I've started a GC as GHC against Bozo.

He has a smart defense and amazing CV's!. I think I will do an even worse 1941 campaign than the one against Schascha.

During the last month I also began 3 games as SHC and my opponents gave up between turn 5 and 15. I think they were disappointed with their performance.

As you said, the morale engine is broken and except against new players the GHC has zero chance to achieve a correct 1941 campaign.

1.06.27 was more fun (even with the morale bug for the germans)

I hope this will be corrected soon

Stef please post your remarks about morale here

http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3355265

the more people voicing concern the more chance they may actually fix it.

Turn 109, 15 July 1943

3 types of actions led by Schascha:

1) Killing my generals with air bombing.

Another KIA

You can note the quality of the remplacement sent by OKH

2) Searching the weak point

Held due to the reserve cimmitment

3) Bombing my units with rockets

I can afford such llosses....

The calm before the storm?

Not much ground actions. Just an overview below of the air war. A good turn for me.

A ratio of 13:1. Not bad. He can't tolerate losses like that for very long. Is he making any progress on the ground?

Turn 111, 29 July 1943

Air War, a bad turn, I have less than 2900 aircraft available

Focus on the southern part of the front. I lost 2 hexes with level 3 entrenchment, final odds were 2.3/1 and 2.4/1. Note that Schascha engaged 362K men in this attack!!!

Schascha let some of his rifle corps in open land without entrenchement (lack of MP I presume)

I decide to "liberate" these hexes

Act 1

Final odd is 2/1, just enough and I used more than 1200 AFV!

Act 2

Easy win 6.1/1 with only 1100 AFV used..

GHC 2 SHC 0

But more important, Schascha won't feel free to advance Rifle Corps in open terrain and some of his corps lost morale.

Turn 112, 5 August 1943

Air war is still intensive: aircraft losses GHC 73 , SHC 273

Schascha, like the dwarves of Middle Earth, has decided to dig my fortified line. His target is obviously west of Cherkassy

Bad news, this time the odd is 3.2/1. He his getting better results...

As usual, I counterattack the units unable to return to the SHC lines.

And I immediatly create some forts behind the hex lost.

Turn 113, 12 august 1943

Bad news this turn...

Another KIA, Walter Model, and I can't accuse Schascha, he didn't bomb his HQ... Perhaps a bad bretzel? I have no more leader with 8 or more as mech...

The dwarves are digging, it becomes serious., I didn't thought he could make 2 consécutives attacks. Of course I punished his units left behind, but it becomes serious.

And a view of the evolution of our OOB, I'm still strong but the Lufwaffe is declining very fast.

Turn 114, 19 august 1943

Same news...

Franz Halder has been executed by e-Hitler. Am I cursed?

Air war 100/412 not a good result. 100 losses are too much for me.

Schascha took another hex and I counterattacked. I also choose to give 2 other hexes exposed on 3 sides.

The Middle Earth Blizzard is why in most cases, it crushes GHC morale which never recovers.

You can simply run back to Germany before blizzard and hold out longer then if you stuck around during blizzard. Morale is the most important stat in game, it trumps arm/manpower Pts, KIA, land taken, ect ect.

I know many look down on this tactic, but it shows a MAJOR design flaw in the game.

Turn 115, 26 august 1943

No general killed, executed... only Hoepner (political 1) dismissed but still in fife and he is mech 7 inf 7. I need him.

Air losses GHC 52 SHC 270, just enough...

Same ground battles. I loose one hex (odd 2.5/1) and some AFV 1345!! engaged by Schascha. I score some rout against the rifle div left behind.

First of all, Schascha is a very good chessplayer. Nothing is done by chance.

He also bombs hexes with aircraft and arty but he is very accurate in his attacks and prefers gaining one hex per turn than risking "helds". Last months, he also suffered a lot of helds due to the reserve activation system.

Maybe he is creating a bulk of elite rifle corps he will use more massively later. SHC national morale grows, GHC will decline.

My main concern in this game isn't ground, I could give more hexes but aircraft, Lufwaffe is disapearing turn after turn...

Turn 116, 3 september 1943

Another bad turn for the Luftwaffe, losses GHC 97 SHC 386

In order to hold ground, Schascha created a carpet of "sacrified" rifle inf in order to protect his 3 strong rifle corps left behind.

I did 6 retreat and 4 rout against his divs but didn't find me strong enough to defeat his 3 rifle corps stack (last time, I had to engage more than 1200 AFV to defeat 3 corps).

For his main atack, Schascha used 1400AFV...

Turn 119, 23 september 1943

Air war still intense

A view near Minsk, I loose 2 hexes

And Cherkassy, I loose 2 hexes and give 2 others overexposed

And finally the OOB, Luftwaffe is under 2700

Turn 120, 30 September 1943

Good news, I've got a new General with high ratings: Von Manteuffel

Air war, the rythm of losses is still too high but I will receive some fighter squadrons in the next weeks.

On the ground Schascha was able to open a 3rd axe of attack north of Minsk. One of my counter attacks in front ok Minsk failed

In Ukraine, he insists South of Kiev. I don't remind when he got a held in an attack....

Turn 121, 7 october 1943

Another good leader arrives Ferdinand Schorner. I don't know why but I was about writing Franz Ferdinand (from Scotland not Austria)

Air losses GHC 88 SHC 469.

On the ground, some typical attacks from Schscha around Minsk

And the view of the main zone of fights during the summer. I retreated 1 to 3 hexes inthe sector of Minsk 3 to 5 hexes around Cherkassy. It could have been worse.

Turn 122, 14 October 1943

First turn of mud.

Non random weather so Schascha advances his units just before the mud

I was clearly behind the curve mid 1942 but now I'm on the average

I'm rather satisfied with this summer campaign. I've retreated 1 to 3 hexes near Minsk, 3 to 5 near Cherkassy. And above all my army is in good shape.

Next step, winter 1943/1944

Turn 126, 11 November 1943

Winter is coming! (Stark)

After some turns of mud, activity is back. First 2 successfull counterattacks around Minsk

.

And the I decide to give ground Around Minsk

I give also ground in South Ukraine but I keep the contact souuth of Kiev. I expect that Schascha will hit at this point.

Turn 127, 18 november 1943

Air losses GHC 109 SHC 515

Schascha is now able to attack on 4 points of the front at the same time.

Focus on the Minsk sector. In order to get a retreat against 3 rifle corps, I have to engage more than 1000 AFV

Sustainable at the moment.

Turn 130, 9th december 1943

Same axis of attacks but Schascha insists South of Minsk. He has several 3 rifle corps stacked in woods. It's too strong for my Mot /Pzd counterattacks. In Ukraine I blocked him except in the extreme South around Nikolaïev.

Our fight looks like Italy 1943. In order to give an in depth perspective, I post 2 maps of the front. For the moment he is gaining ground with pain.

And my OOB is declining slowly but surely

Turn 132, 23 december 1943

Air losses, GHC 84, SHC 339

In the South, Nikolaïev is lost (my defence wasn't optimal). Of course I counterattack but in several places of the front it's a race between SHC advance and the digging of fortifications

Turn 133, 30 december 1943

At least will survive 1943.... but now Schascha is able to attack on 5 points of the front (north Minsk Minsk, north Kiev, Kiev and Nikolaïev)

Air losses GHC 70 SHC 241

Focus on the Minsk sector, I lose 3 hexes and I'm lucky with my counterattack.

Turn 134, 6th january 1944

New year, new perspectives.

5 zones of attack for the SHC

1) North ok Kiev

I was surprised that Schascha opened a new theater of fight. My forces here were light and didn't offer a serious resistance

I had to call 2 pzd/mot to break the spearhead. 2 assaults were needed. With some reinforcement situation seems under control

2) Cherkassy

Heroic resistance from the 17th pzd against 390k men and almost 10k guns!!

3) Nikolaiev
No picture, situation Under control

Turn 134, 6th january 1944

4) Dvina

Here Schascha is facing the LVIth pz corps. The line will hold. It must hold!!!! I have no fort belt behind!!

5) Minsk

This sector is my main concern. Obviously, Schascha has concentrated here a bulk of high quality troops.

And I got a held with a poor 1.5/1 despite I engaged 1200 AFV!!! This sector will be the priority in term of reinforcement.

Turn 134, 6th january 1944

Last point, now my national morale is 60, which is low.

But curiously, the russian front army as a morale well above. It's of course true for pz and mot but also for the majority of my Infs. Below are the lowest german inf Div. The one with 60 is a recently arrived.

I will do, my best to keep morale above 70.

Turn 135, 13 january 1944

error 99 more than 20 times... unable to load this game....

air losses GHC 73, SHC 215

Situation around Cherkassy and Nikolaïev is under control

Near Kiev, the line is holding

In the Dvina sector, I've got good results too

But near Miinsk, Schascha keeps gaining ground. I have to attack with 1600 AFV to gain a retreat...

And at the moment my OOB looks good (I received some reinforcements)
