Well, that surface TF sortie was really entertaining! One has to hand it to andav, he's really fighting on

It's too bad for him that no cruisers made it against the CVE. It could have been much more bloody for you.

Java is not entirely green! No more red dots or troops anywhere

About the war in China. After Liuchow, will you keep advancing towards the interior along that direction? Towards Changsha, or even deeper towards Chungking? Or keep advancing mainly along the coast, with an eye to Shangai? Do you plan to build up some airfields along the way, or will you just use the big ones already present there?

Mainly along the coastal areas, as planned. Definitely an eye toward Shanghai. Bases will be built as needed.

The immediate move on Nanning was mostly opportunistic. The main spearhead is following the main plan. The forces that pushed on Nanning and are Pushing on Liuchow are doing so largely in support of that operation. Note that without the success of the bypass movement through the woods in front of Wuchow, the defenses at and around Nanning would not have been weakened. At Kweilin and Kukong we might see the same thing.

As the various British Army, et al units engaged on the Malay Peninsula become free that will impact plans too.

That one-salvo magazine explosion....the temerity of chance...

She was already fairly beat up, but I guess what really aided that (bad) chance was her lack of armor. She was one of the weaker Treaty Cruisers.

The armor at Wuchow, except for a garrison, is moving to pursue at full speed. The 4EB remain assigned to hit now ex-defenders of Wuchow, unprotected in the open. It looks like one IJA unit exited the city before the attack as 6 units and > 20,000 troops were expected. The infantry is still a few days behind. East of Nanning the armoured attack did well and tomorrow they will rest while the main column attacks (some artillery units did not make it yet). Samah is about to fall. The zombies near Lao Cai are cracking.

Temuloh in Malaya will be assaulted tomorrow.

Batavia has built to size 5 airfield.

A good attack at Naha even though the Iowas and 2x old BB did not make their bombardment runs due to ops points expended.

A good HQ die roll is always welcome. Disruption is much lower than after the last attack, and AV is still 1,849. No doubt the next assault will be in fewer days than the last gap.

Tokunoshima has built airfield size 2, and the base force is again unloading.

The remaining Amami Oshima assault troops are now loading in the Marianas.

Definitely helped the battle turn the final corner. Now it's quite possible that Naha will fall on the next attack.

The column is now moving to cross the river in formation, which will take 3 or 4 days; now 66,000 troops at Liuchow and they are heading east into the Woods-Rough terrain south of Kweilin. Over near Wuchow the armored column will catch the ex-defenders tomorrow, or probably all of them will. Over 1,200 casualties inflicted from the air on that retreating mob today. Our troops at Samah hardly realize they are in combat and will just continue attacking. In the mountains supply for attacks is hard to come by, and SE of Kunming the enemy has broken contact and must be pursued.

The Temuloh roadblock is brushed aside.

It's good to have these IJN assets expended before the Amami Oshima invasion, which is even a little closer to the Home Islands.

The troops at Naha could attack tomorrow - with maximum disruption at 10% and AV at 1,889 - but will wait one more day to ensure maximum naval bombardment resources are in place. All the battleships are being held short of the island to recover ops points for the following day. Only cruisers will bombard tonight. The bombardments today were better than average, which I attribute to the fortifications being now reduced all the way to level 3.

I will strongly consider ordering a shock attack for that next assault. What mitigates against it is the number and effectiveness of the guns the defenders have. They get two shots at the assaulters during a shock attack (instead of one), and with the guns they have in place it is just possible that a shock attack could under-perform a deliberate attack.

The last of the troops for Amami Oshima are now loading.

China.

Batavia airfield is size 6 + 97%. The B-24 should require a size 5 field to carry a full load, so the strikes on Singapore port will begin tomorrow. Simultaneously, dive bombers will begin hitting the ports at Batu Pahat and Bengkalis, while attack bombers hit the port at Palembang. Those are the only ports known to have ships anchored. Additional B-24 will attack Singapore port at long range from Soerabaja.

The cruiser bombardments of the defenses at Naha went well, but sea traffic control at night might have been lacking.

Who are those guys?! A number of cruiser and destroyer covering task forces are being rearranged although the carriers were already covered. The battleships will all head to Naha to bombard tonight in aid of tomorrow's ground assault. The cruisers that bombarded last night have high ops point usage (most at 450) and so will wait this one out, instead deploying to the hex where the IJN DD TF has located some of our carriers.

Two fleet CV and one CVE TF have replenished and taken on replacement airplanes and pilots at Guam. They will head out immediately for Daito Shoto, while the other CVE TF will make Guam this evening. The Amami Oshima invasion convoys will rendezvous tomorrow 3 hexes west of Pagan and then head for Daito Shoto.

I am quite curious to see the results of those port strikes. In theory they could/should be good. There seems to be no task forces at sea at Singapore, and assuming your recon is good enough that means the ships are disbanded in port or inside the shipyard. So, high damage potential there.

Also, an attack at Naha! You made no predictions this time

Naha 'could' fall this time. Forts are at level 3 and I ordered a deliberate attack, which means a likely reduction to forts 2 that would require 4 to 1 odds or better to capture the base. Possible but I sure can't predict how likely.

Last time the odds were 3 to 1 but pretty close to 4 to 1. All the bombardments and air strikes went in with the forts at 4 versus only forts 3 this time. Aside from the prodigious chance elements in this game a fly in the ointment is that stupid IJN DD TF sitting in the middle of the carriers where it might disrupt naval bombardments, Avenger strikes, or both.

The problem the Singapore port strikes will face is well over 500 guns. I expect things to be nasty.

After much consideration, I have decided to prepare the free major units in the Pacific for Operation Hokkaido. The emphasis will be on the entry point and on bringing all force possible to capture all bases on Hokkaido itself. The goal is to allow 4EB other than B-29 to strike industries in the northern part of Honshu.

Looking forward to it I am curious to see how you evaluate that invasion you had to endure...

Wipts: I imagine you will bring a very sizable amount of land units for this, obviously. When you have an estimate of the time frame of the operation... and of the units involved.... Well, forum dwellers like detail

I imagine you will want to prep to 100% for this, so at least 2-3 months including transportation and logistics...

Yes. I'll try to find units with the best leaders to prepare for the entry point, which is the only place where 100% preparation is so imortant (in the hope they will prepare >1 percent per day). But if SigInt continues to show a small force at the entry point, I could go in with multiple partially prepared divisions just to get things rolling.

I guess I should look at garrison requirements, too.

Garrison requirements in Hokkaido are quite small for the strategic importance of the bases.
Note that Kunashiri is in the cold zone where winter weather is a "*itch".

I'm planning on landing at a base that is not quite ideal so as to hit less resistance there. The road net out of Kushiro is not so good. When I capture another base units can rail to the front.

Doing the turn now and plan to identify those units and get them preparing. First dealing with the logistics of capturing Naha this turn.

A strike on Bengkalis was scrubbed due to weather.

Batavia airfield construction has slowed a great deal and size 8 will take a few more days, but the strikes on Singapore port were handled just fine.

Of course air strikes assisted also but are not shown above. I'm surprised we managed to burn up all the defenders' supply. The Imperials are now making for Nago, so all the armor and two of the infantry divisions will attack tomorrow. The other four divisions will recover disruption and then rotate in. It sure would be nice to prevent some of the estimated 418 guns still with that army from reaching Nago. Additional supply is on the way from Guam; support ships are on the way from Daito Shoto; an additional contingent of mine sweepers is on the way from Daito Shoto; engineers and base forces are on the way from (near) Daito Shoto. Some of the latter transports will begin taking off the most battered infantry divisions after unloading their present guests. The base facilities are shattered and will take a number of days to square away before construction can begin.

The IJN destroyers apparently decided to withdraw, and got out without being seen, so I suppose they used the same secret passageway by which they arrived.. The cruisers will bombard tonight while the battleships recover ops points.

The Amami Oshima invasion convoys are heading straight for Tokunoshima (about 4 days away), 1 hex from their target. When all troop convoys have arrived there they will proceed to target without waiting for the LST supply convoy, which can begin landing on D+1 if necessary. No shock attack necessary for landing on Amami Oshima. Daito Shoto port has maxed out at size 3 and the airfield is building again (4 + 21%, max 6).

China.
