A great resource for what to add to a single-unit battalion or brigade could be seen here: http://fas.org/man/dod-101/army/unit/toe/ I envision a single-unit battalion as a slow moving unit, (no faster than it's slowest component) with a large number of hit-points, and armed with the number and types of weapons and sensors that would be standard in the TO&E. So, a modern, US tank battalion would need: 4 CARRIER, 120MM MORTAR 5 CARRIER CP 4 MORTAR 120MM 2 TANK, M1A2 5 TRK, CARGO 8X8 3 TRK, MTV W/E 10 TRK, 8X8 HVY EXP 20 TRK, CARGO, LMTV W/ 5 TRK, LMTV, W/E W/W 24 HMMWV 3 CARRIER, COMD AND CTRL 5 COMMAND LAUNCH (JAVELIN) 1 CARRIER, ARMORED 14 TANK, M1A2 1 TRK, LMTV W/E 2 HMMWV Add a few of these armored units together with a few similar single-unit infantry battalions, and BAM! quick and easy 4th Infantry Division (example). It's not the most realistic depiction of a gigantic mobile force on the ground with tens of thousands of vehicles, and a hundred thousand men- but a dozen such units grouped together would be a lot easier for my machine to manage, and would make for some interesting gameplay, nonetheless.
