Poor BB Washington, she didn't make it. A pity that.

Nonsense, she went down fighting during the game changing battles of Cam Ranh Bay that saw Japan crushed. Really, the only significant loss to the Allies.

Now it is a pity that the Allies didn't get to Vinh sooner. But, it will be a bigger pity if Japan has not defended there in depth...

Although, with so many bases to launch invasions from against the coast of China...Vinh might become just another bypassed pocket.

Actually, she went down because she was mistakenly sent in without air support and was hit by kamikaze. She didn't fight at all That's why it's a pity

Not disagreeing but... does it really matter to the allies? I mean, I can understand what was done here, getting Saigon and Bangkok first... I'm a newbie but strategically speaking I would have probably done the same. Also because once that area falls, all the troops that were in the Moulmein area are free to march either east towards china or south towards Singapore... Basically you don't even have to conquer Singapore to send in troops from the india/burma area to other theatres

Our subs only had ASW scuffles.

Quiet in China but tomorrow we will attack SW of Mengtze.

Troops at Bangkok are making their recovery but need at least another day. Tomorrow our lead units in the pursuit will attack mid way between Pisanuloke and Ayuthia. Our LRP Bde made it to defensive positions across the river from Chiang Mai one day before the IJA 146th IR made the crossing.

There is a Japanese unit moving north on road up the peninsula toward Bangkok. Probably the same unit that has been in position there to hold open the door, they might be trying to trap our units in Bangkok without supply. No worries, more Allied units will probably arrive before them and an armoured unit could always be spared to stop them anyway.

The final defensive position on the southern road into Battambang will be assaulted tomorrow by the full force advancing to that city. Coordinated air strikes on those positions are running into Imperial CAP from Battambang! 44 fighters there. Measures will be taken. The support unit near Pakse has been contacted by an infantry Bde and will be attacked tomorrow. North of Hue our armour will rest again, but not to wait for the infantry (which is still on the way). Instead, the USA TD Bn (now cutting the cross roads 2 hexes WSW from Vinh) will leave in 2 or 3 days to get behind the retreating units so they can be trapped against the coast and destroyed.

Vinh itself will not be bypassed. Strong armored units will circle behind it and flank it while the infantry and some armour attack from the front. The defenders will be cut off so they can be destroyed entirely. At Vinh presently are 5 units, 21,120 troops, 87 guns. Seen at Lang Son (presumed passing through there) are 3 units 14,300 troops, 57 guns. Let them all make their way to Vinh!

Our troops at Dili are recovering. Ternate sees exchanged bombardments. On Borneo our IR has completed combat and will resume marching. Pagan folded quickly, certainly due to the months-long aerial and naval bombardments.

What do you consider to be the easy factories & what makes them easy compared to the others?

You get decreasing returns on your manpower attacks...the first fires are always the worst. It is also very difficult to get the fires to wipe out factories other than LI or HI...not impossible, but random hard.

Still, the point multiplier for burnt out factories is huge making manpower attacks very attractive.

OK. That's stuff I appreciated already, so no surprise. I was worried there was something I was completely overlooking! The big targets hit so far still have an overwhelming percentage of Manpower intact, so I think it'll be a while before the impact gets severe.

There is now movement seen leaving Vinh toward the north. An additional Imperial unit of undetermined nature has been spotted just west of Vinh. Possibly DAW HQ has realized that we have the resources to surround Vinh and will pull back before we can do so. Two infantry divisions and two armored battalions are now on the road (strategic movement) to Udon Thani and should arrive there in 5 days or less barring interference. Quinhon air base is size 3 + 83% and expansion is rapid. More engineers are on the way to keep up the pace, as are a number of base units for that field and the ones to the north so support the drive into China.

Our assault transports brought the Torres Strait Bn to Brunei as mentioned earlier, and the transports were on their way before dawn. Unseen, an IJN force made a dash to intercept them! Fortunately the Japanese warships were intercepted by escorts. Unfortunately most of those escorts were escort carriers. The aircraft came from Jesselton.

Yeowch..... so much damage from a single CA... do they mount railguns? You can obviously afford it considering the date and everything else, but still it's a pity. I imagine that TF came from Singapore?

Also, a completely uneducated guess if I may. Regarding those B29... losses seems pretty high. Are those losses due to fighters or flak? If the second... perhaps trying to fly higher might be good? I mean, you did lose quite a few of them... Maybe trying to set altitude to 20k or 25k could reduce the amount of flak they face significantly.

Also, congratulations on taking Bangkok!

Banzai, Mikuma, Banzai!

What a great battle report! Well, from a JFB point of view.

Holy, B29 losses. You are flying them into weak fighters (only 2 cannons per ftr) wait till you fly into something better.

Great updates, lots happening, and Japan can still surprise!

PS: Congrats on taking Bangkok!

Thanks! Walter said that he has some pretty good pilots there in the Tojos and they actually missed an upgrade to Franks. I imagine they would have done better in Franks?!

The way I look at it the losses now are an investment as long as I am knocking down meaningful industries. I figure that getting a lot of LI and HI will reduce supply available to the Empire. The factories of various sorts are certainly good but at the moment I want to put a big dent in supply for sure.

Yeowch..... so much damage from a single CA... do they mount railguns? You can obviously afford it considering the date and everything else, but still it's a pity. I imagine that TF came from Singapore?

Also, a completely uneducated guess if I may. Regarding those B29... losses seems pretty high. Are those losses due to fighters or flak? If the second... perhaps trying to fly higher might be good? I mean, you did lose quite a few of them... Maybe trying to set altitude to 20k or 25k could reduce the amount of flak they face significantly.

Also, congratulations on taking Bangkok!

Thanks!

Almost all of the losses these past two bloodbaths were from air to air (check the air losses graphics I posted). I think I am OK on altitude vs flak at the moment. Maybe when he deploys a bunch of bigger flak guns that will have to change.

I don't even know if that TF came from Singapore or Manila - that's how un-spotted they were - but I'm guessing it came from Singapore.

I have a question about your strategy if you don't mind. I know your next big target is okinawa, both for the strategic bombers you can house there in order to directly hit the home islands and because you can use that base to almost completely isolate the home islands from shippings and such as well (I would imagine once you take Okinawa, the only possible shipping he can do will be from Korea...)

Apart from a possible big repair shipyard close to the action (Singapore or Hong Kong? Doubt he has expanded Manila), which I imagine you would not mind, is there something else/some other base you feel you really NEED in order to further your strategy? Just curious.

Well, "need", maybe not. Others have hit some sizable islands nearer to Korea, so I suppose even Okinawa could be neutralized and bypassed. I've included Okinawa for the reasons you stated plus it will support an invasion of Kyushu. I have units prepared for (I think) all the smaller islands surrounding Okinawa, so it will be a big base complex even though most bases will be smaller than Naha and Nago.

I mentioned more recently that I've decided to also invade Formosa. I'm betting that the need to reinforce China after the Allies have trapped and destroyed/are destroying so many combat units will result in a much smaller garrison on Formosa than I would otherwise find there. Most of those forces will be divisions and armor that was 'lent' to SEAC by SoPac and PacAO. They (presumably) won't be needed for the Okinawa region campaign as a full complement is already prepared.

The troops for Okinawa are ready to go, the transports are pretty much ready, I am just waiting on warship repairs and upgrades as I expect a crap-storm of kamikazes in that region. One thing I have not yet decided on is Daito Shoto. I do plan to capture it and have forces prepared. The question is: do that before Okinawa, or suppress it by air and move directly to Okinawa to achieve better tactical surprise?

I am very much a newbie at the game, but I would still like to say what I think is reasonable from a strategic point of view. Hope I'm not spouting nonsense :P

Oh I missed that part about Formosa. I think it would be nice if you take it. Though well, I think that if you take Okinawa, Formosa will not be a critical gain for you because a properly reinforced Okinawa will still be a considerable interdiction platform against Japan. But still it will be nice and useful in further isolating mainland china at least. Or as a support against a possible invasion of Hong Kong, if you ever go there.

I would go for Okinawa first, 100%. Undoubtedly he has planned for a possible invasion on all the Japanese islands, but still. If you go for Daito Shoto first, you may give him those 2-3 days of advance warning he could perhaps use to move more forces to protect okinawa. I'd go for Okinawa first, because unless the mod you use is very different from stock, as a base Daito Shoto is a lot less valuable for you. Think of how much you surprised him in thailand/indochina. Even a very partial surprise in your move for Okinawa could be a great gain for you, I think.

Again, barring something noobish I'm not considering

Thanks. Daito Shoto can also be shut down by B-29 so no naval bombardments are wasted when they are needed most at Okinawa.

Waste of B29s I think.

How many combat B29 squadrons do you have in striking range of the Empire? What are their sizes in planes?
