Thot so. You need some creative math skill to back track the disabled pools tho to some extend possible. Just saying the listen numbers in the above post isnt the whole truth. For neither side.

True, but those are the ones easy to list

Turn 180

Overall
Winter is here (frost lvl 3), btu by now most of our units are back (still about 10 divs or so out there), and our defences are getting better and better. Will it hold through the winter, I doubt it
Anyway, we launched 1 attack with a surrounded stack in the hope to kill enough of our own troops to allow a merge to take place, but we did not take enough casualties...
The USSR made 15 attacks, and scored 8 helds, 4 retreats, 2 surrenders and 1 rout.

Losses
USSR : 34.000 troops, 151 guns, 195 AFVs, 153 AC.
Axis : 43.000 troops, 565 guns, 37 AFVs, 11 AC.

Axis units destroyed
24th Pz.Div, 167th Inf.Div, 299th Inf.Div, 213th Sec.Div, 904th StuG Brigade, 663rd PanzerJager Battalion, 50th Pioneer Battalion, 5/46th SP Flak Company.

German units disbanded
2 Fortified Zones. We also merged a total of 9 Inf.Div, 1 Sec.Div and 1 Jager Division this turn.

German Pools
Manpower : 1.343
Vehicles : 189.170
Armaments : 25.445
Hiwi : 114

those are some impressive defensive CVs you have ... this promises to be an epic end ... even if you are probably going to lose ...

Terje - Good defense all things considered. I think you will hold out until Spring or later. Also, getting through SE Europe is time consuming, even against a very weak defense. Lots of VPs there. Another valiant fight. You could really use those wonder weapons about now, though.

Yup, the frozen rivers is one of my main "issues" with this game
I am not so sure as you are, but we shall see

Yes, they look good, however I fear I will need to more or less cover the entire area with lvl 3 forts. And the fact that the crucial Berlin hex is the one that is the easiest for the USSR to get to as well is another annoyance

And yes, I will lose, no Q about that. That was more or less a given when I started this game

We shall see, when you first cracked that line, things really went downhill quickly for me, I expect the same in this game.
In SE, most of Rumania is conquered by the USSR already. Hungary is still holding out, but not for much longer.
I do however have a line in place 2 hexes south of Dresden, hopefully that will slow the USSR down some.

Turn 181

Overall
One of our last offensive operations took place as the Hungarians rushed out and routed an USSR RR-repair unit. Apart from that, we move some units around to maximize the frontline defence, and we keep railing in those stragglers.
14 USSR attacks ment 9 helds, 3 retreats, 1 rout and 1 surrender.
We also placed some division in static mode as they are not going to move much for some time anyway.

Losses
Fubar.

Axis units destroyed
20th SS Grenadier Division, 251st Infantry Division, 285th Security Division.

German units disbanded
A mix of merges and mere disbands included;
1 Jager Division, 1 Sturm Division, 1 Mountain Division, 1 Cavalry Division, 1 Infantry Division and a Panzer Brigade.

German Pools
Manpower : 6.903
Vehicles : 194.922
Armaments : 52.670

Turn 182

Overall
Atleast the USSR comes to a halt in front of our defensive line. I am pretty sure it is only to bring up enough troops though.
For now the USSR is content battling out with the Hungarians. Well, I only need them to hold for a few more turns so I can extract the rest of my troops.
The only thing done on our side was reshuffling some troops as usual.
10 USSR attacks resulted in 5 helds and 5 retreats.

Losses
USSR : 28.000 troops, 110 guns, 104 AFVs, 306 AC.
Axis : 17.000 troops, 238 guns, 22 AFVs, 61 AC.

Axis units destroyed
None.

German units disbanded
A mix of merges and mere disbands included;
XXXIV Corps, Tatra Pz.Div, Deneke Inf.Div, 56th Inf.Div, 707th Inf.Div, 101st Jager Division and 1 Fortified Zone.

German Pools

Turn 183

Overall
The main USSR effort is still in Hungary, but they launch two weak assaults on our Berlin-line, and inflict some 400 casualties while taking nigh-on 8.000 themselves.
14 USSR attacks resulted in 7 helds, 3 retreats, 3 routs and 1 surrender.

Losses
USSR : 34.000 troops, 275 guns, 91 AFVs, 133 AC.
Axis : 27.000 troops, 336 guns, 23 AFVs, 21 AC.

Axis units destroyed
9th Hungarian Border Guard Brigade.

German units disbanded
The following were disbanded;
5 Fortified Zones, Danzig Static Division, Berlin Infantry Division, 221st Security Division.

German Pools
Manpower : 6.739
Vehicles : 190.012
Armaments : 112.698

that OOB chart summarises the situation perfectly. You need 1-4 kill ratio to even start to hold the overall numbers static

Good thing we had 20:1 combat casualties (for the Germans) this turn then

Turn 184

Overall
Hungary is hanging in the ropes now, and it is NOT a rope-a-dope. Furthermore, the USSR will soon have "encircled" us (to the extent that is possible with only 2 land fronts. The main problem with this is that one of the cities outside my defensive line is one of the cities that spawns my reinforcements...
This turn the USSR was happy just bombing a few units, bombing an AF, and bombing Berlin. Bombing us will not win the war for them, so we will take that any day over deliberate ground attacks
11 USSR attacks (all against Hungary) resulted in 3 helds, 5 retreats and 3 routs.

Losses
USSR : 29.000 troops, 187 guns, 66 AFVs, 287 AC.
Axis : 30.000 troops, 616 guns, 26 AFVs, 17 AC.
The losses are not as bad as they seem, as a lot of our casualties are Hungarians which I consider "lost" anyway.

Axis units destroyed
28th, 76th and 98th LW Flak Regiments. I have NO idea how these units were destroyed tbh...Might be from the bombing on Berlin, but no real losses were reported in the combat report.

German units disbanded
The following were disbanded;
3 Fortified Zones, Warsaw Static Division, 2/207th Security Division.

German Pools
Manpower : 4.374
Vehicles : 190.778
Armaments : 145.384
Hiwi : 705

Turn 185

Overall
In Hungary the USSR is simply attacking by movement this turn, they do instead launch 3 deliberate attacks on the Berlin-line. They only score helds, but in one attack the fort was reduced to lvl2, and in the other to lvl1. The stack still stands at 98 defensive CV, but seeing the CV number the USSR achieved, I am not too secure atm.

Losses
USSR : 36.000 troops, 272 guns, 125 AFVs, 117 AC.
Axis : 14.000 troops, 125 guns, 19 AFVs, 12 AC.

Axis units destroyed
None.

German units disbanded
7 Fortified Zones.

German Pools
Manpower : 4.434
Vehicles : 191.100
Armaments : 168.098
Hiwi : 246

guess it is going to be a case of a number of heavy attacks till one forces you back, and then trying to exploit that first gap.

Given you were hit by 5-1 in manpower and 10-1 in artillery, presume your opponent has the capacity to rotate their assault units if they get too damaged by repeated attacks?

Yeah, he will hit me with fresh troops again and again. That is why I am building forts behind the line as well, already have a lvl3 line mostly in place behind the front.

with some panzer units in reserve you may be able to give him a blody nose on some attacks. Hopefully your defenses will still hold quite a few turns.

You can't avoid loosing hexes against a strong SHC. It takes one or two turns for each, depending on the fatique of his units.

I know, what I need is good CV adjustment rolls as well as reserve activations. Then I might be able to slow him down some...

Turn 186

Overall
Pretty much the same as last turn. A few battles on the main line that reduce our forts somewhat, apart from that, it seems the USSR is hell bent on out-manoeuvring the Hungarians. Well, they have largely succeeded as approximately 60% of the Hungarian army has been trapped in a large encirclement.
Inside our main perimeter we spend some points on reassigning a few generals, as well as transferring some armies from one AG to another.
Instead of going to Oktoberfest, our soldiers are now hoping for some of the secret weapons to drastically improve things. We would like to order a lot of Maus-tanks, Me262 and Me163s please...
3 USSR attacks on the main line all resulted in helds.

Losses
USSR : 39.000 troops, 379 guns, 94 AFVs, 230 AC.
Axis : 18.000 troops, 187 guns, 25 AFVs, 35 AC.

Axis units destroyed
None.

German units disbanded
1 Fortified Zone.

German Pools
Manpower : 592
Vehicles : 188.596

can't quite say 'looking good' but it doesn't look utterly awful. Seems as if the Soviets are trying to clear the Oder well south of Berlin but those CVs will sooner or later give them a 2-1 hit on your defenders?

Yup, but then they are back to square one as they hit a new lvl 3 fort. I need to keep building forts to lvl 3 behind the front...
