I don't remember what I was thinking when I ordered this BB-heavy TF to wander so close to LBA's. I'd better back those ships out of there before the Dutch air force finds the secret combination to the air-to-ship shooting. They came pretty close with these bomb solvoes. Maybe I could move the CV TF in closer for some LRCAP of some kind. Although I can't imagine getting the CV's in under the umbrella of the LBA would be a good idea either. Sure would like to take out some of those Allied ships though. Maybe I should raid the harbour where they are all parked. Maybe there's a minefield there preventing me. Decisions, decisions.

There's only a Mavis group flying out of Namlae and I need to move some fighters into there pretty quickly because the Catalina's have the range to bother me. And Jim has three of them flying now. I'm going to get a ship hurt if there isn't some air cover PDQ.

But there were Claude's and Zero's at Lae....... so where was the CAP? Maybe I need an airbase land unit in Lae or something. Jim's got 5 B-17's operating in this AO and he's going to eventually hit something, maybe something important so I need to sort out the lack of CAP problem.

I believe I'm about to lose 3 AK's for no good reason. I was shooting for the port NW of Port Moresby along the coast and I didn't figure in some LBA's besides the 2 B-17's I knew about. Ooops. Miscalculation on my part. Fortunately, the forces involved aren't all that high..... some three AK's and a small land force. I might not even get to land them at the beach either.

I've got 31 Nate's based at Samar so I'm not sure why there wasn't more of a CAP in this instance. Nate's aren't much of a fighter compared to P-40's but they are better than nothing I guess. But there is no protection when they don't fly. Maybe I need some air field ground unit in the airbase hex or something.

Those guys at Kendari can use some reinforcement before any DA-ing is attempted.

This is what I'm curious about... Tracker only seems to "track" certain turns. I've gone and tried to figure what, if anything I'm doing different for these turns opposed to the rest. Any ideas? can I go back and "get" the missing turns? I enclosed a pix of the list...

On the home front - I'm glad to get to 1942. I havent lost any carriers and ship repairs are going well so far. The "old" BB's are mostly beyond repair and just taking up space in PH, but I can't make myself scuttle them and give up the VP's. Right or wrong folks?

Looking at streamlining my cargo TF's to a hub and spoke system instead of trying to cover 600 TF's all over the Pacific. I understand what geofflambert is saying about autoconvoys, this early in the game it isn't about holding any particular line or stockpiling for the future.

For 1942 I pretty much need 3 HUBS (Pearl Harbor - Sydney - Dutch Harbor/Anchorage) and 15-30 AK's/AKL's at each to accomplish the spoke. TK/AO are going to get protection no matter what, so I just have to figure out where I'm going to make the HUBS for fuel. Comments?

Finally THANKS to all who have read and commented in this AAR +3K reads is more than I ever hoped for when we started, hopefully we have been entertaining and informative for you! I have learned a lot from the AAR's and know I'm not evem one of the middleweights on these threads, but I'm having a blast and wouldn't trade it for any other game...

Are you saving each of the turns...the actual files? If so you can delete the db files and start over reading in each of the files but my understanding is that once you've read in a subsequent turn you can only load turns AFTER that turn. I'm hoping you've saved the files and can start over.

We had a rumble last night ( 2Jan42 ) and some of the ships involved got hurt. I'm hoping this might clear the field for the AK's that are wondering around in this area.

One of my subs at Midway got hit but there was no major damage, however the sub is close enough to Winchester to go back to Kwajalien to rearm and refit. Winchester is for ammo, bingo is for fuel.

The answer is yes I am saving the turns. Exactly which files in the "Save" folder should I be looking for?

Each time you send me a game file I've saved it into the "C:/Reluctant Admiral/Save" file. Each e-mail from you is also is saved in a sub file for just this type reason... I'm wondering if Tracker is looking in the WitPAE save files under "C:Matrix Games" as a default. I am pointing it to the Reluctant Admiral save file but you see in the pix what shows...

BTW - the Catalina's and Devastator squadrons have been reporting subs hit nearly every turn at Midway... Obviously FOW and overeager crewmen are equally misleading!

Um.......each of the files I've been sending you have exactly the same file name so in order to save it long term you would had to rename it or else the subsequent file I send to you will overwrite it.

Each time you send me a game file I've saved it into the "C:/Reluctant Admiral/Save" file.

That's the right place to save it to load it into WITP-AE ( RA 4.2 ) but you can also save it as a different filename into the Tracker directory if you wish. That's where I save mine, although I'm overwriting the file each time in the Tracker folder so as to have just one file to load each time I start up Tracker.

Yeah, but are you renaming the files?

The place where it looks for the files is indicated in the "witptracker.properties" file as a single line entry

Here's the contents of my witptracker.properties file:

Dir=[C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition]
GameType=[1]
Side=[0]
Password=[test]
SaveFile=[wpae022.pws]
SaveMode=[0]
Header=[me vs Jim]
TurnCycle=[1].

Another rumble that gutted both the combatants involved. I'm guessing that only the SS Boise survived but it's hard to say. Only Jim knows. And he's not saying.........so far.

At least the CAP is working at Salamaua. I think these B-17's are coming from the Australian mainland.
