So are the cities of Kursk,Kharkov,Orel and Belgorod objectives? Take them and it will dent his manpower. The major losses you inflicted on him in the marshes still have him behind. Now you have launched major offensives in the center, north and south all n 6 months. This new mobile and offensive behavior from you must be confusing to your opponent. Keep kicking him where he ain't.

Seems that is what I must do. I need to teach my generals to fight like Geronimo. Hit and Run will have to be the new style.

Turn 77

Overall
BAH! Ok, the pockets held and we bagged some USSR units, still BAH. At times I really completely hate this game with an intensity far above my dislike of "Lady" Gaga and Just A Beaver. And I REALLY dislike those "artists"...
When a 4:1 pre battle CV is reduced to a 1:2 result, AND I bring 4 divisions against 2 USSR divisions AND I outnumber the enemy 3:1 in men, you know the game is out to mess things up for you. Oh, did I forget to mention that it was a deliberate attack. And by "a" I ment several?!
Nah, next turn I will pull my panzers back, redeploy, hit another sectioon of the front, make a small pocket or two, eliminate it and withdraw again. As of now there is no chance to launch a major offensive anywhere. BAH!
66 attacks resulted in 19 helds (!!!), 1 scouted, 36 retreats and 10 surrenders.
The only good thing this round was the effort of my minors, they succeeded with all their attacks.

USSR units in pockets at start of turn
15.

USSR units in pockets at end of turn
16 of which 9 will march free.

Losses
USSR : 191.000 troops, 2.744 guns, 203 AFVs, 163 AC.
Axis : 47.000 troops, 461 guns, 125 AFVs, 80 AC.

USSR units lost
8 rifle divisions, 3 rifle brigades, 1 airborne brigade, 3 tank brigades and 1 artillery regiment RVGK

Partisans hunted down
5, one left on the map.

German pools
Manpower : 1.326

Turn 78

Overall
I decided to keep pushing. The reason is that there are a few manpower centres to take out close by. Granted, the USSR manpower multiplier will drop in -43, but that actually means they are that more important to take out. Also, killing off USSR units is a nice bonus .
29 attacks resulted in 3 helds, 29 retreats, 4 routs, 1 shatter and 2 surrenders.

USSR units in pockets at start of turn
7.

USSR units in pockets at end of turn

Axis : 49.000 troops, 555 guns, 109 AFVs, 74 AC.

USSR units lost
7 rifle divisions, 1 artillery regiment RVGK, 1 PVO AA regiment.

German units disbanded
1 LW Field division.

Turn 79

Overall
Yup, the game hates me again. Oh well hopefulyl next turn is better. We do clear away some USSR units from the frontlines, and should take the objectives set last turn, however January is fast approaching, and with it, the cheap USSR corps construction. That is gonna be fun...
50 attacks resulted in 11 helds, 31 retreats, 6 routs and 3 surrenders. No new pockets were formed however, and I am running out of tanks (save Tigers ofc). Need to take the objectives, pull back the panzers and dig in and wait for one of two to happen first;
1. A USSR offensive
2. Panzers back to atleast 85% TOE so we can form some more pockets.
The infantry is all shot to pieces (some 2CV units on the map now), and I do not see the situation becoming better. Guess I will have to replace worn out divisions with the handful of new divisions appearing and disband the worn out ones.

USSR units in pockets at start of turn
6.

USSR units in pockets at end of turn
0.

Losses
USSR : 164.000 troops, 2.356 guns, 307 AFVs, 329 AC.
Axis : 56.000 troops, 701 guns, 114 AFVs, 49 AC.

USSR units lost
5 rifle divisions, 1 rifle brigade.

German units disbanded
1 LW Field division.

Partisans hunted down
3.

The ratio in losses of the recent fighting are basically neutral to either/both sides.

Save in terms of tanks unfortunately which is heavilly listed towards the USSR. But it is not the losses, it is the game mechanics that gets to me. 64.000 German soldiers attacks from 3 sides of the hex against 8.000 USSR troops and the USSR wins!? Oh, well, hopefully the turn I am about to do will work out better and lift my spirit again..

Turn 80

Overall
A better turn, and in the end we surround two cities and 12 units, including 2 of the "expensive" rifle corps. Furthermore a minor oppertunity seems to be present if we can make the most of our panzers next turn. After that however, the armaments situation dictates a defensive stance again. 49 attacks resulted in 9 helds and 40 retreats this turn.

USSR units in pockets at start of turn
0.

USSR units in pockets at end of turn
12.

Losses
USSR : 126.000 troops, 2.028 guns, 204 AFVs, 316 AC.
Axis : 55.000 troops, 598 guns, 130 AFVs, 45 AC.

Total losses
USSR : 8.690.000 troops, 150.955 guns, 24.496 AFVs, 21.407 AC.
Axis : 2.543.000 troops, 29.265 guns, 6.649 AFVs, 5.185 AC.

Losses ratio
Troops : 1 : 3.42
Guns : 1 : 5.14
AFVs : 1 : 3.68
AC : 1 : 4.13

USSR units lost
None

German units disbanded
1 LW Field division.

Partisans hunted down
3.

German pools
Manpower : 7.742
Vehicles : 196.707
Armaments : 13.819
Hiwi : 3.908
I simply MUST stop the offensive actions soon as my armaments are melting away again...

fine, but unfortunately your spearheads can't really support each other - the thing is, after catching infantry corps in the first round, one will usually hunting for tanks and cav corps in the next... :-)

I doubt he has many of those tbh. Allready taken out alot of his cav units, same goes for tank brigades. But we will see, the chance is too good to be wasted imo.

500 Administrative points - wow. That is proper management.

It is march of '42 in my current game and I never managed to have more than 30 (more less) at the end of the turn. And I need to mention, that I "achieved" it not having single fortified region built so far.

Hey Terje,

the German Panzer troops would say something like "Die Russen im offenen Gelände ohne Deckung?! Angriff!". I've never heard anybody speaking about "Russkies".
Awesome job! You have almost reached the historical front lines. You have still the offensive on your side while in reality the Army Group South was fighting for survival. This time Brad has really make an effort to reach Berlin.
Are you trying for some kind of Citadel offensive? You have the same deployment areas (Kharkov and Orel) and your southern wing seems much stronger.

Not sure what Brad is up to really. Is he not defending in depth at all Terje or is it just a lack of recon on your part?

Single line of russians is just asking for trouble, especially in the south with all that open ground and in the winter rivers a useless as you so well know =)

Russkies. Hmm maybe a made up Norwegian word then
Problem is my severe lack of tanks, but we shall see how it plays out. I do however fear that it WILL become Citadelle

Turn 81

Overall
We prepare to launch the last attack NEXT turn as we simply had to relocate some forces, and our panzers had to help take Orel and Kharkov. 28 attacks resulted in 1 held, 19 retreats, 4 routs and 4 surrenders. No more armaments is a slight bump in the road though...
If I calculate with 2 divisions per corps and 3 brigades per division, we have so far destroyed somewhat above 500 divisions worth of USSR units...

USSR units in pockets at start of turn
12.

USSR units in pockets at end of turn
0.

Losses
USSR : 225.000 troops, 3.218 guns, 205 AFVs, 306 AC.
Axis : 45.000 troops, 345 guns, 75 AFVs, 25 AC.

USSR units lost
2 rifle corps, 9 rifle divisions, 1 mountain division, 1 naval rifle brigade, 1 PVO AA regiment.

Partisans hunted down
7.

German pools
Manpower : 224
Vehicles : 192.989
Armaments : 0
Hiwi : 3
Bye bye armaments...

Russkies ( singular = Russky) was in common use in England in the 60's and 70's. It probably came from WWII and the belief that all Rusian names ended in '...sky'
I used it as the standard word for the Russians.

In the 1980s in the army it was 'Russians' but always preceded by the words 'hairy-arsed'. The subject of Russian lady soldiers never came up, so I never found out how hairy they were, and I don't think my wife would let me find out now

Turn 82

Overall
No big pocket formed, instead we only managed two smaller ones, but right now I have the USSR in a good position for me, with alot of units in the open, so we will have to keep attacking further still. It gets even more important now that the USSR corps production will be increased. Bag 2 divisions and 1 brigade, and that corps is 25 points more expensive all of a sudden. That being said, my forces are being worn down now, and that I can ill afford, so I guess Iæm damned if I do and damned if I don't... Oh well.
The USSR attacked a small stack of Italians this turn and caused a retreat. Fair enough, those Italians will not hang around much longer anyway, so reducing their manpower pool a bit is no big deal.
We launched 46 attacks and scored 12 helds, 33 retreats and 1 rout. Not good enough, but not too bad either. Add in the pockets we formed, and I will take this turn and say "thank you".

USSR units in pockets at start of turn
0.

USSR units in pockets at end of turn
15, one is an army HQ, so that one does not count.

Losses
USSR : 124.000 troops, 1.945 guns, 150 AFVs, 399 AC.
Axis : 52.000 troops, 554 guns, 103 AFVs, 53 AC.

USSR units lost
None.

German units disbanded
1 LW Field Division.

Partisans hunted down
5.

German pools

Vehicles : 186.213
Armaments : 6.340
Hiwi : 5.944

I would say you have the ap crunch going and the SHC is having a hard time building up strength. His CV looks amazing crappy for this time in game. I say your doing everything right and hes doing something wrong on the other side.

Can u post the OOB? and Losses screen next turn, interesting game.

Sure, will do :)
Well, according to Brad he has reserves far behind the front, but I do not believe it to be so. He also claims to have 500 points banked to build corps this turn. That is more believable.
Nevertheless, my strength is disappearing quickly now, and I am just not sure how long I will be able to hang on. Another issue ofc is the shape of the front. It is consuming ALOT of units, I need to think something up to fix that situation as well...

Go over to defensive at some point.

You could start changing over on parts of the front that are "dead"

Stop any attacks other then ones that pocket units. Every attack is a bad ratio in 42 other then ones that lead to pockets or retreats.

Turn 83

Overall
A rather good turn I would state. Although the small pocket at Kursk is reopened by a USSR attack, that was something I anticipated as the attacked hex was guarded by Axis minoirs. However I think Brad should have let them be, as I am now threathening far more units. Although we formed a nice pocket, we did not have the MP to seal it properly, but I anticipate more trapped USSR units next turn. Further good news is that we have been given another PROPER division to play with, and that some units have been relocated, so that we are now once more able to (more or less) guard the territory taken.

Turn 84

Overall
"Citadelle" is over, the result a smashing Axis victory. 29 USSR units trapped, granted, two are HQs and most are divisions (with 1 corps and a few brigades), but still, it feels nice . It also allows us to (if we decide to) to push even further east, although that is not the best of options as I really can do without a longer front.
49 attacks resulted in 6 helds, 39 retreats and 4 routs this turn.
Number of destroyed USSR units is also nice reading. With a cautios ratio of divisions in corps and a generous ammount of brigades in divisions, we still tally some 530 USSR divisions worth destroyed...

USSR units in pockets at start of turn
0.

USSR units in pockets at end of turn
29, but two of these are HQs.

Losses
USSR : 125.000 troops, 1.910 guns, 52 AFVs, 6(???) AC.
Axis : 49.000 troops, 521 guns, 97 AFVs, 67 AC.

USSR units lost
None.

Partisans hunted down
