No real interest in watching the Charity Shield but will do as I'm interested to see how Van Persie is looking. He is hugely expensive for a fantasy team but if he can be guaranteed to repeat last year, then worth finding room for him. I would be amazed if he stays injury free - although I've been saying that for the last 3 years

Bump!

A few more players would be great, there's the chance to win stuff. Mostly trips to the UK but there's monthly prizes for those who are good enough. Also, Matrix have been good enough to allow the top player from the league to buy selected* games at up to half price during their next Christmas sale! Now that's a prize

*Selected by Matrix Games. Any discount on preferred games is purely coincidental. Players who do not finish top are honour bound not to buy any titles during the Christmas sales.

Perhaps we should try a different approach?

Anyone who doesn't sign up is a £$%^%&^*& - so there.

here goes my starting eleven with good hope about the rookie Rory Donnelly and an unusual tactical line-up 3-4-3

Good Luck everyone-I'll pay the beer to the winner

Got some good choices there Admiral - one exception though. I would put my old mum in the team before Stewart $%^&* Downing - and my old mum has been dead for almost three years. Downing is everything you want in a winger - except for his lack of pace...and goals...and assists...and - well you get the picture

That looks like a pretty decent team. Except for, as Warpsite has pointed out, a certain Mr Downing. He's been below average constantly since Liverpool paid £20 million(!) for him. I suppose at least he's been consistent.

Here's my latest (and probably final) line up. A few minor changes from the last time, mainly putting Lambert in to save enough cash to fit Ivanovic into the defence. I did this before last night, but hopefully it's a sign of things to come. I like the 3-4-3 formation, less defenders means less goals conceded... There's also the option of 3-5-2 depending on the fixtures for each week.

There's still time for anyone who's on the fence regarding joining in. You can join after the season starts, but you'll be at a disadvantage. There are at least two Brits who can throw some advice out there if people want*, or you can even ask the website to pick a team at random.

*For example, do not pick anyone from Hull (or Crystal Palace) as I suspect they are going to be so bad that they'll resemble Derby County of a few years back.

I have no Man City players - that can't be right...but I have no idea who Pellegrini will play

I like what you have been able to do without having van Persie. The back three look particularly strong. I just can't decide what to do with the Dutchman

My starting 11. (most probably. Hopefully Agger can play. Also not sure about Jagielka, but Mertesacker got some bad reviews after playing with the "Deutsche Nationalmannschaft" against 'Paraquay.)

One question about the automatic substitutions btw. What will happen, if one of my strikers will get injured, before or during the game? Will then Shawcross enter the field?

Looking forward to your comments and advices.

No idea about the rules

Jagielka is an interesting choice. He scores lots of goals but I'm just not sure about Everton under Martinez...

Not having van Persie gives so much more choice so .....

If he is injured before the game then he'll be subbed for the first available player who played that week. If he gets injured during a match then no substitution, he'll get the points he's earned up to his leaving the match. So if it's 10 seconds after kick-off then he'll earn one point.

As far as your team goes, I think there's some promise in there. Mertesacker should earn some points, despite Arsenal's reputation to the contrary they were quite good defensively last season. Jagielka is a risk IMO, Martinez (the new Everton manager) has not managed to build any sort of defence with Wigan which culminated in their relegation last season. Picking any Everton defender could be a gamble, which is why I left Baines out of the team. Of course, he could pull it off and I'll be left looking daft.

The only other 'maybe' player is Johnson IMO, he's capable of good games but he runs hot and cold. He just doesn't seem to be able to knuckle down and perform every week.

RVP is just too much money really, a lot of people pick him and he wills core points. But he costs almost as much as Berbatov and Lambert combined, those two have more points than RVP so he's gone. Leaving RVP out means I get three (hopefully) decent strikers and I can put two good (excellent) midfielders in and I feel Mata and Cazorla will rake in a good few points each again.

Seeing as van Persie features in about 42% of teams I'm hoping that my selections of less popular players will result in me gaining points where others don't. Wolfswinkel (great name) has only been picked by 4% of teams, so when he turns out to be a superstar I'll be gaining points that 96% of people are missing out on!

It's a great feeling finding the player who has a storming season that no-one else picked. Clint Dempsey was my first pick when he was at Fulham, hardly anyone picked him as he was under the radar a little at Fulham.

P.S. It's interesting to see most of our participants have gone with the 3-4-3 formation. I'm claiming the glory on this one and declaring myself a trendsetter!

Zeta16 have you input manually or copied and pasted? If the later it does not work - you have to do it manually.

If you're copy and pasting make sure that there aren't any spaces sneaking in at the ends of the code. Manually inputting the code is the other option.

Nice one Zeta16 If you recall my performance at predicting the Euro Championships a few years ago, I don't think you have much to fear from me
