This battle is over - a draw at best. I have destroyed the enemy but failed to advance and I have my own wounds to lick...

Well I owe you a big Thank You redmarkus4. I have APOS and the earlier one and found
a rather more difficult way to do some of the basics and now my life is easier by far.
That was a lot of work and the APOS world is better for your labour.
Thanks again
cheers

Thanks you sir. It's my pleasure and I'm happy to hear that this was of use to you.

I am sure that there are others who will come forward with even better ways to play.

G'day,

Well done, sir. Good job.

If you have the time would it be possible to have a 'how to' on the strategic side? The manual covers moving units on the strategic map, initiating combat but not much else. Very confusing. Particulary reinforcements, replacements and supply.

Cheers,
Lancer

OK. I have made a start on that in another thread, but I will do a step-by-step walk through to illustrate.

Thanks. Please note that I am finding some differences between commands listed in the Manual and those in the game itself. I'll edit as I figure them out.

HINT.

For added realism, try locking your view permanently to the highest command unit on the map and only use that view plus the map view to command the rest of your units. This forces you to move your command unit to points on the map from which you can view the ground, adding to the command delay and exposing 'you' to greater danger.

Very good work to overcome the concerns some player may have, redmarcus4.
I think, this games is a very good one and stands on an equal level in comparison with "Normandy" (or on a higher lever ?).
So hopefully, it gets a wide spread attention in the community.

Yes, I agree. I don't do it all the time (I'd miss the great action scenes!) but if you want to get the sense of what company command might feel like, it's a great way to simulate the confusion and lack of intel.

It's a different game of course, covering a very different front. I own both games, but I was really disappointed when Battlefront decided to return to Normandy instead of doing a remake of CMBB. Until K43 and APOS came out, there was nothing to compare to launching a 1941 offensive in CMBB, in my view.

Both game series sit at the centre of my collection and I will continue to support both. For me, the main differences are:

1. Superior AI in APOS that will adapt to your movements and dispositions, get around your flanks and kick your butt.
2. Better infantry modelling in CMBN, with defenders who stay hidden and who can really ruin your day. The APOS AI infantry are rather suicidal at times - in fact, most of the time!
3. Bigger battlefields and much more replay-ability in APOS; every battle seems to play out differently each time, while CMBN can feel rather scripted.
4. A much better campaign system in CMBN.
5. Much better briefings in CMBN. In APOS you need to figure out your missions for yourself.
6. A much, much easier scenario and campaign editing system in CMBN.
7. A Quick Battle system that really works in APOS, giving you a proper AI challenge, whereas I find the CMBN QBs rather lame.
8. A solid PBEM system in CMBN for when the AI just isn't good enough to keep you guessing. APOS really needs this addition!
9. Bigger deployment areas and tactical options in APOS. In CMBN, many battles start with you already in contact, or close to being in contact, and you have no chance to try different avenues of approach.

Overall, I recommend both of them highly, although I see APOS as being the more advanced of the two. It's good in a way that they cover different theatres so that we don't have to choose between them :)

I totaly agree. I also own both. When Iam in the mood for some Western Front action I choose CMBN and Eastern Front ist for me APOS. I think they could coexist. Also I must say that I think that the terrain in APOS is far more superior to CMBN.

BTW are you German redmarkus? If yes you should look at his excellent AAR for APOS, in German.

Hi - I agree about the terrain. Much more convincing in APOS.

I'm not German and unfortunately I don't speak any German, even though my mother was a German teacher for a few years before switching to French :)

Have a question for anyone that knows. Let say after you do your moves on the op map and you have two battles. You chose your first one, can you move your units in the first battle on the TAC map in such a way to move them toward the second battle area and them get involved in the second battle? Assuming there close enough.

Redmarkus no 001 errors since reinstall, played 5 tac battle so far. I dont have the add-ons installed just the exe. update, the patch thru the game update and the village update. Here's what the my update and version are.

well that picture could of been bigger. It says district update 1.00/ game update 3.04

Hi Budd.

I tried that move yesterday, but it looks like the units end up in their original places on the Ops map, regardless of where they are situated on the Tac map. The Ops map doesn't allow stacking, as you know, and has a limited number of 'slots' for units, so it is probably difficult to move units that way, maybe impossible.

I had another 001 error yesterday when I used the Escape key and tried to save a big battle that was in progress. I'm sensing that this error mostly occurs during big battles, so I think it's memory related.

I'm not sure if its memory related or not, but when i was getting the errors the battles were pretty small.I haven't found any common thread between the circumstances of the error. When i reinstalled i made sure to wipe everything out, removed every trace i could find registry included. I also installed into a new directory in case i missed something. So far [knock on wood] no 001 errors. I'll see what happens once i get to a big battle.

I was getting critical errors too. In each case, it seemed to happen when Russian tanks were present in campaign battles, but not in quick battles. I've taken a break from APOS and gone back to CMBN for awhile waiting to see if the new patch will help the problem.

I notice some small differences between the Matrix version and the Gamersgate 7c version, mostly on the operations map:

1. The 'entrenched icons' are thicker and darker in the Matrix version.
2. The red flashing circle around the battle location flame image is thicker and more artistic in the Matrix version.

So, I am guessing that maybe my Gamersgate update to 7c didn't run correctly?

You can also mount or dismount troops during the setup phase, based on your tactical plan, as well as at any later point in the game.

Just bought APOS and I am learning it, is it possible to mount tanks with infantry? Some screenshots show infantry on tanks but if I select an infantry squad near a tank E key does not work and the Mount button is greyed out...?

PS Redmarkus4, your tutorial are very useful, thanks!

Yes! And it works great!

1. Select an infantry squad.

2. Hold down CTRL key (STRG?)

3. Now select a tank.

4. Click the MOUNT button and wait a few seconds.

Infantry will mount the tank.

To dismount, select the tank (or select the squad in the OOB) and click DISMOUNT.

You can't mount infantry to the tanks while in the deploy phase. Only when combat already started. While deploy you can mount or dismount only squads which have an APC inside.
