I guess this would be the thread to introduce myself. I've been playing Panzer Corps for the last year and thoroughly enjoying it but felt like getting back to the boardgames of my youth and have been thinking about what game to start off in. Will still be playing Panzer Corps as it is a fabulous game, but I wanted to have a go at a campaign style game. I started off by having a look at Strategic War in Europe, it was very cheap so worth a punt. Have to say it wasnt really for me although I'm sure it is good at what it actually offers. So after much reading of these forums since it first came out I finally made the decision this week to purchase Case Blue as my introduction to strategy games. Right decision! I'm having a ball. So far I'm on my third playthrough of the linked scenario campaign which is an excellent introduction. The first attempt was best, managed the firs scenario easily enough, got a bit cocky in the second one and ended up with two stranded and surrounded panzer divisions! I decided to desert to the Russians at that point before my career ended with a visit to Fuhrer Headquarters. I've also played the 2nd Kharkov scenario as the Germans..despite my grand plans it was again abandoned as I had made far too many mistakes and was on for a minor Soviet victory at best, too many grand plans and not enough looking at trying to get a breakthrough, note to self, dont use PZ divs as battering rams, the losses were horrific! I keep looking at the grand campaigns but am not quite ready for them yet, still getting used to trying to reorganise HQs, playing the cards at the right time and not running ahead of my supplies. Have to admit I am getting impatient as the campaigns look brilliant, but the scenarios are worthwhile games in themselves and really help with learning the mechanics of combat. I keep going back and re-reading the manual as various bits make more sense and these forums have been really helpful, especially the playthroughs in the AAR section. Overall I'm having a blast, hope to have a go at a PBEM game soon as well which I've never done before, I'm sure I'll get trashed but the beauty of the game is you can have fun whilst losing. I think my evenings are about to disappear down a Case Blue shaped hole
