Other news....

Well it all seems to be going to plan, but the limited visibility of units is really proving problematic in trying to intercept Historikers interdiction missions.
They appear, a few shots are fired, and then they vanish like ghosts, evading pickets like they do not exist.

The score is slowly pulling away in terms of base points, so thats something to celebrate.

I've been lucky so far in that not one of Historikers raids has caught any of my troopship TF's.
Lets hope this run of luck continues

On to Bataan....BANZAI!!

Doesn't anyone have any Zeppelins over here? I know the US had some, and couldn't Japan had bought or developed a few?

What ever happened to all of these Chinese ships that seem to be causing so much havoc here? Were they gone by the time Japan started messing with China in the 30's?

Shouldn't some of them be in AE? Maybe on both sides as some must have been captured by the Japanese? :) It would be nice to have a few older coastal protection vessels with big guns. Maybe not that useful, but fun. I'd like to have the Thai navy involved too.

I wish I had some Zepplins. The problem for the Japanese at this point is that they have large transport TF's, hovering Surface fleet TF's ( again quite large ) to protect the transports.
These are providing large juicy targets for any sub in the areas concerned, while the Chinese CL's are equipped with stealth technology ( or so it seems ), having the ability to avoid the pickets, become invisible to Escorting TF's, and the uncanny ability to absorb more damage than the Yamato.

The plane with the longest search range ( for the Japanese ) is the 4 engine Felixstowe, a sort of forerunner of the Short Sunderland flying boat, that has the massive search radius of 2 hexes. Not exactly brilliant.

The only good that has come of all this is that the transport TF's have not been stopped or damaged.

I'll get those Chinese junks if its the last thing I do.

( shakes fist and starts playing the bagpipes ).

Maybe they were trying to keep the game simple, but there are some better options out there even earlier than your game time. And I literally searched for two minutes to find them. There may be a lot more.

The Curtis plane even made a transatlantic flight! Granted, only one plane out of several that set out made it, and only 10 were produced. Still, the technology was there.

Are any of these in the queue or is there an editor for this game?

Here is the Felixstowe F2 Patrol plane as it appears in War Plan Orange. That range is almost as good as it gets.

The aircraft in the game make the Nate look fantastic!!

There is an editor, but Historiker and I just wanted a 'fun' game to play as a sideline to our AE GC's.
We will just have to make do with what we've got, so I can't moan too much ( but I'll give it a good go!! )

The database itself has many flaws, which are IMO the result of inaccurate research or no research at all.
But this might indeed be intended to turn the game totally to the BB focus.

BTW:
There is a database editor. So one might think about adding some airpower and doing a few fixes, like adding the french fleet.
To counterbalance it, one might even think about a scenario where there wasn't a WW1 and Germany is still in Tsingtao and holds her Colonies. Siding with Japan, the High Seas Fleet might somehow come to aid - ignoring the fact that it would be need in Europe when at war with GB.

The only question is:
Is it worth it? I mean, creating such a mod would take serious time, and who can be expected to play this mod anyways?

From what I've seen of the game, it looks like that was what was intended.

I also agree that it looks like it has flaws, but hey!! its great fun!!

Just want to let you guys know that I'll be staying away from any Wake Mutton I see on the grocery store shelves.

I bought this game a while ago and always liked the concept. Wasn't someone working on a WPO AE mod? That would be cool.

Cheers,
CC

There is a little bit of traffic on the WPO site about a mod, but its very quiet, most of the time.
One of the joys of the game is that because of the lack of range of aircraft, ships can sail about relatively unimpeded most of the time.

Submarines are proving to be the most frightening foe so far, Historiker has lived upto his forefathers skill in submarime deployment.

After some devastating submarine attacks, the Japanese High Command almost became paralysed into inaction by the fear of submarines, commonly known as periscopitis.

As to Wake Mutton, never eat suspicious lumps of meat if the staff are under the command of a Bavarian Beer Monster!!

Here is the Glorious 19th Div, but that figure of 918 seems to be misleading.
It has added everything ( support/Art/Eng etc) together to get to that figure, but strangely has not done it for the other units. Peculiar!!
