Could be the DPRK version of the SA-16 as well. They've been appearing in Syria the last couple years.

I understand where you are coming from ..... but the trick is to find a reliable reference!

This article on Janes (Dec 2016) http://www.janes.com/article/66579/myanmar-navy-commissions-first-corvette-with-reduced-rcs
Says "two Chinese-made NG-18 gun systems for close-in defence. The ship also features a box launcher for six man-portable air defence systems (MANPADS) - presumably from North Korea."
But doesn't list the type.

The only references I can find that lists anything other than SA-N-5 says that that F12 is to be fitted with Chinese the naval Surf-Air version of the TY-90 http://research.omicsgroup.org/index.php/TY-90

Or a 2013 blog post that mentions FM-90N SAM for 3 frigates .... but it doesn't list a source.

Actually just as I'm about to post:
This link mentions Igla http://www.militaryfactory.com/ships/detail.asp?ship_id=ums-kyan-sittha-f12-frigate-myanmar for F12.

...... If anybody has any reliable link/references it would be really useful.

Sure. Whichever Osprey works best for you. The 'Maritime Surveillance' version of the 2018 SV-22D would only need to have the surface search radar and 7.62mm machineguns removed and an AEW radar (Searchwater or Crowsnest AESA) to make it a viable AEW platform.

quote:

ORIGINAL: orca

Maybe just add the Searchwater 2000 AEW radar as a loadout (roll on roll off) to the existing hypothetical SV-22?

Mike can we add a hypothetical unit in as Ev-22 Osprey To give US mini carriers (LHA,LHD) some AeW capability?

http://thediplomat.com/2016/06/why-the-us-gator-navy-needs-the-ev-22/

I make that variant myself - I dubbed it the EV-22E Electric Osprey - by adding a Searchwater AEW radar to the MV-22 and saving it as a delta file. Same with a standoff jammer variant of the Osprey (the EV-22F Fuzzy Osprey). Two each per LHD, and for a little flair their squadron callsigns come from USMC VMAQ squadrons.

Hi

I was wondering if I might be able to stick in a request for a load out addition. I am working on an airfield bashing scenario for ODS in 1991. I have read from several sources that the first nights of the war that B52s went in low over Iraqi Airfields with both CBU load outs and interestingly British 1000lb Bombs, referred to UK-1000 bombs. The reason that I can find for this is that US bombs didn’t have the required penetration characteristics to create sufficient concrete heave in airfield operating surfaces.

Now I have considered using the next nearest load out which would be M-117 750lb weapons, however these require a higher release than the 300ft mentioned in sources.

So I would like to request an additional load out for the B52G:

#2263 - B-52G Stratofortress -- United States (Air Force), 1991-1994, Harpoon Mod
The load out would be 36 Mk18 Retarded Bombs either of the below would fit nicely

#1000455 - Mk18 1000lb RET -- RAF, Retarded

#1399 - Mk18 1000lb RET -- RAF, Retarded

I would suggest that the load out range/ ready time parameters for the load would be

M117 750lb LDGP, HSAB Pylon, Hi-Lo-Hi
ID6998

My reasoning for this is the M117 is 2.16m long with the Mk18 is 2.48m long by comparison, the Mk.18 is only slightly larger in diameter and 0.42 vs. 0.41m for the M117 so parasitic drag gain would be negligible, the weights are different 340kg vs. 505kg for the 1000lb weapon, however there are nine fewer bombs so there is only a weight gain of 3060kg not enough to significantly affect the range.

Sources:

M117 details came from the CMANO database viewer.

can i request that you add an air to air laser, the current lasers in the game have WAY too much ammo for planes, and their range makes the aim-9 sidewinder pointless as they have the same max range and the laser fires first as it does not need to travel and have a practical range,
also, the coil lasers can't be fired within 1nm of the plane, meaning it is not a good gun replacement for near future scenarios

i would say to have a 0 - 5 NM range, but i am not really sure how far you could expect to hit something by turning a aircraft and still hit an evading target
---------------------------

while i am here, i remembered a while back Iran calmed to have a "suicide drone" and i think it would be interesting to have, it could be used like a SSM, but it can identify its target first
but i don't have any more info about it, nor do i know if it even existed

Israel has had "suicide drones" for decades:

they also have the delilah missile, but they can't return to base if they don't have a target or find their target is not the one they wanted

also, Iran is more likely to be the opponent in this... .... and i highly doubt Israel would willingly give them weapons

Harop and Harpy are already in the DB, but the current implementation in the game means they Can't loiter over a target area (like the Harop) when used for SEAD missions nor will they return home.

However they do make for an interesting option if used as a 'drone swarm' to saturate enemy air defences just ahead of a bigger hit.

MMW-radar equipped Z-19 finally in service.

We have seen prototypes before, but this one has an "LHXXXX" tailnumber, which indicates it is in active service with an army aviation regiment.

Further to FTBSS and hellfish6's request for a Hypothetical AEW V-22, NAVAIR released the following slide in 2014 of additional roles for the Osprey. COD (CMV-22B) and VARS (MV-22B) we know are now in production and/or testing.

Note the ISR / C2 role features the MASC/TOSS equipment (Merlin CROWSNEST workstations and sensors).

EDIT: Also note on the V-22 TOSS model at the bottom of the quote the EO chin turret necessary for ISR functions.

If you would like real-world, the UK was hosting the USMC aboard HMS Ocean in the Gulf in January. Performing operations supported by the ASaC.7 Sea King:

Note the side mounted Searchwater sensor.

Functions of ASaC.7 include AEW, mini-JSTARS (check out the Orange Crop ESM...), ground surveillance. Easily comparable in function (if not performance) to Hawkeye. Used extensibly as a mini-AWACS and mini-JSTARS in Iraq. Being a helicopter based platform it has a few USP's over Hawkeye. Operation from an LHD and station keeping being two.

ASaC.7 is to be replaced by Merlin HM.2 in the real world with the Crowsnest Ro-Ro kit (currently represented in CMANO as a separate unit instead of a loadout) from 2018.

If you do want a Hypothetical V-22 AEW, there were concepts with overwing radomes a la Hawkeye, however the closest that has come to fruition was the V-22 TOSS, an Osprey version of Merlin MASC (which became Crowsnest).

This was effectively the same Crowsnest kit (palletised Cerberus workstations, Searchwater) that Merlin received but with a ramp mounted pallet for the sensor. It's still considered a future possibility as the Crowsnest kit is truly Ro-Ro.

China point defenses in the Spratlys

Can you add a building (small) that is hardened? Mounts/sensors could then be added to these to simulate these structures.

We have hardened bunkers and if you look under North Korea we have HARTS. I'll add an empty one next time but for now just swap the weapons and sensors.

Thanks

I recently discovered the never purchased but designed Sea Apache from 1989

Per This site

Features:

Weapons - Harpoon, Stinger, Sidewinder, Sidearm, AMRAAM, Penguin, and Hellfire/TOW missiles, as well as 127mm Zuni and 70mm FFAR rockets
The only specifics I saw mentioned were up to 6 Sidewinders in a CAP roll (presumably 2 on the wingtips and then 4 under the wings on twin launchers). They mentioned it would only carry 2 Harpoons/Penguins so I figure that there are only two under wing pylons that could be extrapolated for the other munitions.

Sensors - AN/APG-65. There's another concept photo that looks like it has a retractable EO/IR sensor ball under the belly.

Performance goals specified for the Sea Apache by the Navy include a 200nm mission radius, and a four hour endurance on station. Also includes a probe for aerial refueling.

The campaign-based scenario I am making will involve with homeland security forces, especially China and United States. Could you add the Infantry Platoon for Armed Police and National Guard?

Something that involved with sudden, asymmetrical insurgency strikes against player's bases with armed mobs and rebels, but they don't have machine guns, as DB3000 only have for infantry units. So I also suggest to add rifle-based weapons too:

Weapons:
#new - 5.45mm Rifle Burst (3 rnds)
#new - 5.56mm Rifle Burst (3 rnds)
#new - 5.8mm Rifle Burst (3 rnds)
#new - 5.8mm Sniper Shot (Single)
#new - 7.62mm Rifle Burst (3 rnds)
#new - 7.62mm Sniper Shot (Single)
#new - 12.7mm Sniper Shot (Single)
#new - 12GA Shotgun Buckshot (Single)
#new - 12GA Shotgun Birdshot (Single)
#new - 12GA Shotgun Slug (Single)
#new - Incendiary (Portable Ordinance), Fire
#new - C4/Pipe Bomb (Portable Ordinance), Explosive
#new - Anti-personnel Land mine/IED (Portable Ordinance), Explosive
#new - Anti-tank Land mine/IED (Portable Ordinance), Explosive

Unlike MG Burst type weapons, Rifle Burst will make land battle lasts longer and less instantaneously lethal to exchange bullets. The Sniper Shot can immediately kill one 'unit' (weapon mount) with laser-like accuracy, but require long time to aim and fixed position before it fires. Higher caliber can shoot longer range and higher PoH.

Shotgun for infantry can be used as close-range mopping (instantly kill with Buckshot and very short range), defensive ranged attack (with Slug), and limited Anti-Drone (with Birdshot) abilities.

For Portable Ordinances, unit will stand close to the target to trigger fire/damage (immediately or takes time) without hurting itself, simulate the sabotage ability.

And here are some infantry units I suggested for my scenario:

China:
#new - Inf Plt (People's Armed Police) - China (Police Force)
#new - Inf Plt (People's Armed Police, Marksman) - China (Police Force), QBU-88
#new - Inf Sec (People's Armed Police, [7.62mm] Sniper) - China (Police Force)
#new - Inf Sec (People's Armed Police, [12.7mm] Sniper) - China (Police Force)
#new - Inf Sec (People's Armed Police, UAV Specialist) - China (Police Force)
#new - Inf Sec (Special Police Unit) - China (Police Force), 1982
#new - Inf Sec (Snow Leopard Commando) - China (Police Force), QBU-88, 2006
#new - Inf Sec (China SWAT Team) - China (Police Force), 2006
#new - Inf Sec (China SWAT Team, [7.62mm] Sniper) - China (Police Force), 2006
#new - Mech Inf Plt (ZSL-92/WZ551 [Unarmed] APC x 4) - China (Police Force), 1995
#new - Mech Inf Plt (ZSL-92/WZ551 [12.7mm MG] APC x 4) - China (Police Force), 1995
#new - Motor Inf Plt (ZFB-05 [Unarmed] IMV x 4) - China (Police Force), 2008
#new - Motor Inf Plt (ZFB-05 [7.62mm MG] IMV x 4) - China (Police Force), 2008
#new - Motor Inf Plt (ZFB-05 [12.7mm MG] IMV x 4) - China (Police Force), 2008

Marksman means with QBU-88 'Sniper Rifle', all Special Team except SWAT has that.

5.45mm rifles are also widely popular in civilian gun market, as favors for Rebels too.

There should be more vehicles/assets for Police Force type of units, but so far I could use with more variety of platoons and small arms.

5.45mm rifles are also widely popular in civilian gun market, as favors for Rebels too.

There should be more vehicles/assets for Police Force type of units, but so far I could use with more variety of platoons and small arms.

Sorry to say we're not really ready to take on something like this yet although its cool you want to model this. I would suggest just modifying an existing inf unit and using the clone button to copy your changes.

Thanks!

Mike

This looks like a painting. Can somebody verify what I'm seeing?

It is quite vivid with a lot of contrast. Turns out it was a cropped image.

Located the original larger photo as well as the official RAF source:

Official source confirms it was taken on 15th October 2014:

Added this loadout to UK Tornadoes.

No worry, this may take time to rename and add mounts from current infs, but I am cool.

DB3000 have AR-1, but no AR-2 mini-AGM.

http://www.defencetalk.com/china-unveils-new-mini-missile-targets-foreign-sales-69011/

quote:

Weighing about 20 kg and carrying a 5 kg warhead, the AR-2 has a maximum range of 8 km and a top speed of 735 km/h, the missile's designers told China Daily.

Jane's reported at the time that the CH-5 displayed at the exhibition featured a quad-pack of 20 kg-class AR-2 SAL guided anti-armour missiles on the inboard pylon

Added missile, weapons records and loadouts to Chinese UAV, will wait on UAE, Saudi etc until see pictures

Pterodactylus-II UAV also has completed its maiden flight. The first customer is probably Saudi Arabia or the UAE, who have placed "a huge order" on that drone. The AR-2 would probably be this drone's mainstay weapon due to its increased payload.

Sea Skua will go out of service at the end of March 2017, coincident with the retirement of the Lynx HMA.8 from RN service.

http://www.janes.com/article/68338/rn-completes-last-sea-skua-high-seas-firing

Added out of service date for Lynx HAS.8 to 2018. No Skua loadouts for Wildcats so think we're good.

Can you add a building (small) that is hardened? Mounts/sensors could then be added to these to simulate these structures.

We have hardened bunkers and if you look under North Korea we have HARTS. I'll add an empty one next time but for now just swap the weapons and sensors.

Thanks

Mike

Hardened Surface Ammo shelters would work great. Just Add mounts/sensors.

MMW-radar equipped Z-19 finally in service.

We have seen prototypes before, but this one has an "LHXXXX" tailnumber, which indicates it is in active service with an army aviation regiment.

Need more info on radar. Likely Longbow copy?

No information about the range, but the capabilities include SAR, ISAR, Doppler Beam Sharpening. And it is used for fire-control to guide precision missiles.
The radar is an AESA. And the text also says it is a two-faced AESA

Placard also says that it is capable of "long range surface/ground search".

EDIT:

It seems that the Longbow Radar looks like this:

So, I'd say not a copy.
Though indeed similiar in function.

I wonder if the Chinese MMW radar has better range or something...

The APG-78 isn't just a radar for helicopter itself, it has intergraded with Link-16 for provide some targeting solutions to nearby weapon systems.

The Chinese Z-19 has FCR first instead of the Z-10, I think that is because it is just a light-armed recon helicopter, the data-linked radar will help Z-10 and other ground units for guided missile striking, without exposing all of them because of the emission.

I think AESA is expected, given the fact that most of the west-based Army Conveys are usually installed with jammers. But I wouldn't expect much of superiority compare to APG-78, since it's powered by much weaker engines.

One of the reason why the Z-19 has the MMW radar is because the Z-9 had it first. Z-19 is based on the Z-9. The Z-10 will get MMW radar capability somewhere later, but for now, the Z-19 is the more mature platform.

And indeed, China still has to show a MMW-guided ATGM to go with the MMW radar that would enable true F&F capability. But I dont think that China would accept a Longbow-styled radar without the datalinking capability.

Myanmar Naval vessels. Help please?

I am steadily working through the images for the Myanmar vessels and will submit post in due course, interesting and a lot of mis-information.

Looks like Myanmar does have SA-24's Igla-S for information.

Has anyone got any idea of what the sensors are on either side of the bridge or the radar fit please?

This is F-772 from a September 2016 Facebook post and the "Igla" launcher has been removed and the 76mm has a new faceted cupola.

Regards and thanks

Whilst looking at some Indian Ocean scenarios I found that the Myanmar Navy has some fairly recent, but significant units missing from the DB.
Some of the missing units are Chinese imports and therefore easily added, however Myanmar has produced an number of indigenous missile armed frigate & corvette units.
Many of these are well armed and include stealth features.

I've included some links but still looking for further info.
Note: The Shipbucket links- Not sure on the source of this guys info but he seems to have done his homework and line drawings included.
His list of sensors/weapons etc seem to match other sources I've found scattered around

Apart from their own indigenous shipbuilding program & adding Chinese ASM's to just about anything that floats, Myanmar has been seeking (or at least talking about) purchasing submarines, but as far as I know there isn't anything currently in the pipeline.

Not only do they have the weapons available they've been practising using them (OTHT ASM)

http://hlaoo1980.blogspot.co.uk/2014/03/light-frigate-anawyahtar-771-test-fired.html
http://hlaoo1980.blogspot.co.uk/2014/04/burma-navys-combined-fleet-exercise-sea.html

Given the weapons and the geographic region (China's 'string of pearls') I think these are worth adding at some point (of course I'd say that as I'm building a scenario that can use them )

Added most of these. Decided to go with both SA-N-5 mounts and DPRK SA-16 Sextuplet mounts. Very little is known about all of these platforms but did my best. Will continue to update as more info becomes available.

So I noticed this recently after reading and finishing the book Running Critical and looking at CMANO. The maximum depth of the 688s is off. While the maximum depth of the 688s in CMANO is addressed as up to... 1478 feet or so (I think?), in reality because of the compromises that had to be done to give it the speed it needed, it could only go down to 950 feet. Here is the source from the book in question:

“Moorer's deputy charged the panel members with justifying the “total employment” of a high speed submarine in the U.S. fleet and demonstrating in as many ways as possible how vital high speed was to every aspect of a submarine's mission. The members, however, soon made the disturbing discovery that Johnny Foster was right. Rickover's high-speed prototype was going to have trouble breaking thirty knots – even with its increased horsepower – because it would have ot be a much heavier submarine to accommodate the larger propulsion plant. The S6G reactor compartment weighed in at 1,050 tons compared to the 650-ton compartment in the current fleet. That was a lot of extra weight, and the ship was going to be sixty feet longer to balance out the weight in the engine room. The first big task of the panel was to look for excess baggage they could cut out of the ship to make her lighter. They considered taking out the auxiliary diesel and the extra air-conditioning unit Rickover had insisted on carrying over the years, but Rickover sent word that these back-ups systems were not negotiable.

“That left only one place where they could get the kind of weight reduction they needed: the hull itself.

“And so a panel of seven submarine commanders made the fundamental and fateful compromise that would haunt the 688 class until the end of the century. They gave up what U.S. submarines had had since 1961 – the ability to dive to thirteen hundred feet, the ability to run silent below the deep thermal cline where sonar beams could not penetrate and to head for the bottom to let the ocean absorb the impact of an enemy weapon.

“By shaving the thickness of the hull, the panel members got most of the weight savings they were after, but they substantially narrowed the band of ocean in which the submarine could operate – to no deeper than nine hundred and fifty feet. It was less than three times the length of the submarine. Not a lot of ocean to work with, and in the holy trinity of speed, stealth, and depth, the submarine commanders had sacrificed one important attribute to acquire another.”-Tyler, Patrick. Running Critical: The Silent War, Rickover, and General Dynamics. p65-66
