I believe it in the bomber role, unless China is still in the game.

However, I would rather have Helens than Lilys or Sonias for ASW duty. That may be another advantage of PDU OFF - it makes it harder for the Japanese to overachieve with ASW.

There are also very few groups that can use the Peggy(T) which some players seem to think is powerful.

Fair point.

But on a more personal level I don´t think having some of the Japanese air ASW capabilities nefered is a bad idea. My 120 subs sunk by it most certainly agrees!

More of nothing...

------------------------
Luzon
------------------------

My bombers strike at the ground troops at Aparri in anticipation of the river crossing in two days. Bombings cause over 1000 casualties and reveal only part of a NavGuards and an AirHQ here.

Erik sends in some sweeps over Luzon hitting empty air.

I have to watch it so I don´t exposed any LRCAP to this or it will cost me the small reserve I built up. I won´t move in the air force until I can do so in big numbers. With and AirHQ and radar.

The first bombardment at Iba shows Erik has flown out a lot of fragments.

Well, two can play that game...I will get the stack down to more manageable numbers and then let it rot. With fragments stuck here he will lack the heavy equipment. He also can´t divide the part flown out so getting it back to strength will take three times as long. Just to annoy him!

I also had some strikes hit a TF just south of Formosa. This is a good example just how utterly poor LBA works against ships in the BETA. Notice the pitiful CAP and the complete absence of any kind of coordination. The strikes took off from Manila. There are 6 Air HQs in place. With the exception of the Avengers all planes have the same HQ (which is present at Manila). The Escorts (P38s with the same HQs as the bombers also in Manila never took off)

Strikes like this enhances my belief that the BBs will be a bigger threat than the Kamiz.

Other then that...not much happening!

Or he will just banzai charge with them until last soldier dies and units will rebuild in Home Islands

I think you could something with your use of subs that would reduce your losses . More than a PDU Off game would.

Sorry, man, but I gotta agree. Some of the screenshots you put up, the sub deployments make me blanch.

You guessed it...more of nothing!

------------------------
Luzon
------------------------

Bombings and sweeps. Erik did another Frank sweep hitting thin air. Will cross the river to Aparri tomorrow. Expecting no problems here.

Erik is doing some crazy lifting somewhere. Never seen him take as much OPS losses in transports before. He is losing 5-10 per day. I can´t figure out where he is lifting though. Must be something really important.

Erik finally got some recon up on Manila. So now he got a good look on the USN minus the CVs which he has sort of spotted at Cotabato (3/10 on a CVE TF). As soon as ships have repaired I´m going to start sending it back to the WC for another haul. I wonder what Erik will think when something like 500 ships disappear overnight. Hopefully a tad nervous.

------------------------
Logistics
------------------------

I just loaded 5x100 ship TFs at San Fran. They will go unescorted besides a couple of SC/PF/DE to Midway. There they will meet up with a bunch of CVEs.

Well...thats it. I guess there won´t be much more than this for a couple of weeks while my troops recover and ships repair. I hope to get some smaller OPs going first week in march. But I´m waiting for the troops to recover from the Manila siege. Despite a TON of support, 2 million supply and two Command HQs recoverment is about 1 squad per day.

While you are reorganizing and waiting for recovery, would a landing in the Ishugaki Islands and/or Batan Islands be out of the question?  If doable at modest risks, these landings might spook your opponent into a firmer belief that Formosa is the target rather than a move to the north (Hokkidate)?  These islands could be seen as a grab for good fighter bases for a move on Formosa, drawing his attention to Formosa rather than sending troops to other places you may decide to visit.  Those islands are so close to Formosa that you might not be able to go there without great risks of a kamikaze blitz, but they do sort of stand out as a precusor to a Formosa landing.  Such a move, if deemed only moderately risky to you, would probably cause a fixation on Formosa.  That would be very vaulable if you go elsewhere.

Feints, jabs, bobbing and weaving serve a purpose in warfare if the risks are acceptable.

While I realize a pause to refresh and build logistics is needed, do not lose your momentum.

Regarding uncoordinated strikes, to my knowledge the aircraft squadrons need to match the Air HQ which then needs to match the base. Thus, my question is whether the relevant Air HQ (or HQs) matches the base (such as Manila being a SW Pacific base which then hosts the 5th Air Force).

Cheers,

I´m assuming you are referring to the checkerboard/carpet I have been using from time to time? In my defense I have to say that that is something I have only done from time to time after mid 44 as an early warning system or in anticipation of a KB rush.

Prior to that I have actually been doing everything pretty much as Speedy has done in his game and he has been very successful. Problem for me was that Erik sent his convoys along the Thai/Chinese coast under heavy ASW air backed up by a big number of ASW TFs. So my choice was to try and operate as best as possible in the area or do nothing. Knowing what I know now though I would probably just have parked them at PH as VP wise it has been a losing affair!

Could I have done better? Absolutely. But I havn´t done THAT bad. Erik has paid A LOT of attention to the way he has routed his TFs, TF compositions, ASW TFs, and the most important thing is that he has probably sent 80% of all TFs under a air umbrella in shallow waters. The attention he has paid to this has really rewarded him.

Its already on the schedule! Problem at this stage is that I´m so close to multiple big Japanese AF and the KB/BBs I have to bring everything even for small landings. Right now I´m waiting for the CV fleet to finish upgrading the air groups and the surface fleet to fix all those accumulated SYS damage. I also have to get the troops into place to be loaded. They are currently walking towards Manila. After a couple of days or rest we should be able to load them up.

Ideally I would like to have Appari available to cover. But in light of the recent Japanese sweeps into Luzon it will be quite some time before I can stage fighters there.

So its looking like first week of March!

Hi CC!

Are you sure about the base having to be the same HQ? I totally dropped the ball on that one if its the case! Manila is currently under SOPAC HQ (I´m guessing because SOPAC was the HQ with prep for Manila) while the bombers and Fighters was Fifth Air HQ.

Never heard that the base HQ could effect coordination before! Its not dirt cheap to change Manila (180 PPs) but if you are right it might be valuable to change some of the more forward bases like Aparri.

Yup. As I always say there's a lot of stuff the Allies can do to maximise their sub performance BUT it is always tempered by how much effort he Japanese put into the their convoys routing and ASW work. If they do all of this well the Allies will struggle to get brilliant results with their subs. Period.

KUDOS to you sir!!

I'm finally getting my act together to take a series of three exams to get my LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor). Just having a Master's Degree is not enough in my profession. I need more initials after my name.

Thanks guys. So relieved. Almost two years to get it done. The fee alone was 5000 Euro. Then you have to add the cost of working only 80% for 2 years. Thats what? Another 20k? So about 25.000 euro in total. Thats A LOT of money! Heck, thats the car we are looking at buying!

Good luck with your exams Micheal. It was actually quite fun being back at the schoolbench...at times!

Congrats. A future of mucho dinero awaits you. Make sure as soon as possible you become a "manger" and let others turn the screwdrivers. Over here they call those folks "job creators" and the title comes with blanket permission to gripe about taxes, paperwork, the gummit, and deadbeat customers.

But before you do that, I have a question about a GFI plug in my kitchen . . .

Looks like Erik lifted out that NavGuard unit. Can´t understand why he bothers as they are pretty much useless at this point.

I´m waiting for another ID to reach Iba before the first attack begins. While we have a 4:1 raw AV advantage prior bombardments indicate forts are high and terrain is x3. Don´t want to wreck any troops if I don´t have to.

Here is a look at Luzon and CRB. All in all its about 200.000 Japanese troops cut off and about to be annihilated. Sadly Erik have been able to lift out fragments of most IDs (if not all). These still have to be rebuilt and thats going to cost him quite a lot. And take time. With fragments still left on Luzon and CRB he can´t split the fragment into 3 parts so filling them out will take a long time. And he will be stuck with a less than potent ID lacking all heavy equipment. I´m going to try real hard not to destroy those fragments. Just out of spite!

Thanks!

With taxes about 150 Euro in "startup fee" to cover the travel and service car including 1 hour of work. After that its 60 Euro per hour. I also get a nice percentage on all material I sell.

Lifting them out prevents loss of VPs, I guess. Also if he doesn't want to spend PPs to rebuild, he doesn't have to. Just the ARM/VEH/supplies.

Ah, that might be it (VPs). If he rebuilds NavGuards at this stage though I would be very happy. Could he be?
