Two are sunk, one more will sink tomorrow. Our own RN subs are two or three days away from laying 374 mines at Fusan. We have other British subs tasked to lay mines nearby, but the USN subs are out of the mine game. In this (old) version of Babes, the USN subs do not upgrade to the newer mine types being produced and all of the old ones they use are gone.

I thought there would be a 30 day delay before they began arriving in small groups as was recently discussed. I failed to realize that 'starting right away' was meant! Due to the dam burst of released troops, we now have a serious over stacking problem in Chengtu and will cease attacks until that is relieved, which is a pity because with supply we could eliminate the remaining defenders rather quickly. All the released units are heading for nearby bases to upgrade from '43 squads to '45 squads, which also means that almost all units that already have '45 squads now must turn off replacements to make sure we can upgrade as rapidly as possible. While they will take time to march and are sorely lacking in heavy weapons, we now have enough manpower to overwhelm the invaders in the rest of China.

Pressing in the Philippines.

That was fast in Chengtu! Maybe with the newly liberated Chinese forces soon to take control of much of China, you will have more freedom to send US and/or British units into Manchuria for your early Soviet activation scheme.

That was fast! I had just assumed that the advice given about it was prefixed with "30 day delay", but obviously not.

I think the observation about the marching time and all still holds (Chinese Army units without much for heavy weapons could not take the various urban bastions alone), so the Allied units in China now will go into the Home Islands. Whatever invasion gets held up the least - or if I am lucky breaks through - will get massive reinforcements, Soviet style! That will be my own version of early Soviet activation.

Perhaps you can minimize marching time ?

I mean / infer that collecting all Allied troops in China in Hong Kong. Good Harbor - good supply point - minimal chance to over stack. Lots of units should be able to "rail in".

From Hong Kong the Allied troops are : 1) a threat to home island invasion 2) a threat to Korean peninsula invasion 3) a threat to amphib leapfrog to Tsingtao and therefore launch the Manchurian invasion on a single deep thrust such as when you broke out from CRBay back in 1944.

--

Allow the Chinese with "delayed upgrades or even no upgrades" to march into all those base requiring garrisons.

A human shield.

There are simply so many (plus more coming) you should be able to garrison and "stack a front line" Nanyang / Singyang / Angking / Nanking / Shanghai (??). Eventually with HQs and supply they can upgrade slowly.

I suppose there may be the need for a "few premium advisor" units to support the screen..

But it may give you the most flexibility around target selection given you have discussed the pros and cons all 3 options. Home Island / Korea / Manchuria

This looks like a good plan, though at this point I don't think the Japanese can effectively transfer troops to any perceived threatened location. So there isn't any need for any sort of misdirection, but still the facilities at HK should give the Allies the most flexibility as witpqs considers different options.

Trying to respond without quoting (might miss something)...

Have already used a lot of '43 squad units for garrison. Still using some for attack, too. Will try to get everybody (except withdrawals out of theater) up to '45 squads. I have ~300 '45 squads in the pool, so big units or 1/3s of units can go one per turn, small units more than one. Releasing them to march that way is OK anyway because of stacking limits. Supply is better in China than it has ever been but could still be burned up if I forget about stacking.

Many of the cities you mention for a front are either already garrisoned by Chinese Army units or they are well on the way, but the front is already past there! One thing I did not do is look at the ground reinforcements schedule to see how many units are coming at me. Too much to contemplate in one turn.

I'm going to avoid any place where troops currently in China would need to prepare to land because that would just take too long or they would be trashed on landing. With 4 separate points of entry to the remaining Home Islands finding a captured port to bring them in should not pose a problem. Essentially, this is the same thing that Macclan5 is suggesting, but without a separate amphibious landing. Of course the big difference is "Target: Home Isands" rather than Manchuria or Korea. And I might not use Hong Kong as the exit port because it's pretty far behind the front now.

Whether there is time for the Allied armor/armour to assist the Chinese Army in pushing to the Manchuria border remains to be seen.

BTW, still have 745,000 supply in Singapore with no air or LCU present and no ships home ported or in port there. After it's had a full week (to make sure one 'long' supply pull cycle has passed), I'll take steps to try and get it moving.

Thanks for responding W

I suggested 'Honkers' largely because I assume you didn't spend engineering or supply on building up Foochow or Ningpo. Hong Kong must be a level 7 port even after damage and capture and you possibly did spend resources building it up as a ship repair point as I recall.

That new note on Singers is interesting / frustrating.

I have spent a fair time in trying to play with demand supply push pull for fuel / supply / oil resources. I posted a clarification thread in the War room forum 'logistics 101 clarification'.

If you are done with waiting I think you need to create a "pull / demand side request / demand sink" above and beyond HQ movement.

Again using our above mentioned cities of Honkers / Foochow :

1) Spin up the supply demand dial in port
2) Line up a series of xAKs task forces to load supplies from your preferred 'demand sink' ~ say three TFs with 10 ships each or more..
3) Load supplies -
4) Move offshore
5) Deposit them 'somewhere'

As far as moving Allied troops out of China, I will be able to use Hangchow after its capture, plus smaller ports. They can even be strat mode shipped to Formosa for combat loading there.

My plan to move Singers supply if it is stubborn: put a Command HQ at Bangkok until supply pulls there; move to Cam Ranh Bay until supply moves there; move to Haiphong until supply moves there; pull it out and let the supply flow into China. I *think* that will work.

Nope I think it will require "more than a few HQs" although that may slowly influence the direction.

So slowly you may be at end game.

I think you actually have to now think of supply from Singers like your IJN opponent does / did at the beginning of the game. Create a demand sink to feed the home islands...

1) Spin up dials (supply required) on a "Big" port close to the Home Islands <<i.e. Hong Kong>>

2) Create what I call a "demand sink" at the Big Port. A number of task forces sucking out supply of the desired big port one after the other and sending it somewhere ... if not to the home islands for a war economy then to the Philippines.

3) This will suck supply out of smaller bases i.e. Cam Rhan Bay and further south which in turn - "next turn" will suck supply from Bangcock/Victoria Point - which will in turn "next turn" suck supply from Singers.

Right now it moves but likely bounces back to Singers as the "largest port" without spoilage.

Here this the thread:

http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4068928

Here are some key points from Ser Alfreds ultimate suuply thread embedded in above:

Most automatic importation of supply (and fuel) occurs overland but under certain restricted circumstances, it can also occur over water (see s.9.3.3.3 of the manual). There is no aerial automatic importation of supply. Players can manually import, by ships both supply and fuel, but airplanes cannot transport fuel they can only transport supply. Players cannot manually directly import supply (and fuel) overland, however by manipulation of the supply required spinner or stockpile option, a player can manually exert some influence on the direction and amount of supply moved overland by the program automatically.

--

6. In the absence of player intervention, raw materials produced at a base are sent to satisfy the natural demands from all bases which can trace a valid supply path back to the production site. Any surplus raw materials production is then sent to the largest port which can trace a valid supply path. The tie breaker when 2 or more equally sized ports are candidates, is the port with the highest spoilage limit.

I don't want to specifically pull supply to Hong Kong because that will also limit the supply released to forward bases in China. I hope my plan works - or even better does not have to work and things fix themselves.

Just when you thought it was safe to visit the supply depot...

I was thinking more along the lines of a massive convoy from EC to CT to HK with about 2.5 million supply or so.

One trip would be just about enough to make China flush for the remainder of the war.

Hmm...how many liberty ships is that? The world wonders.

+1 Hans.

I think that is in fact the solution. Massive convoy to suck Singers dry and deposit in China.

The route I speak of above is fraught with "spoke robbing" forward bases of supply.

The route is what an efficient IJ player would create with the ultimate destination being the home islands and avoiding long sea voyages open to sub attack warfare for example ~ at least according to the various comments posted in my link and the other linked posts on Logistics 101.

The HQs will attract some supply increase slowly. Further building fortifications / airbases / port sizes will do the same but the movement even along the prime rail link is limited by code << per the logistics thread >>

• Four times per week if the overland transportation route amounts to 89 - 100
• Two times per week if the route amounts to 49 – 88
• Once per week if the route amounts to 10 – 48

By the time you get 3 X supply across some 20 bases across 50 hexes (??) just to i.e. Hong Kong .... it will take a long time to whittle down 700,000 units of stockpile in Singers and ensure it isn't bouncing back to the largest port syndrome.

There's lots and lots of stuff that doesn't make it into the AAR, 'cause how else can I keep network ratings up?

I've been sending convoys directly from Cape Town to Hong Kong, from West Coast to Hong Kong, from CT and WC to Formosa, WC to Hokkaido, WC to Guam, WC to Manado (pretty well ceased that run), Pearl Harbor to Hokkaido, PH to various Mariana Islands - I guess that should be covering the major current ones. China is flush with supply for now with a minimum stockpile of 4-500k in Hong Kong and lots in the field.

The way I understand supply movement, picking up supply in Singers and sending it to China will, after a while, result in the game thinking it needs to send supply overland to Singers because the player keeps loading it on ships. My first preference, therefore, is to get it to move by land. If I can't I'll ship it.

With zero units of any kind in Singapore, I think a Command HQ within pull range should draw all the supply out of Singpore. So if the supply does not move overland by itself, I'll move (by ship) a Command HQ as outlined before and we'll see how good is my understanding of supply movement.

How "full" are those chinese units that arrived? The "starting" TOE, like at the beginning of the game (250-300 AV for each corp)? Or, emptier than that? Or their full TOE ( I don't think so but I'll ask..), around 700 AV each?

Still it's very good news, you can now use them either for attacking or for garrisoning! Should considerably speed things up in china.

The mines just west of Hakodate have been cleared. Another Imperial naval adventure was spied yesterday and measures were taken. The cruisers missed interception but the destroyers connected. Like Dracula, Agano herself is immortal but her escorts can be sunk.

Either 1/4 or 1/3, I didn't calculate any to check. They seem to be in line with the rule (which is either 1/4 or 1/3, I forget).
