Now at the foot of the Urals Mountains, Guderian wastes no time in smashing through the first defence line, and crossing the Ufa river.

Stavka once again orders a retreat. Perm will have to withstand a siege. The line cannot be held here.

Over England there is a huge air battle but remarkably not one air unit is destroyed. Unfortunately for London the new Italian Piaggios get through

For some time there has been a partisan in Moscow. It has taken the Germans some time to assemble a spare HQ and some units to deal with the problem. Finally they arrive and re-take the former Soviet capitol.

Von Bock launches a somewhat risky attack at Ashqabad. Sure enough, the defenders are ready for him. It is a slaughter.

As Jul/Aug 1942 comes to an end, the Japanese are at the shores of Lake Baikal whilst the Germans are at the Urals. The two forces can be seen on one screen at zoom level 2 now!

I might add that US production is still higher, at 54.
Here are the losses for Jul/Aug 1942:

The Axis get the initiative in the first impulse of Sep/Oct 1942 and decide to send out the fleets. Here's a screenshot after movement, showing all of the sea areas which have Axis convoys and ships in them.

The RN is surprised in the North Sea by a task force led by Tirpitz. Unfortunately for the Germans the Courageous is only damaged.

The Allies send out their fleets to counter the Axis moves, and there are seven sea areas in which battles could occur.

It was at this point that a nasty bug (since fixed) was affecting the game, and after a number of attempts I kind of lost track of what was what. So the next screen shot may or may not be what actually ended up happening.
Nonetheless there were a lot of air battles and both sides lost a few carrier aircraft.

The end result that definitely did happen (the game was crashing just after the AA phase), was that the USS Wasp was hit by torpedo bombers. The Japanese made the decision to hit the weakest US carrier - which turned out to be wise, as any other carrier would have survived the hit.

In the North Atlantic the U-boat buildup is beginning to have an effect. Up until now the U-boats have been more of a nuisance than anything. But now there are six and they have found the Allied convoys. For some reason I didn't take a screenshot of the result, but if I recall correctly the U-boats destroyed six convoys and aborted three others. They didn't find them a second round.

In the North Sea the Allies find the German fleet and go for a surface battle.
KMS Blucher is sunk. The constant use of the Kriegsmarine is beginning to take its toll.

In the Western Med the RN sends in a small carrier battle group to hunt down the Italian supply lines.
Instead they find the Trieste escorting troops for North Africa. But the Sparvieros also find them

Over England the RAF is getting hammered on a regular basis, although fortunately for them the bombers are often failing to hit any strategic targets.

In East Africa the Alcione wing has arrived, and quickly makes its presence felt. Despite being only a '3' rating, this unit is amongst the most devastating of the game, it seems to hit almost every time.
