If you disband the fort units in that Finnish hex the SU's automatically go back to the HQ ( Northern Front )

For your restart you may want to try to defend Mogilev with your turn 1 movements, so the armaments factories can be evacuated on turn 2. This may require some defense of the eastern side of the Berezina river...not a full defense but just enough to prevent panzers from walking over it and moving next Mogilev on turn 2.

I'd be looking at those HQs inside the marshes; any with no divisions under their command can be disbanded early...and again, any support units go back to the Army HQ or Front HQ.

Yeah, I checked out the Northern Front immediately after I disconnected them from the fronts and they were in the Northern Front
just like you said they would be.

This is a good thought and a good idea BUT I went back to the turn 2 saved game file to do the restart. I don't know why I didn't just
start all over but I didn't. It's not too late however, I CAN go back to the beginning to do it all over again. I guess I thought turn 2 was
early enough.

I somehow seem to run out of enough AP's to disband them. Maybe I should re-think that and go ahead and disband them. It's a good
idea because that way we'd recapture the men and equipment back to the pool(s).

@RandallW has a good idea that I re-start from the absolute beginning and do it all over again. So I will. Here's the settings I'm going

Here's the T1 front lines. This time the AI captured Riga and held it.

For the pocket on the left I thought I'd put out a screen and circle the wagons with the rest.

I managed to isolate the 13th and 14th Panzer divisions. It might not do any good but it felt good.

I just restarted with the AI settings at 110% and the results for T1 look almost identical. I have 1 more unit left in the North than you do. The Center and South are also pretty much identical.

Cool. Let's keep comparing our games to see how long it seems identical.

Also, I just now upgraded to the 1.05.63 version so it might not stay so closely matched.

I also am using the latest patch. I think the main difference is how it will react to our tactics as I'm sure they will be different. My main interest is how it will do in the South during the Winter.

You might want to turn ground support off....having it on will get some bombers to help out but you'll lose lots of planes overall.

Umm.........turning off the ground support will cause the ground dudes to have to go it alone and they have their hands full as it is. Plus, I'm thinking that all the furballs that occur during GS missions will cause some Axis air losses without my having to do air base strikes. I have lots of planes and even though the fighters are not the top-of-the-line types yet they can get some kills. I've found an I-16 and a Yak-1 that have 12 kills each so far.

I'm not sure how those I-16's have that many kills....maybe the German pilots had only one working eye.

While I was moving my units I think I may have succeeded in isolating his spearheads down south.

I upgraded all the I-153's that would convert, to Lagg-3's, Yak-1's, and Mig-3's in that order. The only two air groups that wouldn't
convert are those two way down south on an air base that is frozen. Other than that, they would be gone too. I'm thinking I need to
use the rest of the AP's in buying some SU's for the Army HQ's.

Not much you can do for the big Western Front pocket except maybe something this:
Move combat units to good terrain or something with a fort level
Move HQs to the middle, so the combat units keep as much supply as possible
