Harvey has sent the first turn off.

What the hell to do with all of those old battlewagons if they do NOT do a Pearl strike first turn?

I was considering there or Pago Pago... I was going to email you later on this evening, or after they send us the turn. Who knows, they could do a Pearl strike after all.

Report from China:

I have started moving units to meet the following goals in China:

Areas to Defend in China
89,39 River crossing to Yenan
88,41 Mtn Pass to Sian
88,44 Chengchow
87,43 Loyang
85,45 Nanyang
83,41 Sian
82,52 Changsha
82,53 Line from Changsha to just south of Nanchang to Chusien to Wenchow
83,53 Line from Changsha to just south of Nanchang to Chusien to Wenchow
83,54 Line from Changsha to just south of Nanchang to Chusien to Wenchow
83,55 Line from Changsha to just south of Nanchang to Chusien to Wenchow
84,56 Line from Changsha to just south of Nanchang to Chusien to Wenchow
85,56 Line from Changsha to just south of Nanchang to Chusien to Wenchow
86,56 Line from Changsha to just south of Nanchang to Chusien to Wenchow
87,56 Line from Changsha to just south of Nanchang to Chusien to Wenchow
88,56 Chusien
88,57 Line from Changsha to just south of Nanchang to Chusien to Wenchow
76,57 Wuchow
79,57 Kukong
72,55 Nanning
65,45 Paoshan
84,33 Ningsia
82,26 Kiuchuan
81,34 Lanchow
81,40 Pass over Qinling Mountains
Keep RR line between Hankow and Chengchow cut as long as possible

I have also moved active air units away from the front to prevent them from being training drones for the Japanese fighters. My pilots need a little more training before they can even start to contest the skies over China. I have two squadrons of the Flying Tigers in Burma, but no service facilities large enough to handle them! Any ideas?

I have turned off all repairs and have put to rest all non-essential LCUs to save on supplies. I have turned on replacements for those units that can make the best use of them (those over 30% TOE and near the projected action). The rest will have to wait, those under 30% will be speed bumps to reappear at better strength later at Chungking.

I am analyzing my leaderships in my units expecting combat for the next day's turn to move some leaders around if I can get an allotment of PPs to do so. I will send my partners a "budget" of what I would like to spend with priorities to see if I can get some.

I, as most of you know, am usually a Japanese player and am looking carefully at the economics here and will be trying to figure out where my supplies are going and where they will do the most good with some adjustments of requested supplies in the key areas. I know what Japan might like to have in this region and hope to keep the IJA and the IJAAF at bay.

Report from the Soviet Union:

In this area I am concentrating on conservation of supplies until I can build up a large enough reserve to either repel an attack or attack. I really don't expect either, but just in case!

I plan on building up with replacements all critical units to near 100% TOE and train up the air forces to best possible level.

The way this goes is all dependent on what the Japanese players do.

Anything else to add?

The real key piece will be to ferret out where they going to apply their main effort. I have never played scenario #2 but reading through AARs and looking at the reinfrocement schedule, they have much more capability than in scen #1 hence better, more powerful options. Those follow on forces can fill in for the numerous 14th Army Units that will be redirected towards the DEI and SWPAC as they are loaded up and ready to go. The variable reinforcements are a two edged sword and will be key to determine impacts of that on the Allies.

If he applied the added forces in China, we will be holed up in Chunking rather rapidly. If China goes, Russia than becomes viable early rather than later as a target.

If he comes for India, we will be holed up in Bombay or Karachi quickly.

If he comes for Australia, we will be holed up in and around Sydney rather quickly.

If he brings it to the Hawaiin Islands, he could be in possession of PH by mid-42. (probably needs a PH strike to make this vaible)

My WitP experience is only valuable in a tactical sense, as strategic timing will be be much faster tempo and much more powerful. That means thinking about the defense of India, Australia, and Hawaiin Islands are important upfront. Other than the West Coast is there is no place we can or need to defend in strength. It will be a matter of obstructing and delaying without expending key assets (ie, CVs, USMC divisions, etc...)

I feel like a mosquito planning to defend against an elephant.

Curious to see the first turn.

Do you guys recommend tracker and combat report?

Tracker, most definitely. I will be trying combat report now that I am an allied player. Japanese intel is sparse and in between. You get more info from your recon planes.

Intel is like panning for gold. Lots of sand, but there can be nuggets of gold if you know what you are looking for. Never tried combat report.

Well, I'm back in business. Same hardware, just wiped the HD and started over. Seemed to have fixed the problem. And now I have some spare hardware.

Found out that we had guests, and they brought their kids, and these kids allegedly looked at sites - and clicked on links - that they shouldn't be looking at and clicking on.

Anyways, I'm looking forward to a week's worth of reinstalling everything. Glad I had backups, especially saves for first-turn WitP games!

No hard feelings; I agreed that the guys shouldn't wait and just continue the game, and Mike is welcome to continue his participation. I don't want to mess up is plan, or jump in mid-stream and try to figure out someone else's plan.

Not sure I agree on the AAR title, though... All this talk of Virgin Princess's and 2-on-3 action.

...unless, of course, the Virgins are hot, and the girls outnumber the guys!

Our first turn has been processed and sent back some time ago, we've just been a little busy on our side of things, and it is that time of the year...

Yeaa... not

Manila Strike confirmed destroying many ships, wrecking everything in side, as well as Clark Field....

I will let Mike and Harvey update their own theatres...

Here you see ships damaged, but not sunk in initial attack.

All planes will be on alert for any additional attack.

I will post combat reports in my area after supper.

Our losses from Day 1... planes... aces.. ships... look at how fast the Hornet and Yorktown come on...

I will let Harvey tell you about his ocean intercept that sent two ships and Jap troops to the bottom west of Manila.

Dec 8. 1941

British and commonwealth forces surprised by unannounced aggression by the forces of Imperial Japan.

The hostilities started by the Japanese by moving naval invasion forces during the night towards the waters of the British Commonwealth. CDR AL Powers whose 3 destroyer flotilla was recalled from Hong Kong to defend the waters of Northern Borneo happened into one of these invasion forces the morning of Dec 7. They sank two freighters, seriously damaged another and hammered an IJN DD, before running into an IJN surface combat TF with the CAs Myoko and Nachi which sank the Thanet and significantly damaged the Thracian. Better being sunk after having at least tasted victory once than by aircraft in Hong Kong harbor like target drones.

Bad day in the air as daylight broke to heavy Japanese air attacks in Malaysia and Burma, but it was particulary so if you were a Buffalo pilot. Of the 40 Allied losses, 19 were Buffaloes with 14 being lost in the air. Big raid on Khota Bharu has effectively shut the airfield down and a big raid on Rangoon resulted in significant damage (40s for airfield and services) and multiple ships damaged in the harbor.

There were also assorted ineffective raids on IJN forces at Singora and Patani that had no appreciable effect.

With the KB in the South China Sea and the Khota Bharu invasion withheld, expect a potential invasion at Mersing to attempt to isloate and destroy in detail the forces north of Jahore Baru. Looks like a quick push into Burma as well, given the heavy raid and movement in northern Thailand.
