I have a question about AVs. Do their float planes fly only if the AV is formed up in a TF at a base? Or do they fly even if the AV is anchored ("in port") at a base? I assume the latter -- right?
The latter is correct.

I've been neglecting this because of nothing much happening right now against Ross and he not being able to throw that many turns against me. Last turn was a positive one for me.

Ross sent a TF consisiting of 10+ ships. CA's, CL's and DD's on some misson headed for Lunga. I caught him at extreme range with Dave's, Val's and Kates getting some hits. Not many but I managed to light some fires. Good for me.

Finally a turn from Ross. He's been a busy bee or he's avoiding this game.. ;)

Nothing much happening right now. Ross is reinforcing his defences and I'm consolidating my gains.

Minneapolis was burning from a previous conflict - I guess from the surface battles north of Luganville. Didn't manage to sink her though. A pity.

I landed troops in the islands south of Guadalcanal some turns ago and now a captured Irau.

Sunk Minneapolis last turn. Bad weather is hampering operations.
Ross seems to be probing around for a soft spot to hit and I'm reorganizing and building up New Guinea.

And so I commence operation Ro.

Primary objectives: take Luganville.

Secondaries: Efate Porte Vila and possibly Noumea, depending on how well Ross defends himself.

This is a Kursk situation. Ross has known for atleast 10 turns or so (propably a month) that Luganville will be my next objective and not the Australian mainland. I've seen transport TF's head for Luganville and my recon has told me there are sizable enemy forces there. My best hope is to take the most out of the situation and use my superior tactics against him.

This is how it folds out on the first turn.

Wasp sunk, Saratoga is dead in the water and a burning hulk after the amount of ordinance it got from me.

Luganville is size 5/5 and Efate 4/4 so I assume Ross is capable of massing some 450 planes to his defence and bombers to support them from Noumea. The next few days are more or less critical for the whole game.

Second day of Operation Ro. Sunk Saratoga and Northampton and a few DD's. For some reason Tanaka-san was content in slapping CA Northampton around and didn't feel like showering the AK's with steel.

Third day of Ro.

Sunk Nashville and Luisville. Landed 5th SNLF at Koumac which is defended by engineers.

I'm operating a independent Carrier taskforce with 7 CV's around Luganville.

My CVL's are protecting my invasion TF. Two transports got one hit each this turn and 50 troops killed.

Operation progressing as expected. Allied supply lines to Australia will be cut, the continent isolated and the SRA secured.

Glory to the Emperor!

Banzai! Banzai! Banzai!
