I anticipated that Nagoya would have LRCAP beyond local CAP and that seemed to be the case. Our first B-29 groups (looked like two full groups of 14 planes) took it on the chin, losing all of their ships even though hitting the target. They lost all their planes but more than half the crews were recovered. Following groups benefitted from their sacrifice and hit the target much harder. 19x B-29-1 were lost on the day. quote:
