There were originally at least two transports and the last one is getting pasted by the Coastal Defensive Guns. I'll probably lose her too.

And toward the end of that afternoon there was another Jap bombardment attack at Manila. The Allies got shot up somewhat.

Then there was a Jap shock attack near Kuantan that didn't go so well. I guess those guys need a rest now.

Quite by accident just now I found Jim has moved a couple of Allied units into the hex where my Dili base is. There's only an
engineer unit there now and they are quite vulnerable. I've got an INF unit headed into that hex from an adjacent base but
it'll be a day or two until they arrive. So Jim has a window of opportunity here to be a real pest.

Here's a snapshot of the conditions ( fuel / oil / supplies ) for the three major refinery cities: Palembang, Miri, and Balikpapan. This is
the "before" shot. I've made sure that all the refineries are turned on and I want to get an idea what the flow rates are for the goodies.
So I'll compare this shot with one I'll make on 7Feb42 and we'll compare the levels and see what the flow rates are for one day for each
of the various categories of goodies. And we're well on our way to getting 10K of supplies in each of the cities that need repair so that's
one thing not to worry about anymore for a while. I'm shipping some shipping engineers to Palembang to help with the handling of the
goodies getting them on and off the ships. They have a new parking pavilion and I've put in some searchlights so they can work at night
as well as the day. You should see the ginormous clouds of bugs that gather around the searchlights at night. I've seen guys with sacks
catching the bigger of the bugs for the stew tomorrow. Yum.

Here's the situation on the southern end of Java. I think I'm having to concentrate on the hot spots and neglect the cold spots for now.
I've spread the ground troops out rather badly but I think I can get organized and sort this out to make a perimeter of sorts between me
and Darwin to my southwest. There's a lot of transports that are going to become available shortly because they are just about done
with lowering the fuel level at Palembang ( to avoid spoilage ). I've already instigated hauling supplies to Miri and Palembang to help
them stay over the 10K limit for now. That will speed up the availability of the empty transports to carry troops outward and help me do
some fill-in of fuel and supplies behind the front lines. There's lots of spots that have needs yet and I'm not really sure where they are
but I have ways of finding out so that's not a problem. All-in-all I think things are running rather well. Jim is going to surprise me with one
of his tricks, he's trickey that way. Makes for a good game. One of the better opponents so far. I'm having a blast so far.

EDIT: War in the Pacific - Admiral's Edition is one of the better wargames. I don't remember playing a better one.

Jim doesn't know it yet.......or then again maybe he does......that I'm going to have a TF landing late tonight or early tomorrow morning
at Port Moresby. I'm hoping they make the difference that needs to happen. I'm feeling like my guys are getting run over by the Allied
version of SKIDDING CAR and I'm moving some guys and planes to help out. Somewhat. Got my fingers crossed. We've already
started the planning for changes to PM, the facilities and the landscape. Had plans to expand the chow hall to twice the size it was and
that's going to take a couple of days and......well, once we get it, we'd rather not be chased out of our new digs.

Here's a list of the TF's sorted so that supplies descends downward from the max at the top line.....and you can see the bands of
supply headed south. Northbound, not much oil or fuel flowing, so mostly resources headed north and supplies headed south.
I'll see if I can grab some strategic overviews from future turns and maybe we can see the movement patterns. That would be interesting.

I haven't heard from Jim in quite a while and I'm wondering if everything is okie dokie with him. Hope he didn't get sicker than just a
head-cold and a computer virus scare. Maybe we'll hear from him soon. I'll keep you guys posted for any news..

EDIT: I'm putting together a pretty good picture of the flow of things just from the data in this image. I'm wondering if that's because I
tinker with their routes every turn and I'm getting to "know" them ( each individual TF ) by the cargo and locations as they move. So I'm
wondering if you guys can see that picture too, or if you need to have had actually played the game yourself and "knew" the
background, ambiant conditions etc.

Larry,

I'm still here and on the right side of the grass

Just waiting on the turn to come back... Had a couple of interesting turns with TommyG, not combat wise, just reassessing my TF's and bases.

The virus was annoying and made me cautious -Witpqs advice made me go back and check that all my programs are updated. There hasn't been any problems since then, and no response from Symantec as of yet.

You have a TF with 48 ships in it? I don't like reading your info as it makes me feel like I'm cheating. I know your trying to help me, but I will get the upper hand eventually. Your a good opponent and I respect your playing me so keep on truckin and get me the turn!

What response do you expect from Symantec? There's more you need to do to your computer yet?

Yep. It's a short-legged TF with a lot of little-boys in it. as I recall.

Larry,

Its 10:30p ET and I just got finished with my moves and sent the turn to you. I'm frustrated that I cant do more @ Port Moresby and TF after TF keeps coming ashore... I know, I know, its a lost cause for the most part.

I'm happy that Manila and Singers have held out til Feb 42 - that means Jap troops are not elsewhere wreaking havoc amongst the Allies. Accomplishes one of my early war goals.

I'm going to make a three month plan for March-June 42, to see where I can cause the most grief and have the most success...

Here's the spoilage report and as you can see I've almost got Palembang under the magic 129K figure. Now Rota is the biggest
offender. I'll have to send somebody over there to relieve Rota of some fuel.

EDIT: Okay, okay......Rota isn't the biggest offender but you get the point.

Here's the resources report on the home islands. As you can see there was a drop in resources of about 24K from yesterday to today.
That's what I'll have to try to make up from the out-laying cities. Or, I mean, at least that much. I'm guessing.

Oh, and by the way.....before I forget to tell you guys......I'm pulling fuel out of Palembang like crazy. I'm guessing about 100K of fuel
has left Paley in the last three or four days. Most of it headed back to the East and north. A lot of it is spread out in the islands south
of the Celebes. Saigon and Cam Rahn Bay have become hubs for me so far, supplies from Saigon and fuel from CRB. I suppose when
I get bored and don't have any other pressing tasks I can arrange for the fuel to be moved to Saigon too......one stop shopping that way.
Just a thought.

Also before I forget.........I'm slowly learning how to play this game. In the image below I see where location code named Bubble Drop
has a TF w/ 4000 tons of resources in port and it's going, a few days, get a 29K slug of resources from a 15-ship TF headed inbound.
That means I need to dispatch somebody, now, from the Jap home islands to go to Bubble Drop and do a pick-up of the resources.
That way less time for the resources to sit in the stockpiles on the beach doing nobody any good. Also, I've started looking around for
more resources to replace those I'm picking dry right now. I'm crossing my fingers that Palembang, Balikpapan, and Miri can go a long
way to taking up the slack when other more favored ports run dry of resources.

And another thing to come before the combat results: I just now learned that when you have a mixed cargo TF there's a bias in
reporting the fuel not the oil. You can see in the list of TF's that each TF is listed only one time and the fuel is reported but the
oil is not. Just something to keep in mind when going over the cargo's going here and there.

This raid netted only 1/10th of the casualties I was expecting. I have no idea what went wrong so I'm guessing it is a fluke of the
weather or something. Or maybe it's a sign that diminishing returns has set in already and that this TF might be used better somewhere
else.

I'm probably going to have to do some ship-to-shore bombardment to even the odds in this fight. Jim has even got another Allied
ground unit headed to Port Moresby to make the odds even worse for my guys. I'll take a look around and see if I can scrape up
some ships to bombard with and get them there to PM before too long.
