Draw for the League Cup Quarter-Final. Three no-premiership teams left in. Guess who gets the only all-premiership clash ?

Oh well, there's always next year

To win the cup you need to knock them out anyway. So better now than later, eh?

OR we could have played Bournemouth in the Quarters, Sheffield United in the Semi's and Derby in the Final

Mind you, we'd probably lose to Bournemouth anyway

I believe Sheffield United could make it to the semis, I believe Derby County could reach the final...but no, I do not believe Spurs could win the cup

Spurs vs Villa today. A defeat, or even a draw, against a team that has lost 5 league games on the trot - without scoring a single goal - will be a real shocker.

However, Spurs have previous - West Brom hadn't won a game this season until they came to WHL. Newcastle had not won away until they visited us, so.....

So how does FIFA continually get away with their dodgy dealings? How can they produce a report that the person who did the investigating for claims "contains numerous materially incomplete and erroneous representations of the facts and conclusions" and seemingly get away with it? What does it take to bring down this disgusting bunch?

Can England win 10 qualifiers in a row? Unlikely but they are still in with a shout after tonight

Shame about Northern Ireland

Well done to Scotland

When do Wales play

I am disappointed by the Scottish referee. I expected more but he folded like a cheap suit to the pressure from the home fans.

Was very surprised how germany only just managed to defeat Gibraltar. 4:0. They were expecting double figures. Well played Gibraltar.

The money spent on Gareth Bale... what an absolute disgrace. Whoever authorised these signings needs to do the decent thing.

That seems to be common in most clubs. If they have money they are way to eager to spend it fast on questionable purchases.

I think Liverpool fell into the same trap this year with the Suarez money. But that is no consolation. Just look at the expensively gathered motley crew:

- Eriksen
- Paulinho (the worst Brazilian midfielder ever?)
- Chadli
- Capoue
- Chiriches
- Soldado
- Lamela

The cost of the last two are the real killers.

Could it be that the team does not use the strength of the players? Or that the level of frustration is to high so that the teamwork suffers? Or are they just rubbish?

Who knows? You have to assume that the people authorising the purchase actually saw them play and thought they were worth the money. But:

Eriksen - how do you get to his age, playing Champions League football every year, and not get picked up by one of the big clubs if you are THAT good?

Paulinho - no doubt you saw for yourself in the World Cup just how ineffective, how poor this guy is?

Capoue - was going to sign for Cardiff City! and we "hijacked" the deal......

Chadli - contributing more this season there is no doubt, and for £7m probably okay as a squad player

Chiriches - real shame, he is obviously talented on the ball; but just too many costly mistakes

Soldado - his goal scoring for Valencia suggested something special. His goal scoring (and lack of ball control) for Tottenham suggests he should be playing in a lower division

Lamela - simply.not.good.enough. No idea how he scored all those goals for Roma??

I know instances when a club just bought a "star player" on a recommendation. Another where they bought him after just watching a video montage. They didn't even watch an entire match. Just the best part of several matches. I bet on that they can get plenty of players look like a world class player in a montage.

Having a good team who decide on what players to buy who also considers how the player would fit into the club is very important. But, unfortunately, that do seem to disappear when they have to much cash on hand.

Edit: And the transfer window closing when the club needs to buy new players and they have not been able to sign the players they wanted makes for strange purchases.

Or you can do as Ipswich, and fail to sign Diego Maradona, Ruud Gullit, Paul Gascoigne and John Barnes

Chelsea has done rather well so far this season. Is this just the result of parking the bus? I haven't really seen how they play this season.

I haven't really been watching them either. I think that they have played more attacking football (based on the scorelines) - simply because they have such a good team. No doubt when the situation calls for it - away to Manchester City or Real Madrid for example - he will play a defensive, counter-attacking game, but then that is the quality of a great manager; he has plans B and C to call up.

The usual sense of foreboding is upon me. Yes, it's the football Christmas fixtures - that time of year when teams whole seasons can evaporate

Tottenham have bottom club Leicester City (usual Tottenham banana skin) and then top club Chelsea followed by Manchester United Then, at the start of December, it's the FA Cup 3rd round. In a repeat of the 1962 Final we face Burnley.

I fear the worst........l

Fun, fun, fun.

Even if there is a feeling of dread before the matches.

Here the next football match is months away.

As a wise man once said "It's a funny old game in'nit?"

7 points from the Christmas games and back above Arsenal! That is as good as it is unexpected

Fun that our morning TV they have shown clips from the recent Tottenham match. Every 30 min they have shown the goals. Plenty of times in other words and since it was plenty of goals that is a lot of Tottenham.
