Cold War almost became hot.

Call me old fashioned Zorchster, but would it be fair to say you have a bit of a War of The Worlds vibe going on at the moment?

Re-watched The Killing Fields.

Brilliant movie. Although sad. And scary.

What a performance by Dr Haing S. Ngor. Stunning. And a well deserved Oscar. What eludes me though, is why he got the Oscar for "supporting actor"? He clearly had one of the two lead roles.

Feels like something like this has a hard time getting made today.

Why not? - both are excellent movies. The first is a Japanese version of King Lear, the second the inspiration for The Magnificent 7.

You could also try Yojimbo and Sanjuro -same director -Akira Kurosawa. The two movies were the inspiration for A Fist Full of Dollars and For a few Dollars more. The final showdown, I think it's in Sanjuro, is excellent.

Yes - only saw it once - but it doesn' t take much to see the relationship between . I also liked Rashomon - not in the same vein as the others but a very thoughtful film.

Seven Worlds, One Planet.

Another David Attenborough masterpiece. One episode still to go (Africa) but the series has been brilliant - if brutal.

Just seen North America and the sight of polar bears trekking around grassland with not a piece of ice in sight (and the beach is just mud and rocks....

A group of bears has devised a way of trying to stay alive in this new environment. They set themselves up on a suitable rock at sea, wait for Beluga whales to swim past and then.....

Horrible to watch but mighty impressive at the same time. I had no idea polar bears are such excellent swimmers.

Well it turned out to be 6 parts, not 4. It was a decent series except they could have done with some better spacing. Having taken 5 episodes to go from 1945 to 1962, they then went from 1963 to 1991 in 1! As can be imagined, after dealing with Vietnam, that left about 10 minutes of the program to whistle-stop through 1975-1991.

But for an overview of some of the key events of the cold war it was worth watching.
