Status: offline 		Warsprite, how is the british faring(playing wise, I know the score)? the usual underpreforming selfs?

Watching the France Sweden game and well i know they are through, but 2nd in group gota play Spain. I would go for a win and the french have been "playing" disappointingly to say the least.

Perhaps that's the big difference between the Greatest (Brazil, Germany and Italy) and the rest. They almost always manage to produce minimum a team with standard players. When you add to this an exceptional player (and this is pure luck as no factory can produce talent) that makes them almost unstoppable. It's not only the WCs they have won... It's the finals and semi-finals... Regularity that is.

Whilst the other teams produce [perhaps] one (or two if you're lucky) exceptional players + some standard players + mediocre players...

But in the end the best players must play. Always

I can't see any point at all with that one. But some experts claim that it makes the players somewhat more honest around the penalty area.

I know. My guts tell me Italy and Germany are rather dangerous these days. I suspect Spain is going to implode (à la Holland) with some stabbing in the back (Barcelona and Real Madrid players that is).

Status: offline 		I agree. Let's face it, we're England - it's going to be tough whoever we play, and our record against the "big boys" in tournament football is pretty dire. On balance of course you would prefer Italy to Spain, but that does not mean Italy should be treated with anything other than the utmost respect.

Let's just hope we don't embarrass ourselves.

Status: offline 		It's a dead cert England will beat Italy, probably after being totally outplayed. Pure footie physics, in major tournaments England and Germany drift inevitably towards each other like a dying supergiant star and a black hole. Unfortunately the Germans get to be the black hole.

Status: offline 		The only thing England has going for them (and I admit - it's a biggy) is that they can put the ball in the back of the net. That's what it is all about. Beautiful football, loads of possesion, and heaps of pressure get you nowhere if you cannot score.
