Status: offline 		“Serious” Races mod

Once again I would like to share with you a mod I use to replace original races pictures. I really appreciate the great variety of nice races “Distant World” provides to a player. But to me they seem to look a little bit like toys (no offense to the makers of this great game!) which is fun, but doesn't work best for sci-fi atmosphere I like. Personally I prefer races to look more intelligent and serious (yes, even “Attuk” one! :-)). Also I'd like them to look more “scientific” and generally more convincing.
So with a help of Google I searched through hundreds of artworks. I chose about a hundred of images which looked interesting but not familiar to me. I cropped and resized them to 300x300 pixels and did little colour grading to some of them. Then I sorted them by race families and chose 22 of them which fit best in my opinion to replace original ones.

On the left there are original races, and on the right their replacements.
(Please take a note that I didn't do any “foreground vs background” cuts to them).

Have you checked the artwork of http://jeradsmarantz.blogspot.co.uk/? He has a ton of stuff that is ideal to contribute to this.

I see a couple of pics are from Jerad's artwork.

Status: offline 		1. The Quaemo finally look like the infant-eating, disease-spreading filthy monsters they truly are.
2. Potatoeheads still retain their potatoedness, now within a jar.
3. Shandar are going to get enslaved and killed a lot. For the way they look like now.
Verdict - This is all I ever wanted for race pics for DW races. I totally approve!

Excellent work Martian. It must have been some time you dedicated to this project. Thank you!

I checked the link you gave and yes, the artworks there are of very good quality! It is pity that most of them look rather demonic than sci-fi. For DW I prefer something less scary.

That would be great! But only if it won't take much of your precious time. Actually that was the biggest reason why I didn't do it myself. Not much of free time recently. And second reason is that I didn't yet make final decision which of these artworks to use as a replacements. I am still experimenting.

Status: offline 		I've been doing a lot of experimenting myself, with the addition of my Distant Worlds Extended races, it's good to see them fit in more than ever in the game. I've changed a fair amount but I like a lot of your choices.

I'll probably start once I am happy with my 30 choices, as I have added the Jintus to my Extended races.
