I too have found early detection and coming out of the blue to be key in CV battles.

I think some of PzB's achievements were pretty epic.

My opponent Viberpol and I began our scenario 2 campaign about a month after AE was published. How long ago was that? We currently have played over 1300 turns and are in July of 1945. So far I have taken back most of China and invaded Korea, but not the Philippines or much of the DEI except the oil centers. Hardly have touched any strategic targets in Japan (soon to change). He still has a vicious air force, about half a dozen carriers, most of his BBs and a handful of CA-CLs. If you would have told me 15 years ago that I would play a single game for four years with a guy (now good friend) who lives in Poland, I would have told you that you were just a crazy fool. Pretty significant if you ask me.

Does losing 5 CA's to Dorniers count as epic? Still very early '42 .... opportunity to lose planty more.

Was this a mod in which the Dutch got Do-217s with remote controlled missiles?

Bill

That would be the one. Hit rates of 75%. And I'm pretty sure that the pilot and leader stats are 99 across the board too.

In my first PBEM I had no idea what I was doing and sailed my entire KB in early 42 all of the way to Tahiti and beyond to engage the US fleet. After my opponent had to stop due to health issues he sent the password and there were literally hundreds of ships moving along the map edge within a day's sail of the KB and the turn the game quit I had sent a CS cruiser TF to check it out.

I shudder now to think of the fuel used and vulnerability achieved by putting the KB way out there.

I think, as the Allies, that would have also given me health issues.

In times of old WITP PBEM I pretty much managed to wipe out KB in two carrier battles near Solomons following closely one after another:
1. Lost Saratoga, but did some damage to Jap carriers and planes
2. Returned to Noumea, refuelled, replenished, refilled squadrons, joined RN carriers and moved out again
3. Weather and surprise caused Jap launching no strike
4. In the following three days seas around Solomons were strewn with bodies of poor Japanese sailors, carnage was total, I doubt anything larger than DD escaped ...

I met Mogami about 8 years ago and have seen him off and on since. I just saw that he finally retired from the military. I have a phone number and will try to contact him later. I'd love to get him back here. Good guy!

+1

I met him at the Origins conference in 2005 -- I was attending the National Model Railroad Convention in Cincinnati and spent the one day driving up to Columbus. Definitely a good guy, and a good poster as well. Would love to have him back on the forum!

In one of my first PBEM games I lost entire KB in 1942 without allies loosing a single carrier. I think that's an achievement.

Captured Tokyo and about 80 percent of japan by 1.1.1945.

Probably not a big deal but it was my first vs. human campaign game.
