I finally managed to grab a LTN gate.......took long enough. And already used all the available slots and need more. LOL

Not sure who crashed and burned, but they flew a ton of routes out of BWI to Europe. I am all over those now. Added another 10 mil a day to my profit total.

China Matrix has managed to make contact with the major Asian carrier Jin Air and worked out a route sharing program. I am only going to fly a 1 day into shared routes, but it is better than kicking that sleeping dog by bulling my way onto the routes. Said carrier has given me carte blanch with prior notice to slide onto any solo routes owned by Jin Air. Just said to send a list of any routes I want and will make room for me.

The US is a major dog fight all the way around. Getting hard to decide what a/c to order because you never know what route will be open by the time the plane arrives. The A319-100 is not very profitable, so other than the extra 400 miles you get, stick with the A320-200. But the A319-200 looks really nice with that 4800 mile range.

Did not have any long range AC available to fly from Luton (that damned airfield is too short for my 747s).
Yikes, being AFK for a few days really creates alot of work when you get back...
Been looking over a total of 1700 routes to see if any were under attack, been finding routes for 70 AC in allready filled up worlds, and ordered a total of 70 new AC...
Now I think I can wait untill tomorrow to log back in

In R5, the airline Vueling, based in Spain, she'd a bunch of larger capacity/range planes into the used plane bin.

Thei airline Is currently ranked 139th and has routes flying into the US (and one to Brazil that I am trying to find now)

One (or more) fairly good sized airlines went bust overnight as the bin is loaded within planes. Both my R5 airlines managed to pick up. Number of long range aircraft (777-200s and 767-300ERs). I do take pleasure in sating that my Euro airline, 7B, is now flying routes into both Asia, as well as the United States. The extra income from these long routes will be needed in the lead up to Open Skies That is soon to kick off in Europe.

I jumped some routes into Spain that Vueling had.

My biggie want is another LTN gate or 2.........if TL doesnt grab the routes. There are 300+ pax routes to the US empty.

Plus some going into Scotland and Ireland. They both have some really sweet routes to the US.

Might want to wait and see who will be allowed into EU territory after open skies before getting antsy. And you might want to check if you can build terminals there outside your home country. A lot of Euro airports have no gates for lease at all.

Aye. Knowing if we can build terminals outside our home country will be key

It will be major factor. Like I said, I know of a ton of empty routes but no gates to lease.

Lack of AC that fit the AF in Luton AND can reach the US, so go for it

I'm not sure if this was an anomaly or what, but I my Romanian airline 7B managed to build gates/terminal in Estonia at TLL.

I was just checking it out and the gates were all used up. So for shiggles I tried to build a terminal there and it worked.

Not very cost effective though. Cost me around $6 million and I managed to send 4 routes to it from my home country of ROmania. The busiest route though was a total of 94 pax, for a DoP of $28,400.

I now have:
Slots Available: 211 of 250 (5 gates owned)

Would be curious if anyone else can fly in there using those gates/slots I built. Do our Turkish alliance members want to give it a shot?

Since I already have the little "accident: in Estonia, I suppose I should claim Estonia as a target for Open Skies.
Might also make sense to go with Lithuania next door.

PS. Just noticed that my color coding was not entirely accurate.
Belarus should also have been yellow.

Here is something crazy:

Just picked up a plane in the bin.

Here is the info related to this:

Now, who can name the owner of the airline that lost this plane?

PS I was oh so tempted to use that plane on the following route:
GRU - BDL

But I decided not too.....

I would have..........if it was his route, it just adds insult to injury.

That would be a dev......probably Yuxi.........but no telling really. Who ever it is, has been a pain in my butt in the US. I thought about sending Meus to whip up on him. LOL

But he has been getting whipped in China. LOL.......I clobbered a couple of his routes. LOL

I been waiting on my airline to just vanish. LOL

This is odd. There's weird things happening in R5. For example the player orbit has terminals in both Spain and Italy as well. I've just checked and I can't build any outside of turkey

I'm busy right now on my Brazilian airline swapping in newer planes to replace older ones that I will sell.

Once I make a dent into that, I will return focus to Europe and "experiment" with a few more of those gates to see if I can repeat what happened. If it works, it would be nice to get that out of the way just before the Open Skies change.

Not sure about you but 2 German airlines (Sith Air and SEK European Airlines) have been a persistent pain in the - - - on my Brazilian long haul routes into Germany. Everyone has way too many flights, and prices are continually being nickle and dimed ever lower. I've now decided to swap in every new 777-200ER I get in on those routes for 767-200ERs and 747-400s. On some routes it has slightly decreased my # of pax & share, but it has slightly improved my DoP.

Have the Turkish airlines had a similar experience?
Do you have flights going into Germany and the same sort of thing with those two airlines?

Sith air has been a pain and I fight him always. SEK and I seem to have an unwritten agreement as we haven't contested on any route bar one. There's certainly weird stuff happening with airlines being able to open terminals in other countries. Grrrrrrrr

Well, it will not let me open terminals outside the US at all. Not even in San Jaun PR and that is a US territory.

Sith is a pain everywhere........SEK is a pain but not as big as Sith.

Chi-------don't forget about long haul out of that short runway Sao Paulo........I think there is a 777 with the right engine setup that can fly from there.

I tend to agree on the Sith / SEK comment. Sith is more annoying than the other. Just going by memory but I don't seem to recall that Sith invests much in IFE so that is one leg up on him (I believe that SEK does however).

I am well aware of the 777 factor in short runway Sao Paulo. I had ordered them before the 777-200ER came online. Now all my 777-200 orders are for the ER model. I have some random 777-200 pickups from the bin, but most do not have the right engine. There is also a 767-200 with the proper engine configuration that will fly out of there, albeit at a shorter distance. It has been GOLD because no one has been contesting those long haul routes out of that city. In this R-5, there are no prop planes that fly that distance, and no one else seems to be configuring their jets to be able to.

I had kept this in mind in 02 and made sure that my first 767-200 orders included a batch that (with the proper engines) could fly out of there (as well as certain US short runway airports). In O2, I am still competing with props that have long range capability.....

I am doing the same thing. I ordered a batch of 767-300 to fly out of Chicago Midway to some Europe airports. Just waiting on the few 777-300 to arrive so I can grab some more with proper engines.

Also in the R5 news..........Fly Yellow will shortly be joining us. That is Dixie here on Matrix. He is currently in Star Alliance, but I expect him to be shifting to us. Received a PM asking if we had room for him. Told him all Matrix are welcome.

767-200

The 767-200 in O2 are a bit more tricky to place as you are competing with jets. I have experimented on a handful of (uncontested) routes subbing in a 767-200 for props and it resulted in a cut in DoP.

I am, for the time being, looking to use them onlyon new routes, and onlyif the route is uncontested.

Perhaps an insane long term strategy would be to hoard up every long distance prop plane that finds its way to the bin and hope that enough players do not realize the restrictions until it is too late--- <evil devilish grin>

Have no objections to another Matrix player joining our alliance. I presume you clued him in on our alliance strategy/style of play.

Hello guys, I've sent my membership request so hopefully I'll be seeing you soon.

I don't think I'm on any of the routes that the alliance is currently flying, but I have picked up several long haul routes from Luton into the US after building my own terminal there. I'm hoping that operating from there will give me a decent set of routes away from SkyBlue who seems to be operating on most of the half decent destinations from East Midlands where I set up.

Not a lot.....it is all posted here in the thread. LOL

Request approved and he is now one of us. TL Lines is operating out of England too. So you two will be partnered up Dixie. Mutual protection etc. Open Skies will/should open all of Europe to you and then R6 (Chijohn 2nd airline) will also be in the area.

O2, I have taken a 3 mil a day hit converting over to jets off the prop plane on long haul. That hurts. But hey, I figure when all said and done (if the game lasts long enough) I will still be above 100 mil a day. LOL

R5:
A terminal is for sale in Miami - wonder if a non-US airline could buy it?
Worldlines (ranked 21, US) has lost a couple of planes for non-payment

O2, R5:
Efforts being made to replace old airliners. This is fiddly where new planes are larger and faster than before.

Well, did not see the terminal listed with my China airline, but there was a 15 gate terminal at PVG for sale. I already had a 10 terminal there. Just added 5 gates to my existing because someone is about to crash. Found a few routes under capacity by 50% and the others crushed under competition.

Regarding Worldlines, my Euro airline "7B" picked up one of this repo'd 767-300ERs.

Worldlines has 6 routes coming into Brazil.

One was already contested by me, but the remaining were not.

If he is losing planes, he is vulnerable.

I am going to immediately contest the other Brazil routes of Worldlines......

Welcome Dixie,

I have 2 airlines in the R5 game:
Siebenburgen, based in Brazil, and
7B, based in Europe out of Romania.

Open Skies is only a year away (gametime).

I have posted some info earlier in this thread regarding countries that may be available for expansion into once the gates are lifted.

gmg air based in Spain is losing planes left and right. He just lost 8 long haul Airbus. So feel free to jump all over him.

Meuse, I jumped a few routes that you both were on. Hopefully it did not toast you too bad and should balance out once he dies.
