2/18/42 Changsha has fallen. That has never happened to me before. I dare say it will not be the last thing. On the bright side, this went exactly according to my plan. The Japanese are quickly falling into my trap.

Now for your mythology lesson for the day. Here in the magnificent Republic of South Canada, we have a myth which is celebrated on Feb. 2 each year, called "Groundhog Day", where a poor little fat woodchuck is hauled out of its burrow to observe the snow, and if it sees its shadow, we will enjoy 6 more weeks of winter (or something like that). The Japanese have something very similar, but it involves the Sun Goddess Amaterasu who is hiding in a cave out of fear (that's another story) and the other Gods are trying to coax her out. I will pretend this is occurring on February 17 for the sake of the story. Now the Dawn Goddess (what's her name) begins a bawdy dance in front of the cave in an attempt to draw Amaterasu out....

Now the other Gods found this so hilarious that they laughed and laughed. Amaterasu took a peek out of her cave to see what all the commotion was about, and spied her own reflection in a mirror hung from a tree by (what's her name). This caused her to come forth in all her glory, and the day was saved! I bring you this story on the occasion of the fall of Changsha, as the state of the Japanese Imperium always seems darkest before the dawn. As in the movie "Groundhog Day", this is to be repeated ad infinitum. But today they will rejoice and only calm down when Amaterasu goes hiding back in her cave. I will discuss the Moon Goddess when the time seems appropriate, perhaps when the IJN night optics prove superior to the USN radar, at this stage in the game.

vontiger will be on vacation thru the 16th. He says he'll try to laptop me some turns during that time, but I wouldn't expect to see any of his detailed reports. I'll try to fill in if there's any interesting battles. Here's a baseline for you.

There were earlier (false) reports that Chokai had sunk. I didn't believe them at the time.

I will file other reports on current developments when OPSEC allows. I believe there may be some interesting stuff about to happen.

vontiger hasn't gotten this far - 2/16 so I thought I'd show it. I'm not sure I understand what happened here, nor do I know what vontiger makes of this. The report doesn't show that the P-40s actually successfully intercepted. They were all on 100% general training anyway. I didn't think of screen capping the inquiry screen that would have shown them to be air-air or op losses. If anyone has any thoughts, please speak up.

There was no Buna attack on the 19th, he duplicated the 18th attack in error. I'm occasionally finding large discrepancies between his reports and mine, but I don't trust the reports I'm receiving, so

2/23/42 The following bit of humor is not intended to disparage anyone who actually fought at Bataan

Bataan has fallen. The most prominent cause of this was the Japanese' miraculous ability to destroy all supplies on the ground from the air. You would think the bombs would have missed often enough and killed a lot more soldiers. All of the canned peaches and frozen strawberries were blown to smithereens!

Manila still holds, but they still have quite a bit of avocados and cream.

Yeah I'm having the same thing with my game... My Catalinas and Devastators report hitting SS' @ Midway nearly every turn, but the same 2 subs keep attacking my shipping and ASW ships... I'd think the ASW air was winning the war if the results didn't speak for themselves!

Sorry about that, I do miss lines some times in my post. I always post from the combat reports. For instance that Buna attack combat report was 8 loses however my air claims were 28 or so and actually watching the attack it was 25 P-40Es shown as shot down. It all depends on what report/vision you have.

2/23/42 It's very quiet. Too quiet. Every time I check my forces, its like they're frozen in amber. Come to think of it, my calendar isn't advancing. Let me check my email and see if there's any reports there.

Oh, my god, HE's BAAACK! (temporarily)

Here's the current status in Burma. Notice I switched out those IJN sunburst battle flags for IJA flags.

3/1/42 Fierce air battles going on over PM and Darwin, little else happening for the past 10 days or so. I wonder if WIAs ever come back? If someone knows, please say so, don't make me start a new thread.

I dont claim this as knowledge, I think I remember someone said WIA's are variable return dates. I believe they said it was quicker (or felt like it) if they were placed in TRACOM.
Good luck with it.

Nothing interesting to report today, so I'll celebrate the discovery of the Higgs boson. The following image was captured by an Atomic Force Microscope.

I haven't heard from Jason since the 13th, he was supposed to be back at work on Monday the 16th, but in Brisbane now it's the 18th. When he started his vacation I didn't hear from him for several days, but between the 11th and the 13th we got 8 turns in. I'm starting to get really worried.

edit 7/18 He saw my post and emailed me that he's still alive, but exhausted (aren't we supposed to go to work to get exhausted?).
He said on the turns he did in Townsville he skipped all the routine maintenance stuff, so it may take him a couple days to send me the next.

By Jove Geoff, THATS what you've been doing wrong all this time!

Obviously you are not a govt. worker - the recipe for success is to recover from your excesses of the night before, or vacation, or weekends at work. Telling tall tales around the water cooler until break time of course! Filing grievances against people who actually work at thier job to keep you from looking bad. And finally getting promoted because you have intimidated everyone -including the boss- that you will make thier lives a living hell if you don't get this promotion!

PS to Vontiger - I certainly don't mean to direct this at you... This was my slapstick comeback at Geoff's sarcasm as I read it.
