@ Larry; I'd use up all the obsolete (bi-) planes, they're scrap anyways, and be more careful with the better planes.

I guess the most advanced planes I have right now are the Mig-3. I expect some better planes later in the war but for now
all the wings that can catch air are flying. I'm not making anymore of those Biplanes ( I-15 ) and I don't remember the number
on-hand for that aircraft but it seems like it was like 1700 or so. And then they will be gone. The next most obsolete plane is the
I-16. It was built just after WWI and as far as I can tell wasn't so very much as a fighter THEN. It's over it's head in this war. Here's
a picture of one of those I-16's:

Here's the Leningrad area now. There's not been very many attacks by the Finns in this area. But I detect a buildup on the west side
so there may be some attacks in the future.

Here's the Pskov area. So far I've been holding John's units back but it's not going to hold all that much longer because he's using his
Panzers in this AO.

Here's the south end of the Stalin Line and I'm trying to hamper the Axis units as much as I can.

And the Soviet losses HAVE been higher than "normal" too.

Here's some of the losses so far:

A Soviet Rifle Division was authorized 324 rifle squads, not 180. The game has them woefully under strength. The average strength, across the board, was about 65% of authorized. So that's about 210 rifle squads. So I guess as far as losses you're about 'normal' since some of those squads are other things like NKVD and mech corp plus odds and ends. You're not doing too bad. The Axis guy had better put the pedal to the metal cuz your stuff really gears up.

Just my opinion. That and a dollar will buy you a cup of coffee.

I'm pretty sure John isn't dragging his feet. I'd rather think that it's my superior tactical skills that is raining on his parade. LOL.
And talking about gearing up........I'm seeing lots and lots of stuff coming in future turns. That's why buying me some time to field all that
stuff is what I need right now. I'm trying to hold onto as much terrain as possible so long as the losses are worth it. I guess that's the
premise of this scenario: The finest Army in the world fighting the largest Army in the world. What a battle.

Here's a list of the stuff I'm going to get in turns 14, 15, 16, and 17.

Here's the big picture at the Stalin Line down south. The Stalin Line has crumbled and is surrounded, negated, and is being mopped up.
The next front line I'm building is represented by the green line in the picture. That's the super river flowing through Kiev and going
south. I'm going to try to use that super river as the next major roadblock in John's way of advance. Everything is flowing toward the
green line.......John to try to cross it ASAP and me to prevent any Axis units on the east side if possible. I'm hoping I get my stuff to the
river before John gets there so I can get set up and maybe block John for the first time in the game.

Thanks for the Axis status update. Please tell me again what the premise of this WITE mod is? What's been changed?

There was an in depth discussion on this BB about 2-3 years ago when a number of ideas were floated on how to improve the game. My undestanding from the notes ttached to the game is that Ron reworked the game to include those ideas.

Inf losses have been heavy the past two turns. Lsses are due to heavy attacks against units in my rear.

Ouch. That must have been a painful operation. Was a local anesthetic used or a general?

Looks like the Axis is falling well behind the historical time table. Are the heavy losses during mop up because of ignore losses while fortified?

Yes I am behind on my plan and Yes it is due ignore losses while fortified. The "bug" that helps defenders is really hitting me hard. For example there was one unit that I hit with 18 air units, the arty from 5 HQ's and 4 Arty regts three times in the first turn and then repeated the next turn and then attacked with three inf div's and I took 20% losses and Larry's unit was still there for another 2or 3 turns. There are some units still in my rear 6 turns later and I hit them several times each turn. Look at how long it has taken me to reduce the bottom half of the Stalin line and still have the northern half to go.

Also I think if the fort is on the map there is another advantage to the defender. Just an obsevation no proof. The "area unit" are very very hard to kill and it takes a while for their supply to start running down after they are surrounded.

Larry has placed a division on each crossing and dug that unit in.

This ignore losses bug has damaged our game. It has effected every combat we've had so far and to my advantage. I have an idea.
Let's start over and use a house rule that nobody can be placed on ignore losses. Just a thought.

This is a very sad bug. The Soviets really need ignore losses. Good luck with the next go.

This is a very sad bug.

I wish there was some way that we could fix this w/ some kind of patch that changes just a single spot in the machine language of the
executable like the AA problem was fixed. But alas, no such joy.

Yeah, my understanding is that the Soviets did suicide attacks during the early war period because that was their doctrine then. So
ignore losses is sort of the thing they did. And I agree the Soviets really do need ignore losses.

I dare say that I think John isn't going to want to restart. I could be wrong but I'm guessing he's going to want to continue w/ the
game we have. I just put that idea about restarting to make a joke and it didn't work. I guess it wasn't funny......

The "ignore losses" bug has been w/ TOAW since the beginning and that's because it was so hard to find. During the combat process
the unit attacked is given an RBC check which if it fails it retreats before the combat ensues. If it passes it doesn't retreat and undergoes
the combat as usual. If the unit attacked is in state "ignore losses" the check for RBC's is skipped and the combat is resolved without it.
So the unit in effect does actually stand there and defend to the last man so to speak. This is my understanding.

Hi Larry
I suggest that we press on with the current game. I had contacted Ron about a year or so ago and it would appear few have gone beyond the first year. If we press on we may discover some more errors in the game. That being said I have work problems that will delay my turn for a day or two. It is Wednesday night here and I think it will Friday / Saturday before I will be able to get turn away.
cheers
john

Also works for me. And if the "spare equipment" problem was any indication then there is probably more things that need fixing.

Here's a close up of the area near Smolensk where Field Marshall Fogger has already gotten elements of his Panzer Divisions across the
Dneper river and I've got nobody strong enough to hold them back handy nearby. So it looks like John is going to unhenge my whole
front line defensively. D'oh. I wasn't expecting him to be coming on so fast and didn't get enough people there in time to stop this whole
thing from happening. It will be an interesting spectacle to watch these next few turns.

Yeah, my boys are training night and day and the veterans are sent back to the training centers to help the others along.
That plus the new hats we got everybody has raised morale significantly. Plus we've been giving out metals to several
people at random and that gets interesting. Moscow has started a really good program of urban renewal. Mainly we're digging ditches.
You should see the traffic tye-ups. And for some reason the richer folks don't seem to have to help out as much as the rest of us.

I busted the bridge at Borisov and I'm a believer now: bomber losses are a LOT less when you have fighter escorts. My bombers went
after the bridge, John's fighters went after my bombers, so then my fighters went after his fighters and we had quite a large furball going.
Largest one since the beginning of the game probably. I've got all my aircraft set on least losses and so far the losses have been high
but not catastrophic.

Will you counterattack at the Dnjepr near Bhykov where he made his crossing? Two Tank and one Mech Division could do him harm. The armored recon battalion would be subject to the flanking penalty.

Good idea......I forced the recon unit back across the bridge and sealed off that hole and then I scrounged around for some more
divisions I could plug the second hole w/ and voila` problem solved. So to speak. He's probably not going to give up though. He may
pull back and try somewhere else, somewhere easier. It's going to be interesting to see what he chooses to do.

Ha! That's the spirit. Wear the Axis forces down where ever you can.

Also, you should conserve your IL-4s if possible. They're a very valuable asset, but with low production rate. Maybe use them later when the Air Shock ratio will be less severe. But who am i to lecture Larry Fulkerson on FitE .
