Fiji

It looks like he changed his landing zone from Suva to Fiji. We have 1 US Art Bat, 1 NZ Base Force and 1 NZ Inf Bde here to hold him behind Level 3 Forts. We have 3 US Art Bat and 1 Mar Inf Reg in route to reinforce from Suva. This will leave one Mar Par Bat, 1 MAG, 1 RNZAF Base Force and 1 Base Group to hold the fort.

I don't think he has enough in this wave. I have all three US Carriers 99 hexes away and in route and we will engage from the South under LBA is he sticks around. By the time we get here he will be further depleted unless he goes home. All told he has around 80 fighters and 140 bombers with his fleet and I have just under 270 on my three carriers. Once the carriers arrive I should have the ability to resupply at will.

There are 25 P-39's on Suva and 15 in the pool. There are 25 P-40E's in Noumea ready to fly in and 25 in the pool. There are 50 P-39s on Pago Pago. There are 9(4) NZ Vincent I's with orders to naval bomb until the die with 17 in the pool and another 9(4) squadron ready to fly in next turn.

Should I bring in the A-24's from Brisbane? They are not trained higher then the 40's for Naval bombing and would east up my 17K of supply faster?

Nadi Overview

Seems he threw everything at me this turn to see if he could break me here and failed. Not sure if he will reinforce with additional units or fall back. I am weak in Suva with one Mar Para Bat and just second line troops but I think I can hold for the 8 - 10 days until my CV's arrive to try and break the blockade. It looks like he has started to rotate his CV's from the KB back to Truck to replenish airframes/rearm.

Between Christmas Island and this I am slowing grinding down his elite pilots. The fact he had to throw the KB air units into ground support is a good sign (I think for me).

AirGriff to Rook749

........The Japanese phrase of the day: What a mess. Had to take a stab at Nadi to see what would happen. I should inform you that the accommodations there are positively crawling with vicious little critters everywhere.

Rook to AirGriff

........Per your request I am going to send some exterminators to the island however the reports I have from on-site representatives with the snazzy outfits (moonlighting as wait staff) is that that the issues are the sea monsters just off the coast. My head waiter one Chesty Puller is that its a "target rich" environment off the coast.

Singapore

Seems the final battle is starting. So did I do well or not? I have every Indian unit other than the 11th Inf Division upgraded to the 1942 Inf Inf Squads. Percival, the commander of the III Indian Corps and both Indian Inf Division were also replaced. I assume this lead to the + leader bonus.

From what I seem he needs to bring more troops but I could be wrong.

Fiji

Seems like the battle of Fiji is almost over and he is going to withdraw. I am going to hit Christmas Island with my CVs and then have them take the long way back to NZ to hide there just in case. He hit me with the CVs for a small ground strike raid today and we got the better of him again in the air.

Wake

As my next turn is sent in and I sit in the hotel room waiting on either the turn or the outcome of my sons soccer game I will post some images and thoughts from around the globe. As always comment away!

While it put the Lady Lex out of action for 80 days (60 days left ), cost me two CA's,one CL and three DD's I still hold Wake. We now have added level 2-77 forts, a second Mar Def Art unit and an US Army Inf Batt. Plus some of the Lexington's aircraft are stuck as they don't have the range to reach Midway and then fly to Pearl. The Lady Lex will pick these back up in 70 days or so if we still hold the island.

At this point I intend to send one of the Coastal AA units out to bring the island just under the stacking limit of 6K. It will be one that withdraws out of theater so its loss if he comes back will not matter at all other then for a couple of victory points.

If I can hold Wake and get the forts up to Level 6 I will look at expanding the airfield to the max level of 6, which will bring Marcus within reach of the B-24's.. In 1943 I feel this island is secure, I will bring up fighters, change out the combat units for air support and use this as a base to make a quick dash to Marcus Island when the KB is busy elsewhere. As Wake allows me to scout and shield an advance to the Marianas it can be very useful. Also Marcus Island will go to a Level 4 Airfield and brings the B-24's within range for the Marianas.

I will start prepping either the 24th or 25th Inf Division for this right away, along with a combat Eng Bat, 1 ART Bat and 1 Arm Bat. If I go the route to hold it in 1943 I will bring in PT Boats, 1 ACM and 150 mines but all my PT boats are currently busy in the Line Islands.

Line Islands
As you will see below we are going to run a CV strike and a bombardment at Christmas Island this turn. I suspect there are mines in the area but we want to start removing them and make sure he can't dig in or bring in any land based air.

After this the CV's will drop off his radar heading east, swing south and then base out of New Zealand for a time. The BB'sa are based out of Palmyra which has two AE's in port for resupply.

Mess Around Fiji

Nothing has changed for land units in the area from what was noted a few turns ago. We have a base force and Mar Def Art unit loading at Pago Pago to reinforce Savii, as I decided if I lost Fiji or if I needed to project more air power in the area a second base two hexes west and two hexes north of Pago Pago could be useful.

I will be getting the anything I can, once the KB is not on the radar into Tanna, Efate and Lugnaville. It looks like it will be not that much as all I have is one Cont Reg and two Mar Raider Bats, one Mar Para Bat and one Art Bat ready right now. I have a base group in route but nothing else currently flowing to the area. I have two additional Mar Raider Bats and one US Army Inf Bat in San Diego that will be loaded ASAP but its a long run around the edge of the map away from Christmas Island. I don't want to deploy the Mar Para Bat where it will be lost as I only have 4 Squads for replacement in the pools and only build three a month. I don't want to put more than one Mar Raider Bat where I know it will be lost as I only have eight squads in the pool and only build three per month. I just need to be smart where I put them thinking of putting on Mar Raider all the way at Lugnaville, with the Art Bat and Const Reg and then the second Mar Raider Bat at the southern most island of Tanna and hoping for the best.

Noumea and Koumac are still held with the same forces as noted above but the last two infantry battalions from the 8th Australian Infantry Division will land at Noumea in the next fifteen days. Once these arrive all of the Commando companies will hold Koumac and then fall back to Noumea if he lands on the north of the island in force.

I really need more infantry ground units but they don't start to arrive for another 20 days. I am looking at a window of 40 to 80 days before I can shore up my lines from Horn Island to Fiji. The good news is he still needs to clean out Rabaul, Port Moresby, Horn Island, Java, Singapore, Clark Field and Bataan all in that same window.

KB - Sited

It appears that the KB has not made port to resupply, think it is sweeping the area around Port Morsby and Rabaul before it resupplies/repairs at Truk. I suspect he will replace it with the Mini-KB take Port Morsby, Horn Island and Rabual. Then try to push south.

After thinking on it all night I have decided to pull the the Constr Reg, one US Army Art and the 8th Marine Rgt and land them at Lugaville. The 8th will be replaced by all three of the Mar Raider Bat. I simply can't risk the Raider Bats as the replacement levels for these units are too low, I have enough Marine replacements to rebuild the base infantry regiment if this really go south.

Mini-KB?? (could be part of KB)
What we have here is part of the KB or the Mini-KB covering the landing at Rabaul and Tulagi. He hit both the same day . Looks like he is going to try and dash forward before we get close to the end to his amphibious bonus....

It will take at least another 10 - 15 days to get anything into Luganville.....

Reading an AAR with lots and lots of Combat Reports (CR) will not get you many viewers and even less comments. They are just to dry and boring after some time, IMO. Suggest you just post the important part of a CR and add your own comments to it. For me, I want to see where your mind is over a particular battle, even if it is just a sub vs 2 DDs.

Luganville - If you re-enforcing there, are you prepared for them to be destroyed there?? They will be nothing more than a speed bump. However, if you have follow up forces going to build up New Caledonia, then it may make sense.

Pearl Ship Yard
Here is the current status of this ship yard at Pearl. Most of the damage was from the December 7th attack or the battle for the Line Islands. The Pennsylvania and the Tennessee are completing upgrades. I have the Idaho in reserve and the Warspite, Mississippi, Colorado and New Mexico in the "US 1st Bat Div" bombarding Christmas Island. My goal is to have two surface taffys each with four of the slower US BB's with the rest held in reserve to replace damaged/upgrading units and to use in amphibious taffys.

The Nevada will be moved to Bremerton when the system damage clears as she by far has the most major damage. If I need or think I will need yard space the next badly damage one will then head to San Fransisco to complete repair.

Yea I have been going back and forth on it in my head and I think I will drop them.

Yes, I am going to write off the 8th Marine Regiment, the US Art Bat and the construction engineering unit. If I hold great if not oh well it will by me some time and maybe keep him from driving south. I was looking at the Mar Raider Units or the Mar Para Bat as these could get there is less than five days but the replacement pools for these units make it a really bad idea.

I want him to focus on this area as much as possible as I want to take the Christmas Islands back in May of '42. If I can pull more of his forces or the KB into this area it will be harder for him to contest the Line Islands.

The Line Islands

Palmyra is at Port 2(2)-03%, Air- 2(0)-02% & Fort-2(6). Will expand and use this as a Fighter base to sweep Christmas should this become necessary. There are 12 PT boats, two ACMs and 150 mines at the base. There are 84 Fighters protecting the area and two AE's to resupply the US 1st Bat Div as it bombards Christmas Island, over and over.

Fanning is at Port 1(0)-05%, Air- 0(3)-25% & Fort-2(6). Will expand and use this as a B-17/B-24 base to bomb Christmas should this become necessary and/or for training. There are two Combat Eng Bats on the Island working to expand it ASAP. As we expand we will add 150 mines to the 12 PT boats to present to prevent any bombardment task forces from hitting the heavy bombers.

We are looking at landing in May of '42 at Christmas Island. We have allocated one US Inf Division, 2 Combat Eng Bats and 2 US Art Bats for the job. We may have a second inf division to send as well if we need it.

If the KB comes looking for a fight, we will have the ability to project large numbers of fighters from both Islands and add some number of marine dive bombers to the American Carriers. With plenty of scouting depth, I can't ask for a better place to fight in 1942 if the KB comes out.

Dutch Surface Forces

The cat and mouse games continues in the NEI. A week ago the Mini-KB was brought in to cover the landings at Palembang and prevent Force Z or any air bombing of the oil fields. Having been ready for this I had the area overrun with submarines, so he countered with a large ASW commitment. While my subs failed to hit the Mini-KB or slow the supplies into the area I was able to slip in this surface force to do some damage.

This should take four SC's out of the game for later.

KB
It looks like the KB is heading back to Truck to finally rearm and repair after grabbing the area of over the last two turns. I expect it will be in port for at least 14 days as it will need a lot of aircraft replacements.

Follow the KB -

1. Hit's Peal on December 7th to start the war.
2. Moved to Wake to hunt my CV in the area.
3. Moved to Turk (assumed) but was off the grid for 10 days.
4. Moved to Christmas Island to support taking it and failed.
5. Moved to support the landing at Canton.
6. Moved back to Christmas Island to support the landings that took the area.
7. Split with some of it at Christmas and some of it going to Wake to hit the Lexington.
8. Reformed at Christmas and smashed more stuff heading to the area.
9. Moved to Bomb Pago Pago
10. Moved to Support the Landing in Fiji that failed.
11. Moved West to Port Moresby and then to the Rabaul/Tulagi Area to support the landings.

I assume it met with some AE's at Canton and at Shortlandss that he took for resupply but I am not 100% certain of this. I know he had an AE at Christmas Island he used to supply but it is gone now.

Air Losses for the Empire or Japan
Can anyone give me any perspective on the overall losses? Are they running higher that I should expect? I have been able to draw him into fighters with my P-39s and P-40's over the Line Islands, Fiji and Samoa.

Looks to me that you are doing very well. Usually the overall losses at this stage are in the Empire's
favour, not the Allies. You have done very well against his Kates and Vals. Most of the losses were A2A and Flak, so the pilots
were probably lost to him as well. The graphic just shows the Japanese side - sometimes I like to see the overall loss rankings
of the Allies interspersed with the IJ losses so I can compare DBs to DBs, LBs to LBs and fighters to fighters. If your DB losses
are significantly more than his, that would change the interpretation of the Val losses.

Aircraft Pools
While my pools are great given my losses of P-40E's and P-39D's they are too bad at least I have some reserve. Most fighter units in the Line Islands, Samoa and Fiji are at full strenght. The one at Peal, well they have been picked bear.
