The endgame resource/fuel management isn't very good for Japan. It will prioritize getting fuel to every port before making the HI run.

Frustrating to say the least, but your industry is still pristine....so you are in the drivers seat!

Since she was just in an accident, this might be residue body reaction to the sudden shock of the accident. Whiplash usually occures 12-24 hours after an accident. How are the crickets?

The STUPID crickets are fine! We have a menagerie here thanks to two boys and a wife. Will detail next Posting on our varied ZOO here!

The accident has been playing around in my head as well. Didn't go back to the ER last night though it was a near thing. If there is no improvement then we go back late-afternoon. Doctor's ORDERS!

Did crank out a FAST turn. I mean...really fast. Figure I missed stuff. Hope it doesn't it my in the patookus.

Add another DD to the total. She was damaged earlier and now takes a PAIR of those big 500Kg bombs. NICE!

Got the turn out to Dan just now. Very quiet. Always makes me nervous when the Allies go quiet for a turn or two or three.

Plan to have time for a comprehensive update over the last two turns and will Post later today.

Forgot to mention I am within a week of getting Musashi, Nagato, and CB Ikoma back in operational form. Those BIG BOYS would be a welcome addition. Have had them disbanded in out-of-the-way Ports in Java with ARs doing their thing. Luckily nearly all of their damage was minor so it has repaired a point a day.

Foochow, CHINA

If it worked ONCE...

Before Foochow's AF can be fully repaired, the Japanese bombardment Tfs arrives again. This time 3 BC, 2 CA, 1 CL, 10 DD pummel the base with EVERYTHING they've got. Again, the explosions and secondary explosions are joyously watched and tallied. The results are most gratifying. Intel will report nearly 50 planes destroyed with dozens damaged.

As the TF avoids the many Allied subs in the area, word reaches the group that the Allied Fleet has been spotted moving up from Luzon. As normal the multitudes of ships and aircraft cannot be believed.

Looks like this is the last cakewalk for the Japanese to enjoy for the moment. The Fleet is ordered to retire to Nagasaki for a bit of R&R and to plan the next mission which appears to be in a FAR colder environment...

Convoy TK-6

We now KNOW where the Allied 1.0x10^6 is. The whole Battlecruiser movement was meant to draw an Allied response with his CVs. That has now been done. Time to roll the dice!

With a deep sigh and fervent prayers, TK-6 is ordered to move out. Three Tanker Convoys raise anchor at Balikpapan. It is a very impressive sight:

TF 41 4 Escorts, 2 AO, 19 Tankers--242,574 Fuel/Oil
TF 40 8 Escorts, 17 Tankers--178,002 Fuel/Oil
TF 124 4 Escorts, 20 Tankers--187,287 Fuel/Oil

TOTAL: 16 Escorts, 2 AO, and 56 Tankers carrying 607,863 Fuel/Oil

They will sail for two days and approach Manado to then be joined by three Carrier Task Forces:

TF 23 5 CV, 1 BC, 1 CA, 1 CL, and 7 DD with 288 Planes
TF 122 4 CV, 4 CA, 1 CL, and 7 DD with 263 Planes
TF 162 4 CV, 1 CVL, 2 CA, and 7 DD with 351 Planes

Total: 13 CV, 1 CVL, 1 BC, 7 CA, 2 CL, and 21 DD with 902 aircraft.

From Davao and Manado 300+ more Fighters will provide LRCAP. From west of Manado to Babeldoap is three days. Two days to get there, three to cross, and then we head for home...

This is the plan...

Never seen anyone invade Rapa, but that might be an island too far.

I need to move more troops and there are a BUNCH up north presently...this TF of BCs cannot stop what is coming but it--and 1-2 CVTF--can deal with the Central Aleutians and allow me to pull out up to three full strength IDs.

I was thinking of something more realistic like San Clemente, CA.

August 31, 1944

We close out the month with an interesting turn.

The 1.0x10^6 moves to western side of Formosa. Will he land there? That would be GREAT. It would serve to occupy him for a month of time and that would be a good thing. The more practical bet is to land a whole bunch of troops on the China Coast and solidify his gains and work to drive back my building counter-offensive. This would make sense to me so, therefore, I expect a Formosa landing. Makes sense---RIGHT??!!

Before he gets to China--if that is where he is headed--we swipe Foochow with bombers strikes hitting its AF and Port. The AF attack is nice in that we destroy another 10-12 planes and keep it at 100% damage. The 40+ Frances Port strike hits gold and sinks SS Escolar, 2 AK, and 1 SC. Each ship is hit by 1-3 800 Kg bombs. Didn't know that Frances carried those on a Port strike. LIKE IT! Will remember for a place called Manila coming up...

The enemy attacks Haiphong and I watch the 158th (Sep) Inf Reg collapse in the attack.

We are about to spring the first surprise. A troop convoy carrying 2 full strength ID and a Brigade are about to assault Vinh, Indochina. There is a single unit there and tomorrow it will be struck by--hopefully--100+ bombers as well as Bombardment Fire from BB Ise and the rest of the support ships. This landing is designed to catch the troops up in Northern Indochina and drive them out. If we can make this in-road to his assault then they shall pivot and go south. The attack should take him by surprise and cut his very thin supply line. If this does not work then we lift and move over to Haiphong or Kwangchowan or Hong Kong and deliver our cargo there. The arrival of the Allied Fleet shifted my plans some but we'll give this a serious try.

Here is what we hope to catch:

In my current game my Japanese opponent invaded Rapa Island and help it for maybe a month until I came calling and took back the Islands he took, including Tahiti. Since then I have taken back Pago-Pago and moved on and invaded Noumea, it is mid August 42 . He pushed hard in SE PA and now I am rolling him back, but behind historically.

In other news, TK-6 moves away from Balikpapan heading for Manado. Will nearly reach the base tomorrow. The three CVTF depart Madjene after filling their tanks from 7 AOs. The AOs head for Balikpapan to refuel to follow the Carriers out of the fighting area.

TK-6 is covered by 150+ Fighters flying out of Manado.

The September 1st turn will see the TFs all join together (much like the Allied TFs) and sail for Babeldoap. We only need 2 days to get thru so, hopefully, this should be OK. The plan is for 2 CTF to stay with TK-6 as escort while the 3rd doubles back to cover the AOs. Once they are all past the danger point, the CVs will break away and move towards home. The 3rd CVTF will return to Java and join-up with the 4th CVTF (currently operating off of Saigon) to force Dan to stay honest protecting his supply line. Given an opportunity, they will attack.

The 2 CVTF that go into the Pacific will move north as detailed in yesterday's Posting. We hope to acheive local superiority and get another Tactical Victory...

My guess is correct. He has started a landing in Formosa at Taichu:

The 1.0x10^6 moves to western side of Formosa. Will he land there? That would be GREAT. It would serve to occupy him for a month of time and that would be a good thing. The more practical bet is to land a whole bunch of troops on the China Coast and solidify his gains and work to drive back my building counter-offensive. This would make sense to me so, therefore, I expect a Formosa landing. Makes sense---RIGHT??!!

Happy as all HELL. He'll take the place but it will take a while to do so. Meanwhile I know EXACTLY where his CVs are. Stand by for one heck of a screenshot!

New month and we open with the crippled CL Nagara trying to flee the on-coming Allied juggernaut. AS she departs Pescadores, this is what she immediately runs into:

The Nagara does not engage but then she runs into a large CVE TF, then a large AOs TF, and finally into New Jersey and Iowa. Heart leaps for a second when she fires Torps at New Jersey but they miss. DRAT! She then is sunk...

TK-6 is fully moving. Recon spots a small STF at Taluad. Form-up a low numbered TF (Lucky #7) of 1 BC, 2 CA, and 3 DD to lead the TFs. Everyone will form-up and move east tomorrow. We just need two days to make the run and then we'll be free in the Central Pacific...

John, I have been following your AAR for a couple years, though not as closely as I should have been, I admit. I have refrained from commenting partly because I often prefer lurking (I did this for years before finally opening an account on the forum), but mostly because I am reading your opponent´s AAR as well.

I have a couple questions for you. In one of my two games currently, I am taking a less-aggressive approach in China in an attempt to conserve supplies. You have taken a similar tact in this game, and you seem to be doing OK. My questions are these: 1) In your opinion, what advantage have you derived from the extra supply that you did use in China? 2) How did you make use of it in other theaters? 3) Now that you are facing a full-on offensive in China from multiple fronts, how long do you expect to be able to hold out before withdrawing the Manchura? 4) Would you take this less aggressive approach in China again?

Meh. Now a screenshot of a dirty black seawater geyser shooting up 200' up the side of one of those aircraft carriers from a Long Lance hit? THAT would have been a heck of a screenshot!

I had that in my game with Tiemanj...a PC, the Nire I believe, put a torpedo into the side of a fleet carrier at night in nasty weather and escaped just off northern Luzon. Late 1944.

Glorious!

PS: I have a screenshot of it, but I am too lazy to look for it in my old AAR.
